But what did he mean by "once the phone is available you can pre-order it"?
Technically it's not available until the 14th. Does that mean it can only be pre-ordered from O2 from the 14th?

Just wondering.

I was thinking that, but i did specificaly say about pre ordering .

I'm contemplating queuing if there's no collect at store option. I'll be going away for a while soon after launch and I don't have the money to buy another if I discover that my order isn't one of those due for delivery on the 14th (sometimes it'll take a week or so for 'reserved' funds to become available again, so I don't want to chance ordering and potentially cancelling for that reason).

It will be interesting to see how Steve's passing affects demand for this phone; I don't mean for that to sound at all morbid, it's just the way of the world that there will be some sort of commercial impact.

Even on a subconcious level, people are going to be hearing even more than usual about Apple for a while and that usually serves as potent marketing, similar to a famous musician or actor passing. After all, he was no ordinary executive; the man was synonymous with hugely popular devices and was very much the public face of the brand.

Whatever emotion Jobs inspired in you, he was far from the background noise of the average CEO.

All support is done on the forums over at giffgaff.co.uk, there is no phone support, that's why their prices are so cheap.

I have been on PAYG for 10+ years (contracts are useless to me as you are locked in with inflexible usage terms) across 5 or 6 different networks and in that time I have only ever had to call customer service 5 times, twice to request a PAC, twice to give a PAC and once to activate a sim, I cannot understand how many times do people need to keep phoning customer service to care if it is rubbish or none existent?

for an example I was on orange for SIX years I phoned them once to activate the sim and then at the end of the 6 years phoned them to get my PAC, all the rest of the time it just worked, never needed to phone them at all, every other network has been the same.

Does visual voicemail work on it?

I remember someone posting on another thread that it doesn't. Apparently there is an alternative called hullomail but I'm not familiar with it. Visual voicemail is one of the features I really like with O2 and one of the reasons I've stayed with them.

Well I've had a 3GS and currently have had my iPhone 4 for a year. I like to have a new phone every year if possible, but have to say was a little disappointed at the updates from my iPhone 4 to 4S. believe me I wanted it so bad to be a bigger update, but people who have 3G or 3GS, wow thats a massive update I agree.

So I may go (whispers) to Android, as I fancy a phone with a bigger screen. I'm on 3 on PAYG £15/month add on, unlimited dat enough mins+txts for me, so its hard to get a contract as good as this, so may just buy SIM free.

My iPhone 4 was bought from an Apple retail store so is unlocked, hoping to get at least £300 for it, HTC Sensation is around £380, or Sammy S2 £400 so not too much to pay.

I have an iMac, iPad 2, touch's etc so am an Apple fan but just feel there no real update for me.

I think the iPhone 5 will be a massive update though, and nothing would make me feel better than to come back to this next year

Anyone else thin same as me?

Anyone know if there's an equivalent to orange's "1 year free internet" PAYG sim deal? I.e. you buy the sim, and you get a year's 3g without topping up. (I rarely use the phone, so this works out super cheap - pretty much £10 for the year, including internet + calls!)

I'd get another orange one, but last year they utterly, utterly destroyed any confidence I might once have had in them as a company. 2 months of complaints to their indian call centre, and each time they failed to fix the problem, and added random new ones. Had to complain to the regulator before they sorted it! (And the only other person I know on orange just left after getting totally random bills!)

So yeah, rant over (and consider it a strong warning to avoid orange!). Any other companies do a similar deal?

All you've done there is really made me want an orange sim

Yeah. T-Mobile do one.. http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/shop/iphone/micro-sim/

Try Android first. I have been for the last 6 months and i hate it.

sorry but im a tad confused!

IF i pre order a 4S tomorrow morning as soon as apple allows direct from the apple store

can i order it as a contract with a courier and not sim free? if so can i select a carrier? - and will it give me prices of said carrier or do i just order it and hope its cheap :S

I dont want it sim free i want a brand new 24 month contract.

T-Mobile and Orange are the same company so I suspect that their support offering is either the same or will be soon.

The company is called "everything everywhere" in case you were wondering.

Im currently on T-Mobile. I find their coverage great, strong 3G network and good 2G fall back - although there is no EDGE coverage with T-Mobile UK, GPRS only. 2G coverage is now shared with Orange, 3G soon, this has it's own problems, but is mostly a great development. I find the plan is perfect for my needs and I love having a flexible booster AND unlimited (tethering allowed) internet.

My iPhone4 home button has given up, so I have lodged an insurance claim a few days ago. I will pre-order a 4s, if they replace the phone, I will sell the 4, if they send a cheque, i'll use that to pay for the phone. Otherwise, I dont think the 4s would be a big enough upgrade to justify spending a lot of money on.

Just ask Orange on their customer support line. Alternatively, visit an Orange store and pop in for a micro sim. Once you get the iPhone 4S, ring up customer services to transfer the services from one sim to the other.

I used to work for Orange, there were a few problems with MicroSim's when I worked there, customer services would refuse point blank to supply a micro-sim to non iPhone 4 customers, I dont know if that has changed. Unfortumately Orange stores do not carry replacement SIMs in-store, so you have to deal with customer service (150 from your handset)

If they wont give you a MicroSim, simply order a Mini SIM and take a scissors to your current SIM, there are templates on-line, or order a free microSIM from 3, or your network of choice.

As for your Tariff, although you are on a BB contract the iPhone data will still work fine. Im not sure if you would be able to use your yourname@orange.blackberry.com email address on an iPhone though. Technically I think you should be able to, but I suspect BB will somehow have disabled it.

Hullomail is excellent. In some ways it is better than VV, for example if you change SIMs regularly (maybe travelling a lot, or living in two countries) you can still get your voicemails and missed calls regardless of the active SIM. Also it can transcribe the voicemail and send it as an e-mail or SMS, which I like. Obviously it is not integrated into the Phone App, but it barely makes a difference.
VV is one of the best iPhone features, once you get used to VM on demand, going back to standard voicemail is very tedious.
