Current £35 month customer = 3G Handset on new 18month - £99

New customer coming onto £35 month = 3G Handset on new 18month - £99

So, if you are a £35 a month customer you are not being rewarded at all because if you were a new customer coming off the street you would get the same price! Bit cheeky aye! How about £50 for us early adopters?

O2 are having a laugh if they think that this is any way to treat existing customers!

If you have to extend your contract by another 18 months then all the line rental you have paid until now should cover more than £100!!!!!

Its daylight robbery!

and with those prices you would be lucky to get £50 for the original iphone!

Can anyone see them changing their mind?? Doubt it!

How's this for a plan?

Get a new iPhone on PAYG as you go with 02. Unlock it.

Get another high end phone - say an N96 or E71 - on contract. Use the SIM in both.

Result: Win-win situation.

Thoughts?

i expect it will be £299 on PAYG - this is fantastic news, really really fantastic!

I just thought, what the HELL am i gonna do with my 'old' iPhone now? Who's gonna buy it?! If everyone knows that the new one is out in a few weeks...:(

Don't get too down.

It looks like the new model will require in store activation so nobody will be able to buy them without a contract and unlock them cheap.
Therefore the 1st Generation is still the only cheap unlockable iPhone out there.

There will be O2 PAYG but I would imagine the price will be quite high (£399 doesn't sound impossible) so you could maybe still get £200.

I got £250 mid way through the keynote...

Dont the contracts go
200,300
400,500
750,750
1000(unlimited to o2),1000?

In price order :p

Well, I'm thinking £99 for 8Gb and £150 for 16Gb, with 8Gb free on £45 and 16Gb free on £75? Infact how about this

£99 + £149
£49 + £99
Free + £49
Free + Free

That would make sense, and get people going for a better contract to save money, while actually making O2 and Apple money.

Also, O2 have the best service around here, Ive always been on them!

If I went up to the £45 tarriff to get an upgrade, will I have to stay there the entire 18 months of the contract or could I switch down after nine (normally O2 upgrades only require you to stay on that tariff for nine months)?

Phazer

it isn't daylight robbery...

c'mon..i'm a new customer.. tied in to my current contract... o2 ain't paying me a penny to change to them, and have a new iphone, i have to sort out my old contract myself...

so, you're lucky the ones with a current iphone contract, as you are getting off scot free of around 10 months of a contract..

Wohoooooooo!

so those not on o2 or want to keep their current deal

buy on pay as you go, activate in store, get home unlock and do what you want

so happy!

was thinking oh s**t i sold my iphone now im screwed!

exactly what I thought, anim8or, not too happy :(

Here's a thought...

You can downgrade your contract every couple of months am i correct?

Well what is stopping us from upgrading to the £45/month tariff then downgrading back to £35 once you have received the new 3G handset!

That would really stick it to the greedy ba****ds!!!

Yup. I'm going to get an N96 on T-mobile or 02 with the £35 contract but also get a PAYG iPhone 2.0 and unlock it so I can swap the SIM. That means I get two high end phones to play with!

what are you doing? making up tarrifs... the iphone has always had different iphone tarrifs, and they are continuing to be different, with the introduction of a low £30 a month tarriff..

the prices are announced, read back this thread...

What is to say that if we stay with our current model of phone that O2 wont charge £100 for the upgrade at the end of our contract then where is the deal!

you say lucky, I say not.

ok my heads in a mess with this:D:D:D:D
i have an iphone had it since nov 9, i want and will only upgrade to 16g
how much???????????????????

Even if it's £299, you still save up to £61 over a year if you were on the cheapest contract.

And even if you spend that much in top-ups, I think it's worth it not to have to pay a set fee each month, really. Especially for someone who doesn't use a phone much but wants an iPhone, or someone who doesn't have a secure income (like a teenager)

They ought to reduce the contract length of the £75 contract from 18 to 12 months.

thinking of the minimum total price

(£30 per month 18 months minimum)
8GB - £99 + £540 = £639
16GB - £159 + £540 = £699
(£35 per month 18 months minimum)
8GB - £99 + £630 = £729
16GB - £159 + £630 = £789
(£45 per month 18 months minimum)
8GB - £0 + £810 = £810
16GB - £59 + £810 = £869
(£75 per month 18 months minimum)
8GB - £0 + £1350 = £1350
16GB - £0 + £1350 = £1350

£159 then???
so there doing nothing for us who have already had the phone, nothing so why say they are???????

Just a little speculation, and what I would like to see...

Also, what's the going price of a like new 16Gb touch? Should be around £220 me thinks, which would nicely grab me the 16Gb iPhone and 2 months of the contract ^^

Well this has put me in a bit of a dilemma! What to do?! Before I decide I want the 3G iPhone I really want to actually see the thing, see if the new plastic back is in any way tacky and nasty. But as each day goes by, I take it my current iPhone is going to take a hit in terms of value?

Would have been nice of O2 to offer a free upgrade seeing as we were silly enough to pay £320 for the thing in the first place... :D Ah well, they've got their money to make I suppose.
