when trying to preorder off the Three homepage? Everything nice and responsive until the very last step, which idles forever and then fails. Tried twice - I hope it doesn't fail after they've tried authorising with my bank! I'll wait for it to settle down a bit and then will try a third time...

Yeah I'm getting the same... Called 3 they said no orders had gone through...

why will o2 constantly dick us around! no word on pricing etc and there support is practically telling us to go away!!

Iv said it before and iv said it again-

Leave 02.

Only coz they had exclusivity at the beginning majority of people are on 02.

Their are better networks then expensive 02.

I know but if you get a good signal and enough data what is the problem with a 2 year contract?

I'm just astonished I could get a 64Gb iPhone 4S for £280

O2 upgrades only in stores....hmmmm this could prove difficult. I'm hoping they are holding fire on their tarrifs just to see what everyone else is offering.

problem is that iphone 5 is going to come out, 24 months deals are useless...

Just letting you know ... I got this error message and the order had actually gone through! I have three iPhones ordered with confirmation emails and can't get through to the 'my account' section to change it!

Yes three's prices look good but they are 2 year contracts, after coming out of a 2 year contract with O2 im never doing it again.

Being tied down for 2 years is horrible, if you can, buy the phone outright, then sell it just before the new model comes out and you will be able to get the new model every time while only paying £100-£200 for it.

Yes you have to pay £500 to get the first iPhone but after that it's much better not being tied to a 2 year contract, and also knowing you can get hold of the next new model for a lot cheaper.

Yep, totally with you.

I have been on contract with o2 on 18 and 24month contracts for about 5 or 6 years now. It's good knowing you never run out of credit, but when you come to get your next phone you have to pay off hundreds of pounds of your remaining contract.

This is the first time i have purchased unlocked from Apple, and so glad i did. Will be going with 3's 1month rolling contract for £15 or GiffGiff's £10 package. I'm on o2 at the moment and reception and 3g speeds are poor, and GiffGaff uses them. I'm tempted to try 3.

was refreshing from 8am this morning, got through around 8:35 ish.
picked up a SIM free 16GB white 4S. Now just have to be patient.... >.<

As for tariffs I'm going to go with a 30 day rolling from Three, probably starting at the £15 one (300 minutes, 3000 texts, 1gb data) and move up if need be. With apps like whatsapp and Skype I don't really need much...

Interesting points to note on Three (they might have been mentioned before but it never hurts to write it again)

-Tethering is included on all pay-monthly One Plans (doesn't matter about contract length) It's not included on the PAYG Unlimited data plan though.
-Tethering doesn't work on the other SIM only plans (Sim only 100 etc) for some reason.

Actually... now that I write this: Do the SIM free phones come with tethering enabled out of the box? My Japanese iPhone 4 didn't support tethering as standard but I would assume that as I am buying it SIM free it should be available? Or is it a network thing that they can block?

I've been on Tesco prepay for 12 months or so and actually quite happy, especially financially, but I do like the "freedom" a contract brings in actually USING the phone. I think 24 months is a perfectly adequate time to use a phone for, and it bring me neatly in line with the iPhone 5S - I've been on the "tock" of the "tick, tock" iphone updates, and I think I've done quite nicely out of it.

As for the Three orders, that's scary - I'll hold off ordering again for a few hours I think. Having said that, I haven't had any confirmation emails (wish I did)...

My order status still says....

Processing items - dispatched : ships by October 14th.

I placed the order around 8.40 and still haven't received confirmation mail and my credit card is not charged. Is that normal?

Yep, well that's the beauty of buying outright, you are free to try all of the networks you want to find the best.

Before I was a bit cautious about spending £500 on a phone, but if I stayed with O2 it was going to cost me about £300 more over the 2 years because of the £35 a month bill.

In the long term buying outright wins all day.

So when it comes out surely you can sell your 4s and put that towards a 5? You might even be able to get one direct from apple and still keep your contract?

I don't understand what the problem is with 2 year contracts if people want to get the phone subsidised.

When you stick a SIM in your unlocked phone, it will download the carrier settings from the service provider, which will dictate whether tethering is allowed or not. It doesn't lock the phone in any way or set anything permanently - stick a different SIM in and it will fetch another set of carrier settings.

I was waiting to pre order the 16gb White iPhone from 3, however it seems as if they only allow 16gb pre orders to be done in store. By the way does any one know when one stop phone shop will be starting pre orders?

I an thoroughly recommend 3. I unlocked my 3GS from O2 as soon as I could and have been buying outright since.

This morning in London I got over 5Mbps download speeds on my iPhone 4. It makes O2's 3G speeds look absolutely woeful.

It's not the problem that some people think it is, but also it's not as good as other people think it is! As long as when you work out the prices to compare, you remember to take into account that a £35/m on contract can be reduced to £20/m once you're out of the contract period. In other words, on a 24m contract you'd be paying £35 x 24, whereas on an 18-month contract over a two-year period you'd be paying (£35 x 18) + (£20 x 6).

To be honest, when I worked out all the options last year for the iPhone 4 there didn't seem to be much in it whatever you did - Unlocked on 30 day rolling, 18m or 24m. I think only Tesco looked like it was going to be any cheaper, but they had big availability issues at launch.

Thanks :) My other iPhones were all jailbroken to unlock them and allow tethering, so this is the first time I've done it legitimately! (my iPhone 4 then screwed up and I lost my unlock, making me very unhappy, very fast)

Yeah they should! I've read around that the camera is the same size and stuff.

No, you need a case that will fit a Verizon (CDMA) iPhone as the mute switch has moved slightly to allow for antenna change. You will need to check if they say whether it is compatible or not.

One Stop Phone Shop!

I just spoke to a representative and they ensured me that the iPhone 4s should be available for pre order later today. As you may know they stock contracts from all providers and at a good price thats why i want to pre order from there. The usually £99 upfront cost with the one plan from 3 is around £20 or less from One Stop Phone Shop.

Just FYI, Topcashback seems to be offering 106 Pounds on the One Plan on Three, although I'm dubious whether it'll track on the preorder.

Still, the Cashbacks on there are massive, even on other networks, so it might even be worth waiting for the 4S to appear in the proper shopping systems for it.

106£ Cashback + 135£ for my old GS would almost give me the 4S for free...

Are o2 out of their minds? I wonder how much business they are losing by virtue of not taking pre orders.

I am going to the US in November and was looking to buy a 64gb unlocked as it works out about a £100 cheaper (no surprise). It states that it is GSM only which I think is OK for us in the UK, i'm with o2.

So much for a world phone then!!

Indeed...the original iPhone is the only reason I moved to O2 and them loosing exclusivity is the first reason I choose to leave!!

I get my SIM only one plan for £16 with 3....Don't think I'll be going back any time soon! :D
