Im happy with paying £59 for the 16g as im on the £45.

How many iphones are now going to partners? my gf is getting mine for sure (she is happy to get it free).

lastly i will get the tom tom app and also i an over the moon about the outlook integration of the me.com stuff. i use it for work so i can integrate my phone fully into my life the way i was hoping i could.

If I went up to the £45 tarriff to get an upgrade, will I have to stay there the entire 18 months of the contract or could I switch down after nine (normally O2 upgrades only require you to stay on that tariff for nine months)?

When a new iphone is brought out you will get a similar option to what we have now. You will sign another contract extension to switch.

I don't know what people are getting so confused about.

Pretty much exactly the same for me baring I'm going from my current £35 contract to a £45 to get the 16GB at £59 with my old one going to the G/F.

ok my heads in a mess with this:D:D:D:D
i have an iphone had it since nov 9, i want and will only upgrade to 16g
how much???????????????????

Depends on which tariff you are on.

£35 - £159

£45 - £59

£75 - Free!

interesting that they offer the £75 tariff users the option to upgrade to either the 8 or 16 Gb model for the same price. Wonder how many will opt for the 8Gb upgrade?

and it does say on the O2 website that if you dont want 2 iphones you can give the other one to a friend etc etc and get them an iphone PAYG sim.

Just wondering what deals they will give to existing O2 customers and whether they will let them upgrade early too if they are non-existing iPhone customers. I pay for my parents contract and would be happy to switch numbers with them for an iPhone at £35 a month.

According to the O2 site you now get free access to BT Openzone hotspots aswell!

This would be incredible if this offer also includes BT FON ones :D

Don't get too down.

It looks like the new model will require in store activation so nobody will be able to buy them without a contract and unlock them cheap.
Therefore the 1st Generation is still the only cheap unlockable iPhone out there.

There will be O2 PAYG but I would imagine the price will be quite high (£399 doesn't sound impossible) so you could maybe still get £200.

I got £250 mid way through the keynote...

Good point :)
Although I dont think it'll be as easy to sell, most people will see 'old' instead of 'previous generation' and get cold feet methinks...and then theres the whole unlocking shenanigans...

Yes, but what I'm saying is that on any other O2 phone, if you get an upgrade and thus sign a new 18 month contract, you DO NOT have to stay on that particular tariff for the entire 18 months. You only have to stay on it for 9 months, then you can reduce down to a cheaper tarriff.

Hence, if the same pattern is followed someone like me on the £35 a month tariff at the moment could swap to the £45 one, get an upgrade for nothing and then swap back to the £35 (or indeed even the £30) tariff nine months from now for the remainder of my contract.

Assuming that was the case, doing the above is £10 cheaper than paying the upgrade price, and I'd get a bunch more minutes as well.

Ha, amazingly my current O2 contract (non-iPhone £35/m) expires right on July 11th.

I got a letter today offering a free upgrade or £100 credit on my next 2 bills.. though reading the details the upgrade may not apply to the 'latest' handset offers, darn it! I suppose the credit is the way to go... £59 for a 16gb iPhone aint too bad.

i'm sre all the people (including me) who sold their unlocked iphone are breathing a sigh of relief! thats confirmed - you will be able to buy an iphone without signing a contract instore. Obviously the unlocking part isn't confirmed, but hey - its a certain as it can be as 2.0 has already been unlocked!

depends if there are any conditions attached to the iphone pay and go tariff such as regular top ups.

i hope i can just use my current 02 pay and go arrangement which seems to give me a text and talk time allowance every month.

Looks like the UK has a new cottage industry... Selling unlocked 3G iPhones to the US :D

yes!!

Nope we keep it. Thats why we pay the same for the contract as new customers BUT because we are existing ones we get the phone earlier and first dibs apparently.

where does it say that.. i can't see it say that anywhere... its out on the 11th july to both new and existing customers..

Hey All,

About the confusion of where you can buy an iPhone it says on the O2 website you can buy online

Switching to O2 is easy and you can keep your existing number

Switching to iPhone is easy and we've a wide range of tariff options for iPhone available to suit all your needs. If you've already finished or nearing the end of your minimum term contract with another network provider, now is the right time to get the new 3G iPhone.

