In my order status it says "Processing Item. Dispatched: Ships by Oct 14". Is this same for all UK orders?

Dispatched is the key word.

You would think the fact it shows the word 'Dispatched' that it has dispatched, but if you hold your mouse on the blue arrow to the right of 'Processing items' it explains the process:

We've received your order: We've received your order and will begin processing it soon! You can modify your order details once the order enters the processing status.

Processing Items: We are processing your order now. You can modify your order details through online Order Status, or by contacting Apple Online Store Customer Service.

Preparing for Shipment: We are preparing your item(s) to dispatch. While your order is being prepared, we are unable to modify your order details. We will email you a Dispatch Notification with complete order details once your order leaves our warehouse.

Shipped: Your order has dispatched! You will see track shipment button in 24 hours on Orders page.

Complete We've billed you for Apple services only. You will not receive a physical item.

At the moment the UK orders still seem to be at the 'Processing items' stage, and haven't actually been dispatched yet (which is why we can still change the shipping address). As I posted earlier, I think the UK orders will ship from the UK so we won't see 'Preparing for shipment' until Wed/Thu.

same here...

That is what it has been saying since Friday. It doesn't mean it's dispatched, it means it will be shipped by the 14th.

I'm planning on going to my local O2 store on Friday morning first thing for a white 64gb. The store is opening at 8am, and I plan to get there between 6am and 7am to join the queue.

Do you reckon that would be early enough?

I am upgrading from a 3GS, so didn't experience the iP4 day one queues. I just strolled in at 4.45 on 3GS launch day and picked up a white 32gb. The shop was empty, and I was in and out in about 10 minutes. I somehow think the same won't be true of this Friday! ;)

They say dispatched as soon as you order them.

That is a static word, not dynamically updated. Just part of the web page

Don't forget it says Dispatched: <-- colon

Expect that to say Dispatched: 12th October at some point. The word dispatched isn't a status in its self.

Think of it as Dispatch Status : Current Status = Ships By 14th October

How did you find out they are opening early?

I was going to pitch up 2 hours before opening where I am. Hope thats enough :(

Any ye from Belfast or would anyone know, whats the odds of getting a 4s on friday from the apple store in Belfast? scale of 1-10?

I understand I would have to queue but IS it a case that anyone that hasnt spent a night of campin outside the place can kiss the chance of getting one goodbye?
Also how many units do they get into each store....?

Just wondering would I have any chance of getting one, cuz I would have a nice drive up there to get one being from the republic.

Any help wud be great
cheers

I would say 10, as long as you get there by 9am at latest, I would recommend 6am or 7am though :D

2 hours should be fine, give them a call wed/thur to check if they are opening early! :D

Absolutely no offence to anyone, but i would be embarrased to camp out for a mobile phone.

Why don't people just pre-order

i do that every year, and have it delivered to my door.

:apple:

i rang up vodafone to make sure my order went through fine and they said that it went through okay and i would be able to pick up my iPhone white 16gb from my local store on friday or saturday but i will get a text to say when!:p

How did you find out they are opening early?

I was in the store on Saturday (my mrs was buying an iPhone 4). I asked if there were planning an early opening for the launch, expecting them to say no, but they said yes, 8am. That's the Swindon store - can't say it will be the same for all the others.

They said that for the iP4 launch, the queue started at about 2am. No way I'll be doing that!

If there's no queue when I get there, I'll just go and get a coffee while I wait. I'm not standing there on my own! :)

ok cool. Yeah, i'm not getting up at 2 am holy smokes. I'll struggle getting up at 6 if the store opens at 8 :D

Ahh man, sorry.

I get mine from Apple, get a good resale value for being unlocked and it's delivered to me.

:apple:

Wish I could buy it out of contract. Although o2 will unlock it for free when ever you want as long as you see out your contract.

Was thinking maybe when the 5 comes out (an if I like it) selling the 4s unlocked an use the money to get the 5 out of contract.

TWO AM!!! What the............. I don't think there is a significant amount of people until after 6am though, when I say significant I mean enough to make you worry they might not have enough for you!!! :D

I'm with you on that one, would be nice to be first that way you don't have to worry about stock, but would feel a bit weird being the only person in the queue for a while!!!

The problem, is that some people will have sold their existing iPhone in order to partially fund the 4S. There is a risk that if you dont queue on day of release, they will sell out and you'll have to wait several weeks for the supply chain to re-stock properly.

Although I started advertising my iPhone 4 for sale before Apple started pre-orders on the website, it didn't sell until they effectively sold out for 14th October delivery.

It's a fine line between selling your iPhone close enough to the launch so that you're not without a phone for too long, and selling too close to the launch that you risk not getting the funds in time.

So, no offence taken, but I'll have to queue at an Apple store on Friday morning, loads earlier than I would like.

i was exceptionally lucky this year, i sold my phone on ebay 2 hours before the ' lets talk iphone' invite went out. :apple:

I can't, I'm flying Japan on Saturday. I'd like to have the phone for my trip (something to play with on the 12hr flight :D).

Here's my problem: I'm italian, but i've got my friend who lives in UK and comes back in italy for a week on the 23rd. I'd like to buy the phone in UK because cost me less and there are less taxes.
Could he preorder form the online store and set the shipment to Italy?

No. each online apple store only allows delivery to the country they operate in/for.
But, if he's not visiting you until 23rd Oct, he can get it delivered to his UK address and then bring it to Italy with him. As he's traveling intra-EU he/you won't pay duty/taxes.

If I had known there was no reserve and collect with Apple then I would have sold it a week earlier, as I only sold last week and funds won't be clear till tomorrow or wednesday. I would have gone sim free had I known.

I don't mind that O2 are not doing pre orders, but its just the lack of information they 'can' give out that is frustrating.

I have seen people can pre order O2 upgrades through Carphone Warehouse, I might give it a try tomorrow when I have the cash to pay fast track upgrade fee + handset cost.

The message:

Dispatched: Shipped by October 14th

is a little strange, however it's only really the same as ordering something else not in stock which on the store pages says:

Dispatched: 1-2 weeks

So it doesn't mean it is dispatched, just the the estimated time until it is dispatched. Hope that makes sense.

By the way I've pre-ordered my first ever iPhone (a black 16GB).

Me too - last time I queued was for the 3GS. Also plan to trade in my iP4on O2 recycle. Have already set it up online (price valid as long as sent in within 14 days in case the price drops in store on Friday ;)

Am assuming white will be popular - just hoping the 64gb is less popular!

I was waiting on funds to transfer into my bank account on Friday therefore I could not order it online. Since I don't want to wait 1-2 weeks, I now have to wait 1 hour 30 minutes at the Glasgow store for it.

"Shipped by" is an Americanism that typically translates as "will arrive by" i.e. the shipping process should complete by the date stated.
