Any of you guys that have your phones from the Apple store or any other network i have a question. Are all of you lacking the "Enable 3G" switch in network settings or is just a network-specific thing? Thanks a lot.

nope, Apple removed that toggle for the 4s....... why I have no idea!

I'm loving my iPhone 4S :D

At first wasn't sure about not being able to turn 3G off but doesn't seem to be eating too much of my battery so it's all good!

AND......the antenna issue is fixed! I just can't get the signal to drop at all!! So happy :)

i'm going to buy one unlocked from apple at some point to avoid another 2 year contract. What would be the best network/rolling plan for me to join?

How can you given that you can't compare it?

I never had the issue anyway.

It really depends on your needs. For example I took a 18 month upgrade on T-Mobile. I get 300 mins, 300 texts, Unlimited (no FUP) Internet and a flexible booster (I use this for International Calling), for £20/Month. I got the SGS II for free with this contract - I sold the SGS II for £400 quid, which means I pay -£2.00 a month, on average. I could move up to 500mins/500texts/Unlimited Internet/Booster for another fiver, or £3 a month, on average! This is beter than any SIM Only deal.

Remember folks, a 2 year contract does not tie you to the phone, only to the contract, if you are happy on your current network and can get a good retention deal, do the sums and see how it works out. If the plan works for you, it can be a great way to work.

Today I went to the Apple Store in Southampton but all of the iPhone 4S were gone, what a pity !.
Do you think is possible to get it for tomorrow?

I know someone that works at the store in Southampton, I can try asking them and see if they know when they're getting a delivery and get back to you here..

Has anyone on O2 upgraded their contract early in an Apple store?

I have tried to get a clear answer from O2 several times and it would appear that monkeys are in charge of the phones and stores!!

I enquired about this, Apple said they can do anything regarding contracts, but O2 quite confidently told me that Apple can not process fast track upgrades, would need to be through O2, CPW or P4U :D

Has anyone managed to achieve an early upgrade at an Apple Store? o2 seems to think this needs to be done through them.

I never had the issue anyway.

I'm getting way better battery life on my 4S than I ever did with my iPhone 4 (which I obviously don't own anymore). I don't know what the difference would be between having 3G on all the time compared to 2G all the time. I'm not too bothered though because with 3G on all the time (get a good strong signal in my house) I'm getting great battery life. Again, way better than I did with my iPhone 4.

Yeah, not EVERYONE had the issue but obviously a significant amount of people did. I did :p

The batteries aren't the same, the connectors aren't the same. Too many variables.

Was playing around with Siri earlier, and mixed results. Got some some commands wrong and few times it said 'calling .... ......' which I had to quickly exit when I asked it something different.

Overall its pretty good, but will be better when maps etc. work in UK.

I said the attached quote as fast as I could and was quite impressed how quickly it processed it (within about 2 seconds!) :D

I dont know if this has come up. But i thought the micro USB to 30 pin would be included with the 4S?

Or did we have to buy it as an extra?

where is the micro usb to iPhone adaptor?

----------

ignore found it.

signal strength on the 4s is definitely a lot better. In brent cross with my 4 i could never get a signal but with the 4s i get enough signal to make calls and send sms.

The included minutes do not cover international calls so if you need to call India a lot then ignore this as a decision maker. Skype (or similar) would be better.

Tethering is included in the one plan monthly charge and is also unlimited.

3 use Orange for their 2G service which is only GPRS.

Uh, that's not what I meant.

There's an app called Chattimeapp that uses the available minutes and routes the calls to their servers to make international calls.
You make a call normal through chat time app for e.g: 0044-----------. It's going to call its own servers that are landline numbers (01/02/03 mostly 02) and the servers will then route the call internationally.

So all you need is unlimited landline minutes so you could make unlimited international calls. Obviously, Chattimeapp charges around $14.99/month for this service.

Unfortunately, my experience is that they do scratch, and I speak as someone who is careful with his stuff and takes care to avoid damage.

For sure, I've had every iPhone since the first, had cases on some and not others. This time around I decided to go for the Zaag Invisishield, does feel a bit weird at first but I'm glad I have it on there. Plus it only cost £8 on my staff discount and got it fitted for free ;)

I never had the issue anyway.

It was mainly an American issue, because AT&T was overloaded before Verizon and now Sprint are taking some of the iPhone induced network strain.

It was never so much of a problem in the Uk where we had 3, Orange, O2, T-mobile and Vodafone.

I managed to get a special offer Tesco Mobile SIM-only contract. 500 mins, 5000 texts and 500MB Internet for only £10 a month (min 1 year contract). I paid an extra £2.50 a month to increase the Internet access to 1GB. Not bad. It isn't an "iPhone" contract so you don't get the free BTOpenzone and Cloud WiFi, but who uses that anyway? I have found that where there is free WiFi there is usually good 3G. Tesco uses the O2 network so if you get a good O2 signal you'll be fine with Tesco. Their iPhone tariffs are more expensive, but not necessary. Don't believe what they tell you - the non iPhone SIM works perfectly in an iPhone.

Fingers crossed for those of you still looking for devices. If it helps, I'm considering divorcing Siri. She never listens, she doesn't understand me and when she does, she seems to misinterpret my requests.

For some reason she only understands home and work.

And she never reminds me to call my wife when I leave the strip club.

Time for a divorce, I think! I jest, the technology is very handy for texting, emailing and operating my calendar while driving but I'd like to see it support more locations like, "school", "cinema", "tesco", etc :)

Still, the camera and extra speed is really awesome :)

It was awful for me also - like I said if it had been any other phone I'd have dumped it but loved the iPod etc bit of it so just used a weird hold when I needed to make calls lol
