Hi guys, new member here...

I would find it incredible if Apple offered SIM-free versions only online and not instore. In fact, it's probably more beneficial to them to sell as many SIM-free versions as they can. I think whoever started this rumour is just scare-mongering.

Think he's havin pre launch jitters , it's almost impossible for them not to tbh, wouldn't sell enough on contracts alone

Ordered mine at 9am on the 8th through Orange, bloke said it could take up to 30 days :-(

Anyone else ordered through Orange?

hello guys

hello guys

I have preordered two 32g , i wanna ask , can i go n buy two more in store? I need them as gifts , do they allow this , or they will ask for my address when buying in store ?

well i ordered mine over the phone, and i was told that i would receive a text when it was despatched!

----------

just read that this iPhone is one of the most preordered phones of all time!
not bad considering all the nonsense about it about 30 mins after the keynote last week!

Thats because the rumor mill and Chinese whispers with a sprinkle of conspiracy theory added whipped up the public.

On keynote day the fiction became reality and people were understandably disappointed for a short while. After that initial period people then saw the iPhone 4s for what is it. The next step forward.

I've been reading the threads from people here in the Uk and some are experiencing issues with either being able to pre order the unit , having gripes with certain carriers and are stressing out with worrying if their going to be able to que outside a shop and get one.

In the uk it's only available to people wanting to upgrade on their contract or are signing a new contract. Here it's not available on pay as you go yet which is frustrating for people like me who buy them this way. An apple store is not local and the lead time is 2-3 weeks !

Think I'll be updating the iOS on my iPhone 4 and read the new threads by recent owners of the ip4s giving their opinions in the handset.

I saw yesterday the PAYG prices on 3 but can't find them again. They were at the same price as buying direct from Apple but if it was me, I'd get it from Apple for obvious reasons.

Will be interesting for iP4 owners like yourself especially with the Siri/iP4 (jailbroken) rumours.

Just ordered my 4S O2 upgrade through Carphone Warehouse this morning, delivery on the 14th!!! :D:D:D:D

Was looking forward to the queue, but not the fact that I may queue for hours in vain!!! ;)

Depends which model - these are the latest times you will need to start queuing in Newcastle:

BLACK WHITE

16GB 4:17am 3:58am

32GB 3:46am 3:07am

64GB 4:35am 4:06am

If anyone wants to know what time they will need to start queuing at any different Apple store, I have all the times here so let me know.

How about the Trafford Centre - Manchester?

So are O2 micro sims and they have far better customer service. ;) :D

O2 sent me a micro sim last year after I registered interest in an Iphone 4 (which I ended up not buying due to the white one not being ready) - just activated it last night, all done online. Just need a 4s now! :apple:

I like your sense of humour, shame others don't get it.

Queuing at stupid o'clock for the latest Apple release is one of those shared experiences that should be on everybody's '100 things to do before you die' list. Once is probably enough, but it's an one-off experience you don't forget.

:D
I could probably think of 100 more things before joining a q for a phone at that time in a morning... But each to their own.. This isn't a dig, I just find it a little OTT... I have to wait till December, so I do t have a choice!

They are pretty good about that. I remember last year I just walked into a store a few days before I got my iPhone 4 at launch and they gave me a free micro sim. I think they may have doubled checkd to see if I was an O2 customer. The sim was already activated by the time I got the iPhone 4. :D

I think a lot of "tech commentators" were expecting a substantial upgrade to the iPhone 4, and they're disappointed because the 4S, as good as it is, doesn't perhaps reach that level. (I'm leaving aside all the kooks who are mad because it doesn't have a 10 inch screen, date with the hot actor or actress of your choice, and a fully working startrek replicator with free "Tea. Earl Grey. Hot" recipe pre-loaded).

However, for someone with a 3GS like me, or an earlier phone, I think the 4S represents an absolutely stellar upgrade, and I think that's pretty much what Apple planned. I think they've moved onto the same kind of "tick tock" release cycle for these devices that many other electronics supplies have adopted for releases.

I think this a problem with journalism in general, only looking at the external and not the internal ;)

the iphone 4s is essentially a completely new phone.
1. Longer life battery
2. New attenae system with new internal aerial
3. 8mp camera with f2.4 aperture
4. A5 - Dual core CPU

I love the metal and glass construction, and was praying that apple wouldn't go back to the plasticy 3G series.

I think we know what the iphone 5 wil have next year in addition:
1. 3.7" screen (instead of 3.5")
2. slightly slimmer, but still keeping the glass and steel construction, with some kind of re-designed back
3. A6 - quad core cpu (following on from Ipad 3 which wll get the A6 early next year)
but thats for another year, another time.

I think the 4s is a great upgrade to the 4 and its what I have been looking for

If they are arriving on release day, then there is no way Apple has left it this late to ship them from China. Must be coming from Europe or already in the UK.
If places like Carphone Warehouse are taking orders this week and promising delivery for Friday then they must have a lot of stock in the UK, I guess Apple would have the same.

I still find it baffling how so many people complain about the specs of the 4S and te fact they feel cheated by Apple and were expecting a lot more. There was a lot of hype all of it based on rumours which seem to have got peoples expectations up.

I think Apple made the decisions they did regards the specs based on a tech and business point of view. It's silly to expect Apple or any company to have a revolutionised product every single year. If you look at the Samsung Galaxy phones they have hardly changed at all yet no one seems to complain about them.

I realise Apple has a reputation for design and style but people need to give them a break. If you're not happy about the 4S then don't get it and wait for the next model which I'm sure will be a major upgrade.
