im in london tomorrow and am wanting to buy an iphone 4s 16gb anyone got any clues as to which apple stores will have them in stock?

You've probably got more chance if you try a carrier store.

My friend works in a Vodafone store in Central London, and when I went in on Friday 5pm, no queuing no pre-order, I managed to walk out with a white 16gb.

He told me that after closing on Friday, they still had loads of stock left.
Spoke to him this afternoon, and they still had some left.

I have a 16 gig black Iphone 4s on order at apple but it says shipping 1 to 2 weeks.

Is it only the Apple store's that are selling them unlocked. I phoned 02 hoping to get a pay n go version but was told they were only doing contract and upgrade.

Was thinking about heading to Falkirk/Stirling tomorrow to try and pic one up. Could drive to Glasgow but I cant see Apple having any left.

Help...

Received 16gb black 4S at midday on Friday. Three took a reasonable 6 hours to connect me and get me up and running. Loving my first smartphone. Only reason I've held out till now is simply down to camera quality. I'm very impressed so far. Cheer :apple:

Does anyone have explanations for why in the day at around 3PM today I didn't get a 3G signal on one street (very busy street) then at 8PM tonight (5 hours later) I could? Does the amount of people in a certain area at once make 3G less available? Or was it just a weird coincidence?
Possibly coincidence, but people absorb radio waves so it could be that- that tends to be the case with Wi-Fi and large crowds- heard a tale about a football ground where when there was no crowd you could get the Wi-Fi on the other side of the ground, but when there was a match on you couldn't.

Or it could be the number of people with 3G phones trying to use that cell, often when they get overloaded they just kick everyone off. (I'm told.)

3G radio cells grow and shrink according to the number of people using them. The more people use them, the smaller the cell becomes. So, on a busy afternoon, it could be that a lot of users near the transmitter were using their phones and causing the cell to shrink such that the street you were on had no coverage. Or it could also have been a network fault that was fixed.

If I go to the Apple store to do my Orange upgrade would the iPhone still be unlocked or would it be the same as picking one up at an Orange shop?

It would get locked to network if you purchase as a new contract or upgrade. It would only remain unlocked if purchased sim free. After 90 days you can request it to be unlocked :D

Ah thanks for this, I thought it was probably a lot of people around as well. (it was verrrry busy). I was beginning to think O2 didn't even have 3G in town:eek:.

Anyone in the UK getting screen protectors for their iPhone?
Most of the ones I look at apparently affect the screen quality.

If anyone pre-ordered on the Sat/Sun following Friday 7 Oct. with a 1-2 week shipping estimate you may now find your shipping status brought forward. Mine did say 24 - 31 Oct, now today it says 18 - 24 Oct, hooray can't wait, I could possibly get it next week. :D

Same, I ordered at 5:45pm on the 7th and mine has been brought forward too to those dates....I think the 17th is a little optimistic though considering it's tomorrow and it's not even been dispatched yet!

You might think optimistic, but when I ordered my MBP I received the despatch confirmation the night before it arrived, literally the email was like 23:10hrs.

The better ones don't affect the screen quality. I have tried many different ones including Power Support, Invisible Shield, Best Skins Ever, Phone Devils etc. etc.

The best by far is the SGP Steinheil EX Ultra Crystal. You can get front and back covers too. Easy to apply, and once on you would not be able to tell that it's there!

Available via eBay and Amazon. :)

Incidentally, I have no connection with the company.

I will keep faith then! I expected it to be Friday with the previous dates, so anything before then is a bonus.
