UK iPhone 4S thread.

what the chances of success guys - i mean pre ordering and having it delivered on the 14th

If you order within a few hours of it being released, high chances.

It's the same IP4 design, so they're not going to have any manufacturing issues from that side of things so they should have plenty in stock.

Also, i may be wrong but there is probably less demand for the 4S than the 4. Though it is releasing in more countries on more carriers which may balance it out, or even make it sell quicker than the IP4.

Tried getting the UK pre-order time and the prices of the 32GB and 64GB models from the Online Store chat but they were as useless as ever. Not sure what the point of them is as they never have any answers.

They say they hope to have the information tomorrow, but I don't hold out much hope. Guess I will have to wait until Friday for prices.

Prices are in the iOS Apple Store App.

I'll be a new iPhone user, getting the 64GB in white I think. I have a few questions for current IP4 users.

1) Is the screen delicate enough to need a screen protector? I've had an iPod touch 2nd gen for 3 years and I have 1 scratch (I throw it around a lot as well lol).

Okay, I thought I had more questions. Guess not :p.

Not had a case on mine for about 8 months now, plenty of light scratches to see when you hold it at the right angle. Light enough that you can't feel them with your finger nail.

I only have one small one small scratch you can feel with your nail and see most of the time.

So yeah it's pretty tough. I don't go out of my way to stop it getting scratched, but i don't go putting it down on hard rough surfaces like gravel and walls etc.

I tend to keep a cover on my new iPhones for a few months until the initial love and protectiveness has warn off ;)

i always put a screen protector on!

think i might go with giffgaff but not sure what there signal is like? i need 3g most of the time cuz of work?
if i upgrade with 3 and then im stuck with the contract for 2 years that comes to:
£900 (taking into consideration £300 upgrade fee and slightly early termination fee)

if i buy the iphone 4s (£500) and then get the £10 a month giffgaff (250 mins, unlimited texts and internet) that comes to over the same period:
£740

but after 8-12 months i could sell phone etc and not have to pay early termination fee etc

just not sure on giffgaff

I switched from 3 to GiffGaff and regretted it, 3 customer service is poor but their coverage and data capacity is amazing... I really struggle with data on GiffGaff (o2).. it can be very frustrating when you need it.

Might go back to 3 with the 4S.

I'm with O2 and data has been shocking for the last year. When I first got my 3GS I had no problems, now I understand over the last 2 years there will have been a considerable increase in smartphone users but O2 should have taken steps to upgrade their networks for this.

It's now at the point where I rarely get solid 3G signal outside Nottingham city centre and I only live 20 minutes from the city centre myself!

im with 3, i never get 3g and get no service while in my front room or kitchen lol
not that bothers me
but while in london the other weekend (earls court) i got no service all day!
which was a nightmare as the wolves were playing liverpool and i couldnt check on the scores lol

never really had a problem with 3!
but looking at cost/phone and for what i use ratio

i know with the payg iphone 4s, its the initial cost but the giffgaff £10 sim will do me, i only really use 3g, a few texts and ring my uncle every weekend to tell him the wolves results lol

think i might go the payg/unlocked route, worse case giffgaff are s*** and i have to go back to 3, but there £15 a month inc unlimited data, 300 mins and 3000 texts!

sell my iphone 3gs £131 (asda) just got to find £369 :p

bit of a tangent, but does anyone from northern ireland use 3? Just wondering what they're like for coverage etc as O2 are woeful

Thanks for the replies about the screen protector. The reason I asked was because the white iPhone obviously has the extra slit for the prox sensor/light sensor and there are no ready made screen protectors that I could find specifically made for it (i.e. had the extra slit already in). I don't think I want to try to craft my own slit in a regular IP4 protector lol.

I'm getting a case for the back/sides (a speck candyshell) so hopefully the front should stay epic :).

Ive had my iPhone 3G for a few years now.. shes bent buckled, battery lasts all of 3 hours.. but at the end of the day it still works well, both as a phone and other features. Averaging the cost out, the handset price probably cost me something like 3p a day to own for the service it has given (not including carrier service).
If a new iphone costs me 5 or 6 hundred.. it will still be worth every penny if it does as much work as my 3G has.

There is alot of talk about 4S instead of 5 model.. perhaps thats exactly how Apple planned it, so it caused such a fuss over Model numbers that it all added to the hype of the launch!

Personally I felt a bit of disappointment when I heard it was an iphone 4S, but then watched the promo video and couldnt help but shudder with excitement at how the old beast will only have to survive another 2 weeks or so until she can be retired from action!.... and that voice to SMS feature.. that takes things to a whole new level!

Now what if apple had produced the 4S features with a different outer casing and did call it an iPhone 5.. most people like me would be over the moon, so perhaps its just a number which is causing so much concern?

ok I was thinking about selling my 3gs and signing a new contract with o2 (reluctantly) as I don't really want to spend £500 outright. However, after reading this thread i'm intrigued by this giffgaff. what is it? network? how do you pay? micro sim? etc. i'd rather buy outright and pay £10 on this than get raped by o2 for another 2 years

Not sure if you've seen this but preorders are due to start at 7.01am on Friday morning.

Seems everyone is going for the white as they got the black one originally.

I have the white 4, so annoying that everyone will now have a white one :D
I kid ha.

Though it does seem white will be the favourable colour. And rightly so as it is so much better looking than the black - in pictures and in the flesh.

I'm undecided what to do. Looking to get the 16gb 4s as a girl at work wants my white 4 - offering £320 for it. That means I will have to pay £180 for the sim free 4s - that's the kind of money people are going to be paying for the 4s with a network provider - plus they will be in a contract for 18/24 months paying god knows how much a month.
So seems like a decent deal for me...

My iPhone 4 contract is with voda and is 12 months. Ends in April next year and is £40 a month for unlimited texts, 900 mins and loads of data.
I like the deal I have with them, plus the yearly upgrade is good.

Just can't decide if I wanna pay the £180 or not...

I'd kill for that. My 2 year contract with Vodaphone doesn't end until next June and I'm considering selling my iPhone 4 on ebay but they're going for around £250ish from what I've seen so considering if it's worth it.
Need to stop watching those Apple promo videos...:)

12:01am Pacific time is 8:01 British Summer Time.

CultOfMac are talking about 7:01 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) when we are still on British Summer Time (BST), so 8:01am it is.

so you get unlimited data?

Yes, and it is truly unlimited apparently.

same as you buddy but im with 3!
like ive said never had any probs with 3 etc its a money issue for me (not skint or anything just watching the pennies)

my brother raves about giffgaff but he as a battered old htc hero which he hates but cant afford a contract/new handset.

with giffgaff its like payg, but you can set it up (online) so that if you drop to below £3 i think it is, it will automatically top up. up to a set amount that you set (i.e no more than £20 a month etc)

not that bothered about mins etc its all about the data for me, most places i go due to work etc have wifi but its when its not available i need 3g to be there and ready to use!
