I still have no 5G or WiFi Calling since swapping to an eSIM during setup, even the relevant menus have disappeared in Settings. EE second line tech support insist that their eSIM is perfect and I must have a faulty new iPhone 14 Pro and I need to take it up with Apple.

First of all though I am to go into an EE store to get a replacement SIM because resetting the iPhone will delete my eSIM and they say there is no way to activate a replacement once it's been deleted (as you need to be sent an activation code over their network). Or they can send a replacement SIM card in the post at my cost.

And all this is from the network which is most advanced with supporting eSIMs in the UK (part of the problem of course since the change was pushed as part of the Apple setup process). Can't help thinking that Apple are a bit premature trying to push everyone onto eSIMs...

After reading all the headaches people have had with eSIM in this thread, I’m going to wait until I’m forced to make the switch (i.e. when Apple get rid of the sim slot worldwide) 😬

I think that's wise. After mine didn't work properly I declined it when setting up my wife's new 14 Pro. Had to decline at least twice during setup I think. Then I just swapped her physical SIM card over as normal and it's all good.

Unless of course EE tech support are correct and I do happen to have a defective iPhone 14 Pro.

Yep it kept popping up for me 2-3 times asking me to set it up when I got my Pro…Apple are really trying to push it clearly 😳

I see a lot of AppleCare talk. I never buy applecare and have never needed it. I probably wouldn’t buy it even if I did damage my phone.

Did you complete the activation on the app. I found that I had started the process but had not completed the activation. I happened to log into the app on Saturday which was a few days after and saw I hadn’t completed it. Once I did that I then had 5G on my phone.

However I still could not make calls on either my iPhone or my Apple Watch and they kept failing. Someone here I can’t remember who asked if I had taken the physical SIM out of the phone which I hadn’t. Once I took that out then it worked just fine. This was on my 13 Pro Max.

I did decide after that to go to the EE store and just get a new physical SIM for my 14 Pro Max. Make sure if you go to the EE store you take your driving license or passport as otherwise they won’t help you.

Using both of your examples, you have broken one phone in say 5+ years. If you had been paying Apple Care at say £249 every year for that period then that’s £1245, which you could’ve used to buy a new iPhone to replace the one you smashed (if that does indeed unfortunately occur).

It’s like when I was paying for an extended warranty with BMW on my car for several years at nearly 1k annually, not using it and realising I could’ve just set that money aside in my bank account to use if a big car repair bill cropped up.

I think the main benefit of Apple Care is the quick replacement especially if you use your phone for business and hassle free customer service from Apple so for some people it’s totally worth it (or if you’re really clumsy and break phones regularly 😳).
The £249 price for apple care is for 2 years, not 1.

Im in the same boat, dropped off my iphone 12 pro max at a smart kiosk at lunchtime on Saturday and got a bounced payment email. I triple checked my bank details and theres no issue my side. Everything is correct so I have updated my details again just to be sure. I spoke to live chat and emailed them. Going to try Live chat again tomorrow morning to check what is going on.

If you check Trust Pilot and filter by smart Kiosk theres a load of reviews on there from Saturday and before who have had bounced payments. Apparently some say it takes weeks before they get payment so I am a little bit concerned. But hopefully they send us all payment quickly. Do keep us all updated those who had bounced payments and let us know if you get payment. Ill update too.

This doesn‘t sound good if we all phone them every day they will soon get bored of us

If this MM experience doesn’t go well and it becomes a pain to get the money back it is safe to say this will be the first and last time I use MM.

The reviews for selling to MM are all pretty bad as well 🤦🏼‍♂️

I've used Mazuma the past years with no problems.
Sure they offer £10 less than MusicMagpie but I am happy with them.
Never see them mentioned here though.

for anybody who used Currys online did anybody use perks e-gift cards on the 14pm ? Cheers
I believe you can use them on phones now. They changed it. However I don’t think they have any iPhone 14s in stock at the moment.

I’ll just go back to taking it instore to carphone warehouse or O2, less money but also less trouble. Drop it off and get the money no worrying about having to call to get the money.

Good catch but then some on here upgrade their iPhone annually and as far as I am aware you can’t transfer it to the new one? So in reality they will be paying for Apple Care annually.
If you sell your iPhone after 1 year having paid upfront for 2 years AppleCare+ you get a refund for the remaining period.

Edit: Beaten to it by @Mr.C

You get a pro rata refund for unused Apple care. So you wouldn’t pay circa £250 for ac every year.

So if you had a phone for 5 years and. For arguments sake, the price of ac was £250 constant, then you’d have paid £625 for 5 years of cover…

You can stop it at anytime and get a refund for any time remaining. I do this every year.
