My Pro order was due on the 26th and came on the 24th, so you might be lucky.

I suspect the numbers of people involved are an order of magnitude bigger for Apple though. Plus while they’re a big company in terms of revenue, they’re actually pretty small in terms of number of people (115000 employees worldwide according to the most up to date figures I could find, which includes retail staff). I think they likely just didn’t have the free staff in the UK to sort it in time, especially as they’d have had to negotiate with Barclays to set it up and they have only a fraction of the number of locations Game have so it would have been more difficult to get people to come in. They would have had to sort a method of doing it all online which is a big ask in a week.

Seems like being an IUP customer has lost its value and does not mean anything to Apple anymore. They could have put contingency plans in place long before and implemented / tested an alternative method long before a second lockdown (not like they didn’t know customers would have been due for an upgrade on the IUP plan).

To me Apple wins. IUP customers pay off more months on the plan and in turn Apple get to pay off less.

When lockdown ends, you visit Apple Pay another £69 and start all over again (most likely without the possibility / chance of an early upgrade).

Game was a very different situation. Those customers who paid can now just turn up on the day and collect, those who didn’t pay get nothing until after lockdown.

Apple already have the infrastructure in place to do IUP fully online and via courier. This is proven in the US and also here with the express replacement Applecare+ system.
As we have said many times in this thread, the holdout for doing this seems to be Barclays and their insistence that customers sign paperwork instore.

I’m sure the last minute announcement of IUP being delayed until after lockdown can be attributed to the fact that they were trying to work out another way with their partners in the system. This obviously failed.
 
For those who ordered the normal 12 and pro on amazon last month- did anyone’s arrive the following Friday?

I ordered the 12 pro max immediately yesterday- but says delivery on 14 nov. Any chance of getting it this Friday?

Not a chance I’m afraid. No Amazon orders came until the Saturday at the earliest, many didn’t arrive until Monday/Tuesday.

Don’t be surprised if it arrives before. Apple - under promise over deliver.

I wonder if they are going to forgo a 'release day' given 1) the duel release dates for the phones and the current 'England Lockdown' situation... maybe they want to shift the stock and ease the pressure of the Friday delivery on couriers. Oh I'm just being hopeful but fingers well and truly crossed!

They’ve got the leather cases nicely discounted compared to Apple, but sadly they managed to get the phone prices correct this time round 🙁

Morning, yeah it got a bit frenetic! I went for a gold max...always believe in your soul!

Smooth process for me this season. I lucked out, managed to get in the app store at 13:01 & order but both the store & the website went down for a lot of people. I spoke to an Apple rep who said they had an 'unprecedented' server overload. You'd think they'd have learnt by now. Pre-order = a global F5 maniac refresh!

Reckon everyone was secretly hoping for a new clusterf**k with Amazon pricing. Leather cases reduced by a tenner which helped.

Expected the Mini to fly off the Apple shelves. I do think a lot of people would like a small 5.4" form factor again but not willing to drop £699 for that privilege nor downgrade in screen real estate.

Roll on next Friday for the 2nd launch day!

Vid showing all the Pro Max leather cases. That new California Poppy just pops! Now excited to receive mine Sunday from Amazon.

Edit to add there is a decent close-up of the Plum silicone case for those interested. Looks stunning! Apple have knocked it out the park with cases this year!

My phone case is coming looking forward to testing it on the fridge and the MagSafe charger.
