Tried to pre-order through The Carphone Warehouse for the o2 variant today but wasn't successful. Anyone have any luck?

yep sending mine, its actually cashinmyfone.com who are part of envirofone, getting £283.52, was going to go ebay but after fees probe won't have got much more as they seem to have been going for around £315

When do Apple take payment for the iPhone 4S? My bank balance looks like it's around £699 less than before but nothing is showing on my mini-statement.

they have put a hold on your funds, and will take the money when the phone is dispatched, likely weds/thurs.
its a calling order for £699 which means the company has hold of the money, and can decide to cancel or go through with it, imagine them holding a knife to your throat.... its up to them...do they or dont they.. except your pain will be more of a relief, and it doesnt show through because they havent actually taken it yet.
If something's been taken out of your account and it's affected the balance but is not showing on the mini statement, check again tomorrow because it probably will show up then.

Just an opportunist. There wont be a shortage of stupid people prepared to pay over the odds to get one easily. More fool them than the guy for selling them to be honest.
Go on apple website it states when you purchase on their website max 2 per customer

they might be. but im half way through a contract with orange, which is why im buying an iphone outright.
i was told in the shop on saturday to ring them up and i can get a micro sim sent out to me. but now some guy has said i have to pay £20! and some other charge of changing my tariff over from a BB one to an iphone one!
I heard loads of people last year had issues, to the point where some Orange reps didn't know what the Micro SIM was, saying people had to take out a contract only to get them...
yeah thats what he was saying, he said something about you only get them with iphone 4's . i was like... last year you gave them out for free so people could transfer.
he seemed pretty clueless tbh, i had to explain a few times that i have a contract... i just want a micro sim so i can activate it when i get my iphone and start using it!
