I said orders, Apple orders iPhone from China :)

Order, in this case, is the process of Apple getting a manufactured iPhone from x to y.

As the iPhones are made in China, they all start off there

The point I am trying to make is when/where they show up as having "shipped". With previous iPhone/iPad launches, a significant proportion have started their tracking in the UK and not China. I'm making this point to try to allay fears that we won't get UK orders on the 14th because the US orders shipped from China over the weekend whereas our UK orders didn't. We had this discussion over the iPad, but in the end we (the UK) got them a day EARLY!

Given none of the UK orders seem to show as "shipped" yet, I suspect our iPhone 4S's are being shipped en-masse from China to the UK. Once here they will have their shipping labels stuck on and can then be traced. (This is why we can still change the shipping address at the moment - this only changes when the labels are printed.) For some reason the US orders had their shipping labels attached in China so can be tracked from there.

Apple UK also seem to use two couriers (UPS and TNT) for big product launches, presumably as one courier alone cannot cope with the launch day peak in volume.

Usually UPS, my iPhone 4 arrived from them last year - and the guy said he had nothing but iPhone 4's on his van ( not sure how he knew? )

:apple::confused:
High value goods get stored/transfered in a secure area before being sent out for delivery so I guess when the driver had to collect hundreds of similar sized packaged all from Apple he made the link.

If you ever collect a phone or pc/laptop from a courier you may notice that it takes a while to get your package from this area.

Any ye from Belfast or would anyone know, whats the odds of getting a 4s on friday from the apple store in Belfast? scale of 1-10?

I understand I would have to queue but IS it a case that anyone that hasnt spent a night of campin outside the place can kiss the chance of getting one goodbye?
Also how many units do they get into each store....?

Just wondering would I have any chance of getting one, cuz I would have a nice drive up there to get one being from the republic.

Any help wud be great
cheers

Guys, what's the deal with UK delivery, awkward situation, I shipped to my work, work is moving on friday  so I've changed it to my home address, but no one will be in?

I have nowhere to send it!! WAAAH :(

What happens if i preorder it today? Do I receive it always on the 14th?

No, you will incur a 1-2 week delay before it is shipped, hence you may receive by from the 21st October onwards.

You can always send it to me :) I can also perform non-DOA assessments as well, if you like.

Ask a neighbour to look out for the delivery? i think it goes back to the delivery depot with a note left at yours saying come and collect.

I see a lot of people asking what to expect on launch day in regards to queuing etc so i thought i would put up my experiance from the 4 launch.

(i'd also like to say i wasnt even getting a phone, i basically bullied my other half into queuing on launch day :D he would of waited weeks for new stock if it was up to him!... anyway!)

We pre-ordered for in store collection, from the Sheffield Meadowhall store.

We got there at roughly 6am, and after standing in the wrong queue for 20 minutes (o2 is across the way from apple so we just joined the first Q we saw :/) we got into the right one!

Apple had set up 2 queues down a service access type double door thing out of the shopping centre. one for pre orders, one for hoping to buy without pre orders.

we did queue for a very long time, i think it was after about 1pm that we eventually got in and got the phone! for every 5 or so preorders they let into the store, they let 1 person in from the other queue. They were taking a long time to get things sorted in store beause they were setting up all the contracts etc all at apple, something im not sure if they are doing this year

it was a long long wait... but like all apple launches it was an event! Starbucks were walking up and down the queues giving away free coffee, tea and biscotties. In the morning we got newspapers etc too. we made some friends in the queue too so talking to new people helped the time go past quicker!!

Part of me kind of wished they were doing the same again this year, because i would totally queue again.... but then im sad like that :p

Nice story :D

I'm getting one from an o2 store near my work and I can't imagine the residents their queuing up but I can't risk it and will no doubt turn up a couple of hours early.

I don't want to wait :(

More on this iPhone 4S Pre-order saga.

Just spoke to Apple again, at Apple Operations Europe, and she said that the Order Management team cancelled the order for my "own safety". Whilst she apologised for the inconvenience, she did say that she would give me something as a token of apology when I receive my current iPhone 4S order.

Meanwhile, the money hasn't been returned to my bank, but she said that it would be done either today or tomorrow.

 Having second thoughts about doing it now, I need to be at work for 12pm. I never thought I'd have to queue up for 7 hours in order to give someone £600.

I think the idea of setting up contracts on launch day isn't good. They should just do it over the phone when people get home.

Sounds like a right pullava. Do you have any idea what the safety issue is? I presume it's not an exploding battery ;)

Hope they put it right for you.

O2 where the ones giving out newspapers! Being in the wrong queue for a bit was beneficial at first... we got cartons of orange juice, pastries and newspapers! haha

I read a few times that the smaller stores were only allocated small amounts of stock. 5-10 units in some cases! so i think a general rule of thumb is that if you want it... be prepared to get up early!

For those on O2 who upgraded to the iPhone 4 on launch day last year and whose 18 month contracts are due to expire in December - have you heard that O2 are currently saying you are unable to upgrade early and have to wait until you are eligible for an upgrade (which would be November for Silver customers)?

If anyone has any update on this, it would be great if you could post it here.

I went onto MyO2 online yesterday and under fast track upgrades it said (after inputting an upgrade coded SMS'ed to me) that I can upgrade by paying £91.92. I didn't get the iPhone 4 immediately on release last year and still have til mid January for my 18 month contract to expire. I am a silver customer and spend £46 per month. Am sure I seen somewhere that you have to spend over £40 per month to be allowed to fast track upgrade. Apparently it is balance of line rental minus VAT and minus another 20%

Going to go for a 12 month contract this time :D

Apparently Carphone Warehouse are taking O2 upgrade pre-orders now so that you can collect in store on Friday (read it on the O2 forums)

Is everyone getting same message?

In my order status it says "Processing Item. Dispatched: Ships by Oct 14". Is this same for all UK orders?

Dispatched is the key word.

It was weird the way they did i, i dont know if other stores were the same.

They took 6 people (6 pre orders and one chancing it purchaser) from the queue and put us in the holding pen type area. i felt a but like a cow! This area was around the typical apple table thing... with 6 iphone 4's on. this was the first time anyone even saw the phone! one by one people were picked off to go sit with staff at a mac, running windows (snigger) to set up their contracts.

i imagine just paying for it outright was quicker. so if they arent going down the contract route this year i cant imagine you'll be queuing for as long as we were!

Ahh, cool. I'm starting to get worried, that's all! I've never done a through the night queue and I'd be pretty disappointed to spend all that time only for them to open up and say 'sorry, but...'.

Yes mine status says the exact same thing. I ordered the minute the online Apple store opened on Friday morning.

It turns out that the team does not give explicit reasons. :/ I just hope that they don't cancel this order now, it would royally screw me over.

I hope too; thanks :)

Reads like people are getting way too stressed over the pre ordering.

It's all part of the experience and adventure.

As I'm a payg customer I'm not eligible to get one yet and my nearest apple store is a long train ride away I'll be waiting in the wings to read the for certain threads about it's pros and cons !

In the mean time bring on iOS 5 !

To all those who are going to be in line waiting I hope the weather is good and you enjoy the ride.

Here's my problem: I'm italian, but i've got my friend who lives in UK and comes back in italy for a week on the 23rd. I'd like to buy the phone in UK because cost me less and there are less taxes.
Could he preorder form the online store and set the shipment to Italy?
