So abit of a nightmare with my EE esim - the auto transfer failed, I manually tried and also failed, at that point I thought I’d remove the sim from my old phone and try again… big mistake!

I can add the esim to my new phone but to activate it try’s to text which obviously I don’t get now. I called EE, the guy I spoke to laughed when I said I need help with my esim - said he’s been dealing with iPhone esim issues all day, said most successful way has been to not try transfer when setting up and doing it after for some reason.

He’s said he’s activated my esim now but it would only let him activate it in 24 hours so it should in theory start working tomorrow evening.

He did mention about going in store with ID - has anyone done this for an esim I’m wondering if this could speed up the process? Am abit worried if it’s not working tomorrow evening then we are going into Sunday / bank holiday with no service. Appreciate it’s my error for deleting my previous esim but it’s frustrating they are unable to activate it sooner then 24 hours 😌
EE have been a joke. It was supposed to be easy to transfer an esim

Thank you so much for your reply.

How about the United Kingdom as the main language in the set up which hasn't appeared the 2nd time? Do you think there is anything else that might have been erased? :(

I couldn't as the old phone was Android and the only possible way is to start "Move to IOS" which can only be done during the set up.
For the language go to the Settings app > General > Language & Region and you'll have an option to add a language. Add English UK and then you can remove whatever is set as main.

Change the language on your iPhone or iPad

Congratulations to all of you who received the new iPhone today..

This is my first time getting an iPhone. After I finished setting it up, I realised that I have to erase it to transfer WhatsApp chat history from Android. After doing that, the phone did not suggest the UK on the top of the list of countries like the first time I set it up. When I reached the main screen, 4 apps were missing which are iMovies, GarageBand and two more. I'm confused now and worried that I might erased more things that I haven't noticed. How would you explain the missing apps? And what more doyou thinkhas been erased? I feel like the phone has lost its new personalisation.

Please help!!!
You should be able to re-download those from the App Store.

Now where is the LK screen protector crew?
It went on easy, no problems. It does not reach all the way to the edges so cases shouldn’t be a problem. So far so good. I had the Armorite last year, I can’t tell the difference.
Installation is a doddle.

So I’ve learned a few things this year

- people go out of their way to charge phones due to worrying about battery health?? My battery was 98% and was charged overnight, wired and wireless on and off in the van with the phone shutting off due to heat multiple times during the summer as it’s used for sat nav in the van window…

- esim is largely still a mess, glad I didn’t do it. Just a simple swap of the physical one and job done in seconds.

Also have to say I’m happy with this phone overall but not feeling that it’s a very big step up from the 13pro dynamic island is ok but feel it detracts more from the screen real estate than the notch, AOD is meh and if my understanding is correct unless you shoot in RAW it’s still a 12mp camera?

And no I’m not from the Samsung marketing department 😂

The annual hell of phone swapping is over (for me).

A real PITA due to:

Work apps (RSA, various Blackberry apps)
Authenticator apps
firstdirect app
One other banking app (can’t remember which) - they wanted a photo of my driving licence and for it to exactly fill the on-screen frame, however the DL always came out blurry so it has gone for manual approval.

eSIM move went well for me, but not for the wife - for some reason the eSIM move for her didn’t work so she’s still using her old 12, until
I call EE today.

So far, only the Island is new, it’s good but as I expected, the phone doesn’t feel that different.

Not buyer’s remorse as I knew this would be the case.

A lot of Friday was spent swearing and saying “Why do I bother with this every year” 😂

Also, I’ll stay caseless for now. I started using my 13P caseless recently and even though I bought an Ink 14P leather case, I’ll use this new phone caseless most of the time.

I did get the Armorite screen protector though, will see how long that ends up remaining there!

Banking apps are the worst. Appreciate its a security layer and it’s your money they are protecting but Sainsburys bank for example needed to change a phone number and had to answer several questions from my credit report which I just didn’t know so failed now my account is locked and I have to have a letter in the post until then cannot use my credit card. Who sits there with a copy of their credit report to change a number?

It needed to send a security code to change number to the old number I no longer have. I know basically that’s my fault but should not have to go through my credit history to be able to change a phone number.

I was going to use this phone without a case and if dropped / damaged then use my AppleCare to get a replacement. If I’ve got to go through those 4 hours again with the rest of the bank apps I might just basically never take the phone out of the house.

There has to be a better way whilst maintaining security. It’s ridiculous. As people have said photos of passports and then being referred for manual checks for the next 24 hours too. Not right.

Finally coming up for air after release day.

Picked up my 14 Pro Max successfully and wife's 14 Pro was delivered on time and without hassle by DHL. Only noticed after the fact that there was a typo on the postcode!

I went for the silver and wife has deep purple. There is a subtle difference in the white back versus my 13 Pro Max. The deep purple is stunning; really classy and sleek. I can't say I don't have colour envy...

Will try out the Music Magpie kiosk at Asda later. Hopefully there'll be somebody on their side to initiate the check.

I opted to do a clean setup. iCloud data pulled down successfully and apps without iCloud data were set up manually. This took up most of my day but it was worth it as I've managed to recover 20GB+ of storage space and I now have a lean base to build on - my previous backup has been incremented upon since the OG 2007 release!

Loving the Dynamic Island. It's fun, whimsical and visually striking. Haven't had a chance to use the cameras in anger yet, but will give that a shot later in the park with my son.

Desperately waiting for my Peel thin cases to arrive. This ESR basic clear case does the job until then, but it's so thick and adds additional bulk to an already big phone. I've had to return the thin Memumi case from Amazon and it sported camera lens bezel coverage, which didn't fit.

Next quest is to source a Series 8 steel watch with milanese loop. No store stock available anywhere except Regent Street currently. I fear some AirPods Pro 2 may also be beckoning...

It's been fun, guys!

I instantly delete those apps anyway so not much lost there 😂

How did the sides hold up whilst being caseless. I’ve not been caseless since the X. Was considering AppleCare+ for the protection.

I had a really good install experience this year for some reason it actually kept me logged in to everything and it copied over my authenticator app this year with all my codes. I then set up another phone and it did none of the above so I think it is just luck sometimes.
