Did they just need to enter the IMEI of your new phone into their system?

I gave them the EID of the new watch and they switched it over and talked me through the unpairing of the old and pairing of the new (which I knew how but followed their instructions anyway)

literally all done and had a follow up call 24 hours later to confirm all was good

Well I woke up this morning to a text message from Apple telling me there is a problem processing my order and to contact my card provider. I looked in my account where I had more than enough money, checked the details on the order, all correct. Just input all the same details again and order is now processing.

This is the first time I’ve bought straight from Apple, are they known for this does anybody know?

This happened to me. It is your bank declining the payment. The banks are getting paranoid about fraud, perhaps not a bad thing.

Apparently Apple attempt to take small payments twice a day prior to drawing the whole amount and my bank declined the first but accepted the second which is weird. All good though apparently so I’m relieved about that.

my apple watch seems to be doing alot better regarding battery life than yesterday i was up at 5am this morning and by almost 9pm its at 31% its no where near as good as my previous s3 but with the AOD and other apps installed i'd be happy with that if thats what it manged each and every day.

So I guess we currently have no consensus on the right steps to take when replacing an S3 or S4 Cellular model and switching to an S5 Cellular model ? 🤔

I was up at 6am and my watch is down to 74% at the moment - that's with AOD off.

Assuming you're on EE, the tech support guy who sorted mine out said that in future the way to do it is to unpair your old watch, keeping the data plan, then pair the new watch and restore from the backup that was made when the old watch was unpaired.
You then go into Mobile Data and choose to add a new plan. It should give you the option to replace the old watch on the existing plan, so choose that. It will then ask you to call EE (to give them the new watch's EID).
Once the plan activates, any existing "unused" plan should disappear and you'll be left with just one active data plan.

With how battery life seems to be on S5 ok not sure it’s a good idea to have a separate data plan

Well to be honest there is.. call them!!
Let them talk you through it all. The tech help is all UK based and was answered promptly for me. No reason not to IMO

why risk it all going wrong?

Well... I sucked it up and called EE on Saturday, I'm not joking when I say I hate calling people, but you know, £1300+ worth of phone and yey, I've made about the only call I will make all year! 🤣 (it's certainly true of last year!)
Anyway, it was a breeze, only three options on calling, can't remember what they were, none seemed to fit the bill, so I selected '2' which was for tablets and broadband (?) I figured it was fine, it was about data and not the phone... 🤷‍♂️ I told the guy exactly my set-up (which was Pro Max, Series 4 with plan and Series 5 with no plan - both watches paired with the phone) - I slipped in that it was a real pain last year 🤭 - He told me I was really lucky, cause he knows what to do, he's a tier 2 and fixes all the crap (his words) when the tier 1s get it wrong!. - I'm only guessing, but maybe option 2 got me exactly where I needed to be! - Anyway, he told me to unpair the Series 4, he literally said not to worry about the keep plan business so I did nothing, and while it was unpairing, I read him the SEID for the series 5, he fiddled on the computer then told to add the unused EE plan on the series 5 (via the watch app on the phone) and done! He said it should show up within 24 hours, but to be fair it was there virtually immediately. He then 'chatted' about old phones for about 10 minutes after everything was done, pleasant enough but I wasn't entirely sure when the call would ever end - Haha. #Done.

Battery...
For me Apple Watch performance has been fine, near identical useage throughout series 2,3,4 and (so far) 5 - each new watch has seemed to give me less 'day' to work with, I think my best was series 3 and with a day being from about 9am to 11pm I would end with 75% battery. Series 5 has been a bit worrying up until Saturday - If I started the day fully charged at 9am by 11pm I had about 20% left. I had messed around turning certain features off (raise to wake and background app refresh), but that's not the point of the purchase. I was a bit wary of applying the Data Plan in case I had to return it. BUT... I've just had a massive improvement. I don't know what caused it as it collides with ios 13.1.1, and applying the data plan. I was 100% charged Saturday at midnight, went to bed wearing the watch (theatre mode) woke at about 9am turned theatre mode off immediately and pottered all day in the house (arms exposed/no sleeves), raise to wake, plenty of notifications, infograph modular... and upon needing to charge for the night at 11pm I had 33% left after 22 hours away from the charger. I may see what it's like with Background App refresh on, but I'm not sure you need it, the apps on your screen are auto refreshed and can't be turned off if you are using them on the active face.

I'm happy :) I can probably slip back in to my charging schedule of 11pm to 12pm and 8am to 9am before work.

Sorry, gone on a bit, but it might interest someone out there... hopefully

Glad you got it sorted mate..

I hate calling people but as I said further up it’s worth getting it done so there’s no issues.

enjoy!

That’s good news. My watch arrives today so I shall unpair my S4, keeping the plan and then pair my new S5 using the back up and then see what fun and games I have to endure to sort the data plan out

I think I’m going to do the same. I figure if the old plan doesn’t transfer over then I’ll call them to get assistance. I don’t really want to call them if I can help it as I really don’t like calling customer service or tech support. The last thing I want though is to have to start a brand new plan for £7/month.

Finally the next batch of watches winging their way to their owners!

Hopefully means better store availability for the edition models inter coming days too

Exactly how I did mine.

To the poster who said EE agreed to discount the new £7 plan to £5, I would contact them again as that discount will be for 12 months only I expect. The £5/month plan will continue (with small RPI increases - mine is £5.18 a month now and in my third year), so in theory you should get that plan forever if you get what I mean. Otherwise next year you'll be on £7 plus the RPI increase?

Technically speaking I’m in the wrong thread but since we're (still) EU-buddies I’ll give it a shot. Apple marked my watch as shipped Friday but the status hasn’t updated since on DHL's site. On the order page at apple's website it says it'll arrive on October 8th. Anyone know if it’s actually in the process of being shipped or if I‘ll have to wait a while longer?

Couriers normally hold to Apples dates so even if they have your parcel they will only deliver on the date specified by Apple. If you item is shipped and Apples website says the 8th, then that's the date that DHL will deliver

That's a bummer. I was hoping to get it this week. Seems a bit odd for Apple to delay the shipment considering it isn’t a pre-order or anything. Especially since they’ve charged me leaving me out of luck buying it in stores should stock arrive.

Oh the value of a Logicircle 2 camera with sound and vision. So I am at a meeting in London and travelled up there via the choo choo and here is Mr UPS man at my door in Swindon with my watch.
I was able to tell him to drop it off with my neighbour. He had the fright of his life when he turned up at my door and heard me say hello when I wasn’t even there lol View attachment 865141

I’m not sure if it’s important but your car’s number plate is showing in that photo and it’s legible. 🤔