To purchase an iPhone with a Pay Monthly tariff you need to be over 18, pass a credit check and have a bank account for the monthly Direct Debit payments. You'll also need an email address you access regularly because your bills will be sent to you by email.

Keep your number

You can easily transfer your existing number to your new iPhone. Just contact your current network provider for a PAC code. Then let us know your PAC code when you purchase your iPhone in-store, or contact us online once you've received your new handset.

Your existing number will be transferred within two working days of us receiving the PAC code. We'll also give you a temporary number whilst you wait for your existing number to transfer so you can continue to make calls, send texts and surf the internet.

Where to buy?

You'll be able to purchase the iPhone online at o2.co.uk, in one or our high street stores or by calling O2. It will also be available at The Carphone Warehouse.

Register your interest

Just register your interest opposite and we'll drop you a line in early July to tell you what you need to do to be one of the first to get your hands on the new 3G iPhone.

Another point i wanted to bring up was, when people are asking could they change the simcards in the new 3G iPhone? well i assume the answer would be yes because if you have a look at the apple website and have a look at "What's in the box" it gives a Sim ejector tool.

In the box

iPhone 3G
Stereo Headset with mic
Dock Connector to USB Cable
USB Power Adapter
Documentation
Cleaning/polishing cloth
SIM ejector tool

Sorry if this is already posted.

I see what your saying. Best way to do it.

Shame the iPhone is still locked to O2. I was hoping for any network this time, as O2 are just awful (in my experience).
Bad enough for me to not get the phone methinks. Ah well, my iPod Touch will still rock pretty hard with 2.0.

And therein lies the reason I will never get an iPhone. I live in a village where the only mobile signal I can get is t-mobile. So unless apple open it up to other providers I will never, ever buy one. Which I might add is really annoying me now. I don't want to have to unlock the damn thing (and by the sound of things they're making it a whole heap harder). Shame.

I'm actually surprised that they are so short sighted as to restrict access to a single provider in this way.

Snap! £59 for the 16GB (I've always been on the £45 plan - haven't needed it though to be honest ) is fine by me.
My gf is looking for a new phone at the moment, and my current iPhone is hers if she wants it!
The TomTom is a given for me... no need for a Go 530 any more, I'm just hoping the new IQ routes/lane markers are in the new software.

I assume that O2 will want the old phone back...

Nope (as others have said) there is a clear paragraph saying something along the lines of "Don't need 2 iPhones? Give the other away to someone on an eligable tariff/get a PAYG sim"....

Every other time I (or friends) have upgraded phones within a contract, we've never had to return the old phone, so why would the situation change for the iPhone?

Im going to buy the PAYG and unlock it to use a T-Mobile £20 contract.

500 mins and unlimited texts, I doubt O2 will match that.

I'm pleasantly surprised to be getting a free upgrade, in fact, that's kind of made the decision to upgrade for me as I wasn't sure last night. I get up this morning, check here and its good news all round!

I was just going to for an an 8Gb model, but as the 16 will only be an extra £59 then I might as well go for that. And being able to keep the old one gives me other options too. Result.

Anyone know for definate if you are allowed to downgrade your plan after 9months on iPhone contracts? Anyone done it already?

Only ask cause I know they are iphone specific contracts and O2 may treat them differently from "any other O2 phone"

Fingers crossed that they don't...

Really want to see if in the flesh, for better of for worse!

Where are you people getting this '9 months' figure from? I cant find it anywhere in the O2 iPhone T&Cs. All I can see is:

"Connection to an iPhone tariff is subject to status, credit-check, payment by direct debit and an 18 month minimum term O2 contract. You can change to another iPhone tariff a maximum of once per month. Please visit o2.co.uk/iPhone for details of how to do this. You are not able to connect or change to a general O2 Pay Monthly tariff if you have an iPhone."

This suggests that you could change to the £45 tariff now, upgrade for free/£59, then next month change back to £35?
