So how many of you guys are upgrading from an iphone 4?

I am, I know its a limited set of upgrades, but I am excited about the A5 and massive performance boost... :D

Ordered 2 by accident, how much do you think they'll be fetching on ebay on release? black 16gb

I am going to the US in November and was looking to buy a 64gb unlocked as it works out about a £100 cheaper (no surprise). It states that it is GSM only which I think is OK for us in the UK, i'm with o2.

So much for a world phone then!!

As long as you remember to include US sales tax, the outside chance of getting hit by customs when you bring it back into the UK, and use the actual conversion rates your bank or credit card will charge you rather than mid-point trading exchange rates. Apple warranties are good worldwide and yes, UK is GSM.

It's not the problem that some people think it is, but also it's not as good as other people think it is! As long as when you work out the prices to compare, you remember to take into account that a £35/m on contract can be reduced to £20/m once you're out of the contract period. In other words, on a 24m contract you'd be paying £35 x 24, whereas on an 18-month contract over a two-year period you'd be paying (£35 x 18) + (£20 x 6).

To be honest, when I worked out all the options last year for the iPhone 4 there didn't seem to be much in it whatever you did - Unlocked on 30 day rolling, 18m or 24m. I think only Tesco looked like it was going to be any cheaper, but they had big availability issues at launch.
Yep, my sentiments exactly. At the end of the day, if you plan to own an iPhone long-term, whatever the minutes and data you need, it is going to cost you whether you pay up-front for the phone and go on a cheaper rolling monthly, or you pay less up-front and pay more for a contract. If you plan on upgrading each year, you will lose money to the tune of £20 or so, so factor that in too and it really makes no odds to me. Bottom line is I will need a phone anyway for the years ahead, and need a good amount of data with tethering.

As it happens, this time I've paid for my iPhone 4S outright, but have gone with a "One Plan" 24 month contract with 3 at the same "SIM-only rate" of £25 per month. The bonus for me doing this as a contract is they will send me another handset that I want for my daughter, so that's £250 I don't need to spend now.

I an thoroughly recommend 3. I unlocked my 3GS from O2 as soon as I could and have been buying outright since.

This morning in London I got over 5Mbps download speeds on my iPhone 4. It makes O2's 3G speeds look absolutely woeful.
I second that - first iPhone was with O2 - never again. Been with 3 for ages now and never looked back.

My order status still says....

Processing items - dispatched : ships by October 14th.

I placed the order around 8.40 and still haven't received confirmation mail and my credit card is not charged. Is that normal?

That's what mine says! I don't know if I (or my dad) have been charged, as he bought it for me.

I always buy my phone outright from the apple store, keeping a rolling 24 month contract with o2 for £18 a month and grabbing my "upgrade" every 2 years for ~half the price of its retail value (usually the same phone i already have), bang the upgrade on ebay and that pays the rest of my contract off, and then I just buy the latest handset available, rinse and repeat

Got min at 8:41 am iPhone 4S, white 16GB. Bought it on the App Store app on my iPhone 4, went smoothly, got email straight after and the money was debited from my account as soon as i checked after 9am.

Thanks, yes I included the tax but sod's law I will miss the availability date (i leave the US on the 12th Nov).

I'm still on my iPhone Simplicity plan for £20pm with unlimited data so don't want to take a new contract out.

If i remember back to Tuesday correctly, i swear a lot of people were talking trash about the IP4S.

And here we are on day one of preordering with over 1000 replies

Can't wait to try out Siri ! i just really want to know how long of a reply i can give in SMS's before it goes wrong.

Same screen for 4 hours!

Been at this screen for 4 hours with no email or sign of activity. What the heck do i do?

I've never actually understood why so many people were on O2 in the first place.

o2 were exclusive for the first iphone and thereafter. So a lot of people on contract with o2 then just to get the iphone are still with them now.

Im not sure what Apple's system was doing this morning. I now have 2 iPhone 4s 16GB white pre-orders. With order times already extending 1-2 weeks, I think I'll be putting it on ebay.

Exclusivity on iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3Gs. Now, in fairness to o2 they did a lot better than ATT in the early iPhone years. I was quite happy with the performance of my iPhone and iPhone 3G, but around the time the 3Gs reduced in price and iPhone sales increased, while o2 were still the exclusive carrier things began to go downhill. Shortly after, I began to work for another company, put my work SIM in the phone and couldn't believe the difference in coverage and speed. Since then I have done everything I can to avoid o2. Unfortunately my work supplied SIM is o2. I use it in my iPad and find 3G coverage woeful and speeds even worse.

If 3G coverage is important I genuinely recommend 3. Their network is great and their prices are too. Hopefully thye will keep up with network investment, they have flagged possible bandwith issues in the next 12-18 months.

got 2 white 4s on order, 64gb and 16gb.
hope they come together and delivery on friday.

ordered about 9.30am

also have had money reserved on credit card

I'll defend O2. Been with them since before the original iPhone, never had a single problem with my service and moved to a SIMplicity deal as soon as I could, keeping my unlimited data and 1,500 texts a month.

I've had the same SIM for years now and just buy unlocked from Apple, easy :)

Still no joy ordering from three - probably have four on the way now though with all the failed orders I have had :)

Is everyone elses order on "Processing" ?

The second this thing is dispatched (I'm guessing monday or tuesday next week) i will pass out in excitement :D
