anyone who is setting up from fresh notice that the mail app doesn't show up under notifications settings?

wa wondering why I couldn't see new mail (gmail) arrive... can't see any notification settings for the damn thing!

Do I really like it? Is it, is it wicked?

We're lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it
We're lovin' it like that
Here is my observations on my 14 pro max. IPhone history is 4s, 6 plus, X, Standard 12 and now 14 Pro Max in purple. Love the size compared to my old 12. Hoping for killer battery life but only time will tell.

Dynamic island is ok, prefer the notch though especially for watching video where I feel the island is too obstructive in full screen mode.

Always on display needs work-too bright and could do with being more toned down.

Overall though this is quite a meh upgrade and the least underwhelming of all my iPhones to date. For whatever reason it doesn’t feel ‘special’, just nice.

tempted to try the ee esim just because I've never tried it before :)

Any disadvantages to it over sticking with my physical sim??

I tried the astronomy wallpaper on the homescreen and it barely dims at all on the always on display. The default ios16 wallpaper goes very dim though. I suspect battery usage will be dependent on wallpaper choices.

@Jinjin Once again thank you for an absolute blast with the pre order thread. this is my 2nd full year involved and I have loved every minute.
Same, my second full year being involved too and have also loved every minute. Love the support that exists in this group and online friendships formed. I was never one to upgrade yearly, in fact I swore I'd keep my 13PM for 3/4 years. Yet here I am less than a year later (by a week) with the 14PM in my hand. And that is 90% down to this thread. Also making me realise that the cost to upgrade isn't that bad if you trade-in at the right time!

a restart sorted it. after booting up again and opening mail, I got the 'getting started' card and then option to allow notifications

My god I hate DHL. Still no sign of a delivery, all their app says is ‘out for delivery’, been stuck in the house all day. Going to do in-store pick next year.

Chase was the biggest pain for me, got to photo id then take a selfie, waited about an hour.
Glad its not just me. I guess a lot of people are updating.

I've given up with Virgin money, dont desperately need to add the card back to Apply pay tonight.

Same here no sign of DHL. Does anyone know what's the last time DHL deliver upto?

Forgot what a ball ache it is signing into all the banking apps again.
Especially Chase which requires to take another photograph your driving licence/passport and take a selfie then decides it's not happy. I did this six times and it still isn't happy that it's me! It has now gone for manual verification which will take around 24 hours. Steer clear! All the other banks were pretty straightforward, still annoying though.

Well it’s more secure if you loose your phone being able to track it coz they can’t pop a sim out so that reason alone I would switch to a eSim

Will have a play around with things and see what works best. Just been thinking as well, I usually upgrade when there are significant changes to iPhone (I.e. change of size, form factor etc.) so when I upgrade it always feels that more of a wow factor. I guess there is no massive change to this years model IMO hence the slightly more muted appreciation from me.

I've come from the 13PM so my jump is a lot smaller than yours! Your battery jump from the standard 12 to the 14 Pro Max is going to be out of this world. My 13PM lasted forever.

I'm a fan of the Dynamic Island, looking forward to seeing how all the apps interact with it! Didn't notice it while watching a YouTube video earlier but will keep an eye on it to see how I feel about it.

100% agreed on the AOD - I think Apple really missed the mark here. I don't really need to see my wallpaper. I just need the time something to notify me of notifications (inception). That's all. I think they tried too much, in my honest opinion, but who knows - maybe I'll grow to love it?
