I am not happy... Got my MacBook today but the battery case is not flush and moves. I have the choice to take it to an Apple store or have a new MacBook sent to me which will take another week

How come you can go into the store? Aren't online orders all return to online centre?

Aberystwyth eh. Yep, you've got a problem. If I were you, I would wait a couple of weeks, using the macbook you've got, then create a time machine backup, and then ask for a replacement. When it gets to you, use the migration assistant.

Otherwise, have you tried using the method you can find on this forum to bend the battery cover back in place?

I have 14 days from receiving it to have it replaced.

//Edit - I have tried the fix but doesn't work on this laptop

Finally after 3 weeks of waiting, I received the macbook and the touch. I also got 120 Euros compensation from Apple

Two solutions that I can think of:

1) You go to the Apple Store in Bristol. Bit of a trek, but that's what I'm going to do if mine is bolloxed when I get it.

2) You could send it to me and I could take it up to a store, obviously two problems with this - you would have no reason to trust I wouldn't nick it, and they might not deal with me because I wouldn't be on any documentation.

1 is probs the best. Is there a train station in Aber?

For what and how :p:D? What was your original date for recieving it?

Original date was 31st. I got it today. When I didn't receive sh*t on Friday I emailed Steve Jobs, and after a few hours I got a reply from someone in Apple Executive PR. Later on Sunday I got a call, and two more calls Yesterday. Aside from the delay which was painful, I have never had any customer service like this, outstanding.

That's weird - I emailed Jobs as well, was very polite, but expressed my disappointment, and I didn't get jack - not even an email.

I'm going to talk to the person who I bought MacBook from; I rang up. I will make them pay for someone to come a pick it up and drop off a new MacBook as it is faulty; do not see why I should have to spend a penny when it's their fault.

Bah

Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) 05 Nov 2008 (Subject to change)

Have no tracking or any sign of it heading my way yet, was shipped on the 29th...

Presuming it will not be arriving tommorrow now

After weeks of waiting mine turned up today... opened. I'm a bit annoyed to be honest. Every product up until now has come factory sealed and perfect. But the MacBook's original seal was cut with another one hap-hazardly placed on top  Everything inside looks alright, but I'm a bit miffed to be honest. I've got a bit of a thing with things coming sealed and am unhappy that it could in fact be a return which has been sent out as a brand new product. I've not touched anything inside until I hear from Apple. Boo...

that stinks... perhaps it is worth switching it on and checking the system prefernces or charge cycles it may give some info on whether the machine has been used or not, mind you i would have flipped if mine had arrived like that:(

Cool I see.

Just to add my shipment story...

I placed my order on 22nd October and it was shipped on 30th October.

I was checking my status throughout yesterday looking for any updates, as usual. It still had no carrier assigned with an estimated delivery of 6th November.

Yesterday evening, however, the assigned carrier changed to UK Distribution Centre. A couple of hours after, that changed to TNT. I tracked my parcel on the TNT website and viola - it was one step away from my local depot. Flicked back over to the Apple site and noticed that the estimated delivery date had changed to 5th November - result.

So, this morning I logged on and checked the status again - it was at my local depot. So, I rang up TNT (the freephone number on the site) and asked if it was indeed due for delivery today - it was!

Because delivery companies often have trouble finding our address I asked for some additional notes to passed on to the driver - she jotted down what I told her and said that she'd contact my local depot right away and pass on the details. I also asked if she knew what time it would arrive, she said anytime between 9-5pm because it's a business service that apple use.

Anyway... they called me back a little later to say that it would be arriving before noon, which was great as I could make sure that someone was in to sign for it!

So, the current situation is that I'm at work and my MacBook is now sitting at home. The sad thing is, I can't have it until my Birthday! Why? I'm a couple of £100 short and need my Birthday money to pay for it - my parents let me order it before so it arrived in time though. Roll on 25th...

P.S. I'm sure I'll be able to do some of my own QA testing before my Birthday... would give me time to send it back if it has any issues.

P.P.S. Don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but TNT defiantly won't deliver to neighbours if you're not in. Usually they do, but they have an agreement with Apple which says they won't - due to the nature of the goods.

I got yesterday the delivery by UPS and on the package it is explicitly written (next to the bar code) "DON'T DELIVER TO NEIGHBORS". Makes sense tbh.

Mine must have been updated this morning or late last night

Estimated Delivery Date (Subject to change) 05 Nov 2008 (Subject to change)
Current Delivery Status Delivery scheduled by final carrier, see estimated delivery date 05 Nov 2008

Is showing the carrier as UK Distribution still and tracking number isn't active :(

Maybe not today

Arrived this morning an it was well worth the wait!!! Havnt experienced any of the problems people are talking about thankfully!

Great thread...good distraction over the last 2 weeks!

Yay I get to re-enter this thread... =/

After finally talking to someone helpful at Apple I'm going to have to go through waiting for it all again, should be getting a new MacBook in 5-7 working days after they have processed it.

Just received my macbook - first ever! It is perfect. I don't know what everyone was talking about regards the display, which is perfect. Secondly, the battery cover fits perfectly, and I don't intend to take it off until I might ever have to replace the battery. The keyboard is easy to get used to, compared to my Vaio, and the trackpad is really easy. Having never had a Mac before, being able to configure a right click is very helpful. Anything else? No - even the function keys aren't slanted!
