That's another good reason to go for click and collect in store. Although home delivery seems good because then I don't need to go out, I'm just too impatient

I understand that we want on launch day. I did same for 12 pro. Can’t wait few more days so rather drop-in store. Likewise same for MagSafe wallet.

I just hope click and collect be available. If not and all are home delivery, we might need to be real quick button clicking

OK, some news and a question ...

iPhone 12 Pro 128 Pacific Blue arrived this afternoon, a day earlier than at first stated by affordablemobiles.co.uk and an hour earlier than stated by DPD. Of course I had other Zoom things scheduled but managed to arrange to be in and have been deferring gratification until this evening.

Did the ESR protective screen thing immediately which seems to have worked, and then set about transfer of the (backed-up) contents from the iP7 to the iP12P. All looks very good and have even been watching some Europa League on that, because I could, and I'm impressed.

Now, turning to the question.

Preamble: I signed up to buy this from EE and they have my Amex Card number which they have pre-payment tested a while back. There is no sign of any money pending withdrawal or paid in my Amex App. I also gave them the MAC to transfer over my existing phone number. The SIM from EE that came in the pack is now fitted.

Question: Is this usual from EE, ie provide me with a phone before they have the filthy lucre? And, do I just assume that my existing number with transfer?

I've resisted using the new SIM/number, including denying it access to WhatsApp - which works on the iP7 with the old SIM.

Edit: They know I'm there as I've just received a text from 150 about free pictures. I guess I just sit and wait for things to unfold. Still no charge on my Amex App, not even a pending.

I ordered on preorder day for iPhone 12 pro. EE’s site opened before 1300 so I was able to upgrade my contract and had my new phone on launch day. You have to be quick as they sell out fast.
What time did they open? I remember the problem in the past(and recently I believe)that online orders had to be manually inputted by someone.

Sounds to me like nothing is transferring over.

So why get the pro then if you know straight away you want the max? You could have looked at the demo ones in the stores to decide that so quickly.

Because I didn’t know straight away and wasn’t sure? Am self isolating so can’t get to a store.

I'm confident click and collect will be open as there is an option in the apple store app saying "pick up, storefront" and so implying the stores are open for click and collect. I am definitely going for click and collect this time round. Last pre-order I tried to do with Apple I got in the store and ordered successfully within 1 minute... and the delivery date dropped to the week later - absolute joke!

That’s true. That’s why opted for store collect on 23rd last month. Finger crossed, they will do express storefront collect next week.

Ok, so what i have been told by apple executive relations is the following:

- Apply for the iPhone payments as normal through the Apple Store app.
- During this period you will have 2 iPhone’s (IUP and Apple Payments)
- Anytime after the 16th Nov you can visit an Apple Store to return your IUP (preferably after your Apple Payments iPhone has arrived)
- It’s at this point when dropping off your iPhone that Apple will close your IUP and settle the balance for you (as they would if you did an upgrade)
- You then carry on with your iPhone Payments plan as normal

Executive relations explicitly told me that after the 16th you can only visit the Apple Store to return you IUP iPhone and settle. They will not be allowing upgrades or new IUP plans to be started.

The rationale for this is due to this counting as the company acting and selling goods rather than offering a click and collect or drop off service - which would be in breach of the non essential retail being allowed to offer click and collect services only.

Makes sense as Game started asking customers to visit their stores and make pre-payment before lockdown started today - as they would not have been able to take payment after this date.

Is that not effectively the same as buying through Apple Payments and selling your IUP phone to rebuy and paying off Barclays except that way you'd make more money than via Apple.

That basically sounds like Apple buying you out of the IUP but for a low price which is pretty crap :-(

More or less the same thing, yes. However, for some it saves the hassle of selling to a 3rd party buyer / company and then paying off the IUP themselves etc.

I am still in two minds about if I should go with Apples option or use Rebuy.

Can’t do anything until my iPhone Payments phone has been preordered tomorrow and it arrives as I can’t afford to be without a phone.

But I understand your point, at least £150 profit to be had doing it yourself.

Sounds to me like nothing is transferring over.

Just to add that as EE Customer Services are abed until 9.30am tomorrow, I've sent a message. Meanwhile I am resisting using the new SIM/number altho' I have downloaded the My EE App and might explore that.

Perhaps I'm being impatient as all else has gone well.

Just signed up to 24 months with my trade in and applecare. Probably dont need the applecare but having a 2 year old daughter i bet on needing it somewhen. What a load of money for a phone - oh well 🤣

I used a local collection point.
Do you recall if Apple Store collection is an option on Barclays finance? I have booked to go out for lunch on launch day (if am fast enough) so click and collect preferable to home delivery though I suppose with a local collection point I won’t need to queue or potentialply have to pick a time slot.
Can’t recall which phone it was but I’m sure it was midnight ordering in uk? Anyone remember that one?
I recall this! Possibly more than once. And constant screen refreshing to try to get into the store and things timing out. Stressful times.

Yes Store or local UPS collection. A local shop in my case. In and out in less that 60 secs.

I’ve upgraded every year on launch day except last year and I have never had a midnight preorder.

Preorder for UK used to be 8am and all other countries were offset from 8am BST.
Store opening and collection was 8am local time which I assume it still is.

Yup was always 8am which was annoying for me cos I was always at work

1pm suits me much better now.
