Update: Lloyds TSB cleared the funds to Apple - looks like Apple have cocked up on my order; they've confirmed that they've got my money, or a hold on it at least.

Only adding my 2p to the thread now, but I managed to pre-order a black 64gb from Apple just before 9:30 this morning, and got a confirmation email almost exactly two hours later.

In the meantime I'd called my CC company to make sure they'd received and approved the transaction (they had). :D

This will be a serious upgrade from my very long-in-the-tooth iPhone 3G, and I can't wait to try Siri. It looks like it could be the next big thing in mobile, and I think its impact has been underestimated by a lot of the (disappointed) reviewers.

Despite what that CS person said, I'm assuming it'll be delivered on the day, as that's what's happened before. Maybe they're just told to say that, in case. No guarantees or whatever (especially with Royal Mail being what they are these days).

I pre-ordered! Mine's saying delivery from Oct 21st, but that's because I didn't order till about 5:45pm ish (couldn't decide whether I wanted to pre-order on contract or not) but I'm pleased I'm getting one, even if I have to wait a bit longer for it!

Can anybody confirm whether or not the orange 25% discount for public service workers will apply on the 4S still .. it does on the 4 but unsure on the 4S

Order History and Order Tracking have been down for hours. I just get the yellow post-it that says they're sorry and they'll be back soon.

I ordered this morning at about 9:45 and earlier today, I was able to access order history and my order was there. I had two, actually, managed to cancel one and now I'm left with one, as it should be.

I'm a bit worried because I *still* don't have an order confirmation message. Considering I ordered just shy over 40 minutes after the preorder went up that makes me wonder...

First agent said the he did not know why, and told me to repurchase, second one says it's not cancelled but is looking further into it as I type.

They've got hold of two charges.

He's just ask me to contact my bank, Lloyds TSB

I've got my fingers crossed for you. It seems that every year there are issues some way or another.

I suspect that as you made two purchases, that your bank raised it as a block/problem. If you can contact your bank and get the block removed so that the authorisation process goes through before contacting Apple, the Apple rep might be able to retry the order.

All the best,

Mike

Me too. I would also like to be able to actually log into my account because I keep getting a "we'll be back soon" store message when I do. Argh. Money not reserved on my cc either.

When I spoke to CS about the money aspect (and this could be the CS not really knowing what they are talking about...again!), they said, if it is a debit card, they pre-authorise the full amount.

If it is a credit card, they pre-authorise £1

I checked my CC earlier today, and it has an available balance of £1 less than the credit limit minus the balance, so that kind of ties in with what they told me, so worth just checking the balance, and available credit tally.

Thanks - but I've been told that the only thing I can do is make a new order, whilst Apple continues to hold my money.

Time to email Tim, the supervisor and the guy I spoke to didn't know why it was cancelled. The bank confirmed that no block was in place.

I've now to wait until the 28th to hear anything.

Yup here also. I still have one more iphone than I need although (allegedly!!) my credit card company have denied the payment for one of them!!

It's really not that impressive that their whole 'account' section has been down more-or-less all day!

LOL. Well my credit card has been authorised for £2994 of iPhones. It should have only been £998. I have cancelled off the other orders, but it must depend on the type of credit card. Mine has pre-authorised the full amount.

lol this thread had 20 pages when i went to bed last night lol

been trying to ring three all day about the iphone 4s

got through, guess how much they want to cancel my contract early 7 months early (i thought mine had finished it was my partners) and then pay for the iphone 4s on a new 24 month contract?
bear in mind i paid £300 to upgrade to the htc hero (can u believe that? lol)
£300 to upgrade to the iphone 3gs!

£99 for the handset and no fee for early termination (should be £124) for the 16gb white (dont need more than that)
but they said i cant stay on my current contract, i need to move up to the £35 a month contract which i get is:
2000 mins
5000 texts
5000 3 to 3 mins
and all you can eat data

so ive gone with them!

if i went with giffgaff/three payg.
£124 to end contract (thats what they said)
£500 for handset from apple etc
£15 a month = £360 (£15 x 24 months)
thats £984.
ok i know i would have the flexibility of leaving when i want with giffgaff/3 payg, but im happy

stay with 3
£35 = £840 (£35 x 24 months)
handset = £99
thats £939!

cheaper by £45! and i get to keep my insurance package through 3 aswell then!
and they said i get it on day of release!

Thats excellent. And everyone used to complain about Threes customer service. Cant argue with that.

Might tell my mum to get on the blower, she failed and went for Android but a really crappy LG phone. However, she has 18 months left. I dont think they will be quite as accomodating.

to be fair never had a problem with 3, the customer services gets a bad press because lets face it, more likely than not you can't understand the person your talking to

like i said i paid £300 each time ive upgraded.
when they said its £124 for the early term fee i was fearing the worst, to which i did raise the point that in the last 2 and a bit years i have upgraded twice at a cost of £600 etc
but to be honest going up to £35 was a bit of a wounder for me, because i happy with what i got for £20 but i couldnt find the £500 needed with my wedding next month!

i quickly jotted down the costs while on the phone and it worked out ok financially for me so i went ahead

some people might be luckier/unlucky when they call there mobile provider, but im happy with the deal i got!

For those worrying about when they will receive their handsets...

I'm guessing we'll start to see activity on the tracking at the start of next week and will receive our iPhones on the 14th (if your lucky, the 13th)

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration - I'd say that the majority of people who've been given delivery dates of 14th will get them then, but yes, based on track record there will be a significant minority who get let down either by Apple (usually with advance notification) or by courier companies who run out of time of the day.

I just read that the delivery time had already been pushed back 1-2 weeks.

To those that are O2- upto you if you want to waste your money with o2 expensive customer service.

Three- all the way

I'm more worried about the fact that I've placed my order almost 12 hours ago and still don't have a confirmation email from Apple. I was able, after hours of trying, to once again check my order history and it looks just fine. My order is in the "processing" stage, like all of our orders I presume. I don't know what to make of this missing email confirmation...

Three preorders

Looks like 3have sorted out there problems... 32GB 4s with all you can eat data ordered...

It could be that your bank is holding something or Apple is still processing. From very late experience, i.e today, if it processes for a long time, and authorisation has occurred, it's Apple. They cancelled my order and are still holding my money. The agent couldn't reprocess it, so I ended up re-ordering for a very late October delivery.

I'm starting to think it has something to do with the fact that I ordered from Switzerland, with my billing address here, to my sister's address in London. Perhaps that complicates the verification/authorization process with the CC company or something. No idea.

do we know which networks the 14.4Mbit/s will work on?

as far as I can tell only 2 networks have it so far:

vodafone has HSPA 14.4Mbit/s all set up and ready to go and have been using it in their dongles for years.

3 mobile have HSPA+ at 21Mbit/s set up and expanding fast also using it in their dongles, question is will this 21Mbit network work at 14Mbit with the 4S.

That as well

you will never get that 14.4 download speed, well actually you may once... and i say once lightly, this is england everything is ****, i mean its insane to think that the iphone 4s could acheive faster speeds than my broadband (virgin 10mb) its just not right...

yep lol, I understand that, I mean if you're on a network that has the 14Mbit connection you are more likely to get something like 6/7Mbit, which could be possible as I currently get 3.5Mbit on 3mobile which theoretically could be 7.2 (which is actually faster than I would get if I had ADSL BB and not virgin myself)
