We’re going away for the week today. Managed to convince the missus that waiting during the 10:30 - 14:30 delivery window was OK.

13:42 and still not here. Hope it makes the window. She’s starting to lose patience already…

Max had been returned :(

As how long it take for Apple to give me back my £700 of vouchers I used initially!

But going to bother with the palaver of trying to use them for the pro I paid in full for. Will let them burn a hole in my wallet until the new phones next year!

Yes, unfortunately the airport at Croydon closed a little while ago...

...1959 to be precise! 😂
True!! I did visit the place a while back, cool little airport.
Although maybe it’s reopened… Still could get my laptop delivered today by a Hawker Hurricane MkII 😃

Yup, same....

Got mine this morning. Love it!

That was quick!

Did you have to book an appointment to make the return? Were there any complications returning a web order to a store?

Just asking as I have to return my original order.

Nah no hassle at all. Just took the web order number, checked the serials and submitted. Got an email straight away.

Maybe as it was still in the original seal he didn’t look in the box

No appointment, just walked in and wait for someone to become free.. a few mins

Thanks, I'll get mine back to them tomorrow.

Loving the upgraded specs by the way and the silver, as you say, is gorgeous!

I returned a mac mini when I picked up the MBP and she took the lid off the box and thats it. There could have been a well wrapped brick and no power cord in the box for all she knew. I assume they have a link to your bank account/personal information so if there was any serious issue they would be able to get to you.

Thats one of the reasons you pay the "apple tax" though. Things like this.

I think the DHL delivery snake has died

god damn this machine is so damn quick! It was supplied with OS 12.0, so a quick clean install of 12.0.1 to get rid of pages, imovie etc, and now im starting to bring my old data across without a restore of backup as I want to keep it as clean as possible. cant wait to put it through its paces tomorrow during work!

Wow using this Mac is like entering in a supercar and feeling the jolt of ludicrous acceleration for the first time.

Quick reaction to the features:
  • keyboard: vastly improved but still not perfect
  • magsafe: connection doesn't seem as strong as I expected. The cable pulls out very easily
  • notch: what notch? With a black menu bar I forget is even there. Seriously!
  • menubar: not as large and invasive as I've seen online
  • weight: this is one of the things I was most concerned about. It feels as heavy as my 2017 MBP. But I still have to carry it in my backpack to see if there's any substantial difference
  • pro-motion: seems to work everywhere with 12.0.1
  • migration from Intel: the process could be largely smoothed out. It was tricky even after reading tons of guides and recommendations. Quite a pain to get it going through thunderbolt. Once all the knots were brushed away it took 30 minuntes
  • SD card: funnily enough I've used the reader immediately, to upload the photos attached to this post.
  • speed: I've only used Lightroom and Bridge (X86) to tweak the pictures attached. The Adobe Suite is insanely fast. I am updating to Adobe Silicon now and I don't know what to expect. Is faster even possible???
  • speakers: Much louder than previous iterations. Too bassy for my taste. I can see a lot of people enjoying them though. I can say I am happy with them just because with the extra base the start-up sound has never sounded better
  • fans: what fans? I've been uploading/downloading a bunch of stuff to sync this machine. As well as doing some light photo work. My intel machine would be already gasping for air. This baby is a terminator, oxygen is for plebs
  • design: looks chunky (and I love it), but doesn't feel chunky at all

You should also hide the serial number in macOS Monterey picture

so what a whirlwind the 2021 MacBook Pro release has been! From all the rumours, then last minute notch-gate talk and even the talk of promotion appearing.. to then watch the keynote and see Apple give it all to us.. and boy they didn't disappoint, ports, mini-led, mag-safe and smaller bezels were amazing but the heart of these machines is something else... they've taken what was groundbreaking with the M1 and released two stunning upgrades which do not disappoint.. its ticked the box of many Mac users after the last few years of frustration..

personally its been a rollercoaster! from not having a clue what I was going to buy when they were announced, to the panic of trying to check out the model I assumed was right for me with the App Store falling to bits.. then to go through the drama of missing the initial stock, to being bumped up delivery and then seeing UPS planes flat on their arse in South Korea!.. there's be plenty of drama this year... finally to come full circle and see the reviews and realise I've over-egged my order and settled on the machine that was perfect for me.. in gorgeous silver too!

the irony was that I could have not bothered with any pre-orders and just reserved one in store on the day of release and collected straight away.. I'd have had my Mac a week ago! 🤣
