For how long did your order stayed in "preparing to ship"/"preparing for dispatch" state?

I suspect this is just the fact its the weekend and nothing really happens over the weekend. UPS has set the expectation of Monday for delivery, which for me is well within the Apple estimated delivery from point of order. I just need to stop being impatient and wait one more day. Panic will set in if tomorrow is not the day!

Strange, I swear I checked the tracking yesterday and it still said Tamworth, even though apparently it’s been at my local depot since 6.15 AM yesterday?!
Could have gone there during the day to see if they allowed collection…

It takes me about 1:20 to drive to Tamworth, I could have gone up and down at least 15 times now in the time it’s taken UPS to update anything… 🤦🏽‍♂️

They are simply not moving them over the week-end. Express Saver is non-weekend delivery tier.

Hopefully they don't f***k up tomorrow or I'll drive to the depot I swear.

Just less than a day! Can you believe that?

After a couple of days living with this new machine I can safely say that I absolutely love it. Everything about it is brilliant, this is the update I've been waiting on for so long.

As I've mentioned a few times my previous mbp lasted me 8 years. I considered upgrading quite often over that time, but I didn't much like the touchbar or lack of magsafe so I'd always decide to wait a little while longer for the next major design update. That wait was getting a little trying tbh but now my patience has been hugely rewarded, I'm very pleased indeed.

Same, can't wait for mine to arrive this week.

In hindsight it seems insane that I've made my current rMBP last 8 years, but I did buy and start renovating a house a couple of years ago which obliterated any budget for an upgrade. I'm glad I rode out the wilderness years, especially without Magsafe. That's saved my MacBook multiple times this week, never mind anything else...

Yeah they’ll move tonight and be at the local depot in the morning

Did you order the 14” MBP? @Bea220 I remember you were fawning over the idea a good while back.
Hi @Apple_Robert 👋🏻

I did! Got my beauty on Tuesday! Just went to the Apple store yesterday because after all of this talk of silver vs space Gray I got all mixed up and confused… but after comparing them I’ve decided I’m glad i went with SG.

I also wound up regretting not getting a terabyte of storage and the faster charger so I’m still on the fence if returning it and having my friends friend get me a discount. I’d just have to wait until December….

If you already have regret about the storage, I would definitely return and go with the 1TB if that makes you happy. Glad to read you are happy with the new toys. :D Your comment about the friends friend discount reminded me of this movie…

“Um, he’s sick. My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw Ferris pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.”

Still loving my set up!!

One issue I have now though is I cannot get Apple Pay to work on my new Mac!!

I did a migration assistant transfer and when I open Apple Pay it shows my cards saying I need to input my CVV (fair enough)

when I do that it just says ' Cannot add card" I have tried re adding them but it just says the same.... There is no option for me to remove them either. It is like it knows they are there but they haven't transferred properly or something.

Well done for holding off the stupid 2016 re-design. It must have been tough.

I would have tried as well if I had decent mac. Unfortunately at the time I was just coming out of Gaming PC stint. So coming back to MacOS my only option was the dreaded Touch Bar mac. I have disliked it since day one, and yet, can't stay without MacOS. Luckily I can do most of my work docked and hooked to a monitor & keyboard. Otherwise I am pretty sure I would have rage-quitted over the butterfly keyboard.

You can't even understand how happy am I about this re-design. When you live and breathe MacOS all day like me, you tend to care a lot about the machine you are working on. This is a big comeback for Apple.

Performance is a bit of a jump from my old machines (2 entries for each laptop as I tested both on battery and connected to/powered by my monitor).
Screenshot 2021-10-31 at 14.04.08.png

It is an even bigger jump for compute (GPU) - my iMac could not even run the test!

Currently moving my photos over, then looking forward to trying out Lightroom later.

I didn't expect Sharjah to be honest. Delivery estimate at the time of order was 8th-11th November, now it shows 2nd November on the Apple website while UPS just says "Check back tomorrow for an updated delivery date".

I went down the clean install route and was able to add cards by just confirming the cvv and 2fa

How are you finding it @Jinjin ?

Not put it through any serious strain yet, been sorting out my desktop and docs in iCloud before I sync it to the new one.

The weight increase is noticeable but not significant, but the whole things just feels like a solid, industrial design perfect for a pro machine. The build quality is stunning and really happy with the silver after years of space grey. Even the MagSafe matches

My first experience with an M series MacBook and just the basics are instantaneous, apps open on a click, just smooth as anything. I know that the previous M1 was the same but so-long Intel!!

I’m happy with the 10/16/16/1TB and will send back the max. It’s not necessary for me and I can’t see this machine not handling anything I chuck at it in tue next 4-5 years. The BTO was a massive FOMO purchase and trying to order the ‘best’ spec asap when orders opened. The reviews I’ve seen really keep me in the pro camp and I’m happy with that now. The UPS delays have saved me £800 which I’ll put towards an UltraWide screen.

Talking of the screen…It is seriously impressed with the mini led. The blacks are noticeable blacker than any of the previous lcd panels and closer to that OLED look to my eyes than ever before. I was just using some Apple TV shows as a reference and it looked gorgeous. The sound too was deep and immersive..
Amazing from this small machine.

The notch is already out of mind, just love the extra real estate on the screen and this tiny bezels. Front facing camera is great to improved and acceptable for video calls.. do think there’s some significant improvements which could be made but probably not needed for laptop.

Wish they had the illuminated Touch ID ring but that works perfectly, usually though have unlock with Apple Watch on anyway.

Will get it ‘work ready’ in the coming days now and give it a proper workout.

I feel very much the same coming from a Windows desktop. M1 is pretty awesome.

I am also thinking of exchanging my Max 64GB 2TB model for the one you went for in the end. FOMO it was indeed.

Agree with everything you've said. The build quality is probably my favourite thing after the performance. It just feels far sturdier and ready to do work than the previous generation.

One setting I've changed related to the notch which I really recommend if you ever use apps in fullscreen is the attached screenshot. Basically I love how the menu bar at the top is pure black so the notch is hidden, but by default, the menu bar disappears unless you mouse over it. Unchecking this settings keeps it shown all the time. Looks great imo.

I couldn't disagree with any of that. It is a stunning piece of kit especially if you are transitioning directly from Intel. The screen, processing speed and build quality are superb.

Having reflected on my purchase (I got the base / entry model last Tuesday) and having seen those brilliant photos of the silver that you posted yesterday I've decided to go for the 10/16/16/1TB in silver myself, especially as there is one that I can pick up tomorrow! The extra cores, double the storage, and the fast charging are worth the extra expense for me and strike the right balance. I've had Space Grey since 2015 so it's time now to return to the original MacBook Pro colour.
