Music Magpie - ABSOLUTE CROOKS

I know others have had good experiences but I have been well a truly conned by them and now out of pocket by a huge amount.

I sent them an immaculate iPhone 13 Pro Max, I mean absolute mint condition, almost as perfect as the day I bought it from Apple. High-quality Tourras screen protector installed on the day I purchased it, always in a shockproof case, I even had a camera lens protector installed as I am so OCD about my tech. Never dropped and never mishandled, literally no scratches on stainless steel case apart from normal "micro Scratches" and even they were minimal. If I received my iPhone as refurbished I would have been made up - hell it still had 100% battery health.

I sent it so highly packaged - in the original Apple box which I taped shut, that was wrapped in bubble wrap and taped, then placed in a box and parcel taped within an inch of its life.

After rather suspicious delays between delivered status and they received it and after an inspection found the screen chipped, scratches on the screen, and a crack. Offer reduced from £700 to £143 as they deem the damage that bad. When challenged they have shown me photographic evidence and I can swear that the screen they showed was not the screen that was on my phone. My screen had zero scratches due to the screen protector and no chips - I closely inspected it at the point of despatch and polished it with a lint-free cloth. I reiterate that it was the definition of mint condition. Further, it was so over-packaged that I cannot see how it could have been damaged in transit.

I am devastated (strong words but it's how I feel) - I have zero recourse as they claim that's the phone they received (possibly it is but something amiss has happened in the meantime). There is nothing I can do but reject their offer and receive a damaged phone back that I swear has a screen on that is not mine. Resale value is now hugely impacted, this is not the phone I sent them, and I am out of pocket by a huge amount. They will not entertain any liability and just say that's the phone I sent - the IMEI number matches.

What can I do - seems to be absolutely nothing.

I would be livid! I’m sorry to hear that was your experience with them. I’ve used them a handful of times and had no issue but this has definitely reinforced me to take photos and videos of stuff before I send it off.

Perhaps this was your issue......

The box of the iPhone is hard. If you placed your phone face down or even face up in the box (even when said box is bubble wrapped), and this is placed inside another box, if the whole contents is overly solid, any heavy weight placed on top (i.e. during transit) is gonna be fed through to the contents inside.

Sometimes people can overwrap stuff which causes so many layers that it actually creates less safety inside.

I'm afraid to say that if the IMEI matches then it 100% IS the same phone you sent them (which, has unfortunately, become damaged in transit).

I can't see any way out of this and I would be miffed if this was me also.

Hi,

checked your post history and looks like we've got quite a similar background in that I called EE around 1:30PM and they even managed to waive my £300 fee (my free anytime upgrade was 22/10)

I couldn't track my order until this lunchtime - around 4/5 hours after my DPD notification.

My DPD said it was received at 6am but some people received it at 2am so there may still be hope?

Also did you get charged £6.95 for delivery soon after you called them?

How the hell did they mess up your order?

BTW your deal almost sounds too good to be true? i cant find it on their site

Hi

You’re talking like 2am the day of the delivery? If so then maybe I have time

But judging from past experience I will not be going with them crooks next year.

They charged me £30 upfront, they whacked in the shipping fee (crooks) and I paid around £500 to end my 13 Pro Max contract in early upgrade fees.

So basically my Plan is £86 before anything

£60.20 with friends and family

And then I’ve got BT Broadband with EE so that takes a further 10% off

So my final cost is £54 a month for a 256GB Pro Max with Unlimited Data.

This still doesn’t change the fact that EE are lying crooks and they need to get their staff trained properly and their sh*T in order!

omg can't actually believe this...... after Apple made it impossible for me to order with errors on the shipping address that it wouldnt let me fix :( then EE messed me around with "yeah launch day but oh now you've ordered I Dont know when you'll get it" and then amazon "shipping date will be emailed to you once we know" AMAZINGLY my last minute currys order seems to be on the move

@spcdust the resale is going to be a headache if what they say about the screen is actually true...is the damage obvious from the photos they sent you? As someone said before, they may be being strict on condition because of damage but another company may not be bothered by a small screen chip.

I know their reputation is good, everyone seems to not have a bad word to say about them but something has seriously gone wrong with my order. I honestly cannot fathom it, whilst it sounds completely bonkers to say this looking at the photos of the screen they showed me to back up their position I would say someone has swapped out a damaged screen with mine. No way to prove this, and does sound ridiculous but honestly, I was shocked at the screen they showed to back up their assessment - it was the difference between someone who tosses their phone around and drops it to my perfect unscratched and unchipped phone screen.

This has ruined the iPhone 14 purchase as I don't think I can now afford to buy it as, like everyone else, I rely on the re-sale value of my previous phone. The irony, I opted for Music Magpie this year as opposed to eBay to avoid these shenanigans.
I can only guess they’ve managed to mix it up with a different phone, or it’s been damaged in transit or after arrival.

Have they verified the serial number?

So tightly packaged you would have almost have had to drive a tank over it to damage it (Obviously not but you get my drift)

...that's the issue then - it been overly packaged too tight.

You should have allowed for some 'give' within the second box.

I always take photos before and a video of it - as proof of it's condition
When I have sold previously on ebay I have done the same, along with a video of me running a diagnostic app test to show all functions are working. As this was Music Magpie I thought, due to their reputation, it would be fine. TBH I don't think it would have helped even if I had as basically they just claim that's how they received it and that's their final position. Basically, you Accept or Reject their offer.

What day did you order from Curry's?

I ordered on the 12th but no change since then.

The only thing is that if you had proof of the condition prior to sending it and then MM say it arrived damaged, you could claim off RM surely as it’s meant to be insured for loss/damage (at least according to MM)?

I know their reputation is good, everyone seems to not have a bad word to say about them but something has seriously gone wrong with my order.

Last year, work colleague and I both cleaned our iphones before sending them to MM. We looked at them in the light all round to make sure nothing wrong. No micro scratches anywhere... both perfect.

We packaged them up very carefully in sturdy boxes with tons of packing and cardboard shock absorbers. Both were identical.

Mine went through perfectly well and his failed their checks and he was offered 100quid or something. When they showed us the photos of his unit, it was scratched to heck ALL over it and the screen was damaged too.

Now ok it could've been in transit :/ he couldn't prove otherwise but there's something weird IMHO.

You know what's gonna happen tomorrow don't you.......

One Apple order will arrive with DHL.
One EE order will arrive with Royal Mail Tracked Service.
Amazon order will arrive via normal post.
Curries order will arrive with DPD.

😂

yep 12th for me too. it changed today to order confirmed and then dispatched a few minutes ago. Now I can see it on the DPD app too.

I've had rotten luck so far this year and this is perhaps one bright glimmer of hope
