I think we know what the iphone 5 wil have next year in addition:
1. 3.7" screen (instead of 3.5")
2. slightly slimmer, but still keeping the glass and steel construction, with some kind of re-designed back
3. A6 - quad core cpu (following on from Ipad 3 which wll get the A6 early next year)
but thats for another year, another time.
I think the 4s is a great upgrade to the 4 and its what I have been looking for

I wouldn't expect to see an A6 chip in anything until 2013. The A5 and even the A4 are perfectly capable of beating the competition now and for some time yet.
Doesn't make sense to spend money going A6 if theres no business requirement to do so.
