I've been with O2 pay monthly for 5 years now, but the £35/m iPhone tariff is no long value for money. I know how extortionate O2 bills people for going over data allowances.

Dito but i have been with O2 for 8 years.

Very pissed of that they think they can impose such a tiny data cap :mad::mad:

Governments really need to step in and put some regulations on cell phone companies. They're doing their best to rape their customers wherever and whenever they can! And we just sit idly by and let it happen because we depend on these devices so much!

Yes, yes....what an excellent idea! Let's have the Government, that has a flawless track record whenever they get involved, mandate what we sell, what we price it at, and regulate our entire lives. :D

Do we get unlimited plans from our...

  • Electric Utility?
  • Gas Utility?
  • Water Utility?
  • food store?
  • gas for our cars?

No....resources are limited....and it's not fair to those who consume less. The same is true for bandwidth.

oh please, they are finite resources, data isn't.

This is good for me. My current tariff is £40/month but I often go over on texts and only use 120 mins at most.

Therefore, I can get a plan that fulfills my needs now for £20/month - saving me 50% :) I've had my 3GS for 6 months and I've not even used 500mb of cellular data in that time.

lol what rubbish. data bandwidth is not limited unlike those you mentioned. It's because of the networks wanting to screw the customers and gain as much profit out of them as they can.

Remember that the £20/month is a SIM only deal. You'll have to pay off your existing contract (£20 for each month remaining) and add in the cost of a PAYG handset if you want to go for that tariff.

One other thing they missed out: MMS used to take 4 out of your text allowance. They now cost 20p each. That means my bill and the fiancée's bills will now go up by about £5 a month just because we like to send each other photos of our pets when we're away.

No, it is not. Bandwidth is only limited by the amount of our money the carriers are willing to spend to improve it. Your thoughts on Data as a limited resource are pure 3rd grade nonsense.

Data is not the same as bandwidth, although the two are frequently and confusingly used interchangeably. Data is infinite; bandwidth (i.e. maximum transfer rate) is not. (Which is not a relevant point, since no network is selling or differentiating on the basis of limited or unlimited transfer rate.)

So, you are saying that 300 million Americans can video stream HD movies from Netflix all at the same time? If not, then what you say is not true.

Bandwidth is limited.

As soon as there is a local water shortage, that will change :)

You've heard of the Water cycle right?

I jumped back to o2 with the original iPhone....I was on Virgin before that. But I'm jumping right back off again with this news. Shame i'm handcuffed till iPhone 5 :/

As if 300 million people all at once are going to stream HD movies at the same time. ;)

The fact that O2 said that less than 3% go over 500mb, then why put a cap on it?

Because you use more than 500MB of data month on your iPhone, suuuuuuure.

Whats so unbelievable about that?

I can use that in a week easy... try running slingplayer for a bit or streaming radio for a day at work and you will soon see how it mounts up!

Time to teach her the joys of sending those things by email instead. Or maybe Textie.
