Just watched the rest of the iJustine video…. Hadn’t seen they did all that video work on the base 14. I’ve definitely overspecced my order for relatively light indesign/photoshop/illustrator.

How does one go about cancelling a BTO? Mine is preparing to ship and the option isn’t there at the moment.

Trip to Costco might be on the cards today.

Yes this is normal. won’t get any updates until it gets to the UK. Same thing happened to my series 7 that came via dhl from china.
This is the most upsetting thing I've read today.

Don't suppose you remember how long the gap between China and UK was?

On my way to pick up my base config 16" from my local apple store?. Might have to pick up some airpods whilst I'm there. The missus is going to kill me !

My missus is away visiting her parents as it's school half term. A fine opportunity for stealth tech upgrades that will go unnoticed :) - I'm picking up my 14-inch M1 Pro from the Apple store this afternoon. I may indulge myself in more when I'm there. Hurrah

I'm enjoying reading these posts. I haven't ordered yet because I'm waiting to find out what the base 14" is like and whether the 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD are going to be OK for video editing, Affinity Photo and Publisher kinds of tasks. I also do web and app development so although I could probably get away with an Air, the Pro is more my kind of beast with the extras (excellent display, camera and ports). Will be interested to see how an M1(Pro) machine compares to my iMac Pro(!)

I'm looking to replace my 2013 13" MacBook Pro (yes, 2013). The 8GB RAM on that has never been much of a problem - it's the 128GB SSD that has caused me the most issues. I haven't been able to update the OS for years because of lack of space, and that's even after removing everything I can think of.

I'd be interested to know from someone who gets the base spec of the new 14" how much free SSD you have out of the box and whether after initial use you regret not beefing up either the RAM, SSD or processor cores (bearing in mind this is a second machine and not the main workhorse).

DPD delivering to my (utterly chaotic) cornershop by about 17:30 today. first time I've done a collection point pickup with DPD but am facilitating all day so can't open the door - fingers crossed they don't play football with it or lose it out the back... Yesterday they sold my wife a tub of cream cheese that was 3 weeks past its use by...

I'm afraid that once your order goes to Preparing to Ship it is too late to cancel. Your only option is to send it back once it's delivered.

How does time machine work ? Will it transfer all apps and settings to the new machine ? I can’t get my head around how that works on a Mac as if I did a straight copy on PC between disks the registry would probably not work, all sorts of drivers would try refreshing themselves / error.

Also, should I upgrade my Mac mini to the same OS version as the new one before taking the time machine backup ?

Thanks.

Believe it or not, it just works!!!
Like backing up to iCloud for the iPhone/iPad.
You can restore from Time Machine in two ways, one is just restore the device as a whole, or two restored documents and applications and settings and have granular control over what you want restoring.

I think you can also do a direct Mac to Mac transfer. If I had another USB ethernet then I would probably do that unless you can do USB-C to USB-C between devices - anyone know if that is possible?

I think you'll be fine for 16GB RAM, however 512GB may be cutting it a tad short. Coming from a 2017 MBP that has 128GB, I went for the maxed out version of the M1 Pro and realised it came with 1TB SSD. And with Unidays, managed to get it for £2138.

Cancelled my 16' max and just ordered for collection today the base spec, seems like Max is total overkill and I'll probably upgrade in 1-2y if gaming gets better otherwise hoping it last longer.

Grrr DH Hell - Website says 'Out for Delivery', App says still at depot.

God I hate DH Hell. App has now updated;

Why Apple Why? - My iPhone 13 shipped via DPD, I could go in and book a slot for 10am delivery. DH Hell does not give you the option to book a slot, so now I have to wait all day after taking the day off.
