Do u remember when they charged your credit card?

They reserved the money straight away, but it didn't actually get taken until after they had dispatched it. That was on debit card.

This year I ordered on Credit card and I can see the money has been reserved as my available credit has gone down by the cost of the iPhone but they money hasn't actually been taken yet.

Do you expect that queuing from the night before launch will be enough to secure one? I couldn't pre-order in time and I'm out of the country at the time it would be expected to ship, so this is my best option.

Every Apple Store always receives stock, right?

Apple stores will deffo have stock on launch day. The Online and offline stock levels are from different stock.

Ahh, cool. I'm starting to get worried, that's all! I've never done a through the night queue and I'd be pretty disappointed to spend all that time only for them to open up and say 'sorry, but...'.

I don't think you will need to do an all nighter, 6am should be fine! :D

Unfortunately I have no other way of getting to the store before 9am! I currently have no car and the nearest store is getting on for two hours away by train. It's a bit of a shambolic situation, but hey...as long as there's stock :)

Was this at the launch of afterwards?

Other than launches, I agree that most Apple kit ships directly from the factory. However, my experience of the iPad launch (and following the iPhone 4 launch in this thread), Apple shipped the UK orders for these two launches out from a UK distribution centre. The fact none the UK orders show as being 'Prepared for shipment' yet makes me think the same will happen this time. US launch orders seem to ship direct from China, and are being prepared now.

They were all at launch and all showed tracking from Shenzhen in China via Hong Kong. My launch 2011 Mini was also shipped from China.

I couldn't find a thread for the iPhone 4 but the following two are UK threads for the iPad and iPad 2. Both show people's orders here in the UK shipping from Shenzhen. I'm pretty sure it was the same for the iPhone 4.

Interested to know this too but for 3...will it be enabled on their One Plan as they include tethering in their unlimited data so I imagine it will be?

You don't get free BT Openzone or Cloud wifi with 3, but the 3G is so ugh faster I have not missed it since I switched from O2 in May.

Looking through the iPad launch thread it looks like some came from China and some the UK. Mine came from the UK - I posted the tracking info here

I didn't buy an iPhone 4, but a delivery status on this page shows at least one UK iPhone 4 order originating in the UK (Tamworth).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

Apple have a distribution centre in Cork ireland.

They ship most of the stuff for the UK from there, ordered a BTO iMac at launch and it shipped from there

When I bought my MBP, it landed at Heathrow from China before being shipped to Tamworth for distribution. Very painful (and somewhat humorous) following its 2-day movements around the country considering I only live ~15 miles from Heathrow.

Haha thanks for that bud, just checked my gmail spam and low and behold!! Is this what you got?

Oddly, my quidco has tracked at a different rate to yours:

Purchase Value 0.00. Cashback tracking: 143.33 Tracked 08 Oct 11

Then again I didn't take it out on 'the one plan' I was happy enough with the 60 or so quid for the text 500 to pay a little less for the phone for the same monthly bill - would never use all they're offering anyway!!

Ah, the good old order confirmation spam :) Thought I'd mention it in case yours wandered into Spam too...

That's pretty mich the same email than I got, so the preorder seems to generally track as 0, which puts my mind at ease a little. I went with the One plan (unlimited data will come in handy for my iPad tethering), though considering that 109 was the most anyone should get according to Quidco, 149.something for me and 144.33 for you is strange, strange numbers as well.

Ah well, I'd rather see more than less there. Let's hope we get something out of it, good luck! Seems like that 8 digit number will also help in the case of a dispite - I never trust trust cashback sites...

So I've preordered and now I'm deciding what to do with my iPhone 4 16gb black.

There is eBay but it can be hassle and I would get in the region of £300 but there are fees to take off that.

Then there is recycling websites. I recycled my iPhone 3G with O2 recycle last year and didn't have any problems with them. This year the are offering £266 for my phone.

Envirofone are offering £270 and cashinmyfone is offering £280 which is a bit more appealing. However I worry about them either 'losing' the phone or taking off money for damage particularly when it's in immaculate condition.

Has anyone had any experiences they which to share? Most of the reviews I've found for the latter have been pretty bad and why would Envirofone have two different companies running?!

Envirofone are very good, used them once before, excellent :D. Also sent it via special delivery... Just in case.

Last year, orders came from China. I still have the original box.

Some, but not all orders... you can't extrapolate from n=1 to say 'orders' implying ALL orders

It seems that some came direct from China, but some were definitely shipped out from a UK distribution centre.

I said orders, Apple orders iPhone from China :)

Order, in this case, is the process of Apple getting a manufactured iPhone from x to y.

I think from past experience of tracking iMacs & MacBook Pro's if you order additional stuff like Applecare you can't track your order until it gets to UK, when you'll find it at an airport on it's UPS or whoever route to you.

However, if you've just ordered the iPhone we can hopefully track it from China, getting thoroughly confused by time differences (!), think it usually goes via Netherlands for some sort of checking & then it's clue to UK. If you can be bothered I think you can track your phone's plane from the shipping time in China!

I see on the US thread folks are getting the shipping notifications so I guess it won't be long for us in UK.

Unlocking iPhone after contract expires

Hi Forum. I am planning on getting the 4s from O2 on a 12 month contract, after the contract expires how easy is it to unlock the iPhone so I can have the option of changing network? Thanks M

Very easy, just call them up or use an available unlock form.
