I renewed with O2 a few months ago, they gave me £40 one time credit and I went on their £15.50/m contract for 12 months which made it out to work out £12.17/m over the 12 months. Other than that, I was going with Tesco (same towers). I also checked GiffGaff and even got one of their SIMs.

Yeah, my mate ordered with them and was told definitely friday and theyd give him £10 for every day its not there! I think I'm with the wrong network..

Did he join as a new customer or upgrade? What time was it he ordered?

I'm wondering if new customers are the ones that know they're getting it Friday and those that upgraded are being told 'within 30 days'?

Anyone that pre-ordered with orange breaking that trend?

I'm a new customer with Orange and I have no idea when my order will dispatch. I ordered around 8:40 on Friday.

Actualy, I'm an ex-engineer with Orange, but as my contract was cancelled years back, I'm classed as a new customer.

Upgrade.. I upgraded and was just told within 30 days, and even that had to be dragged out of them.

I upgraded with Orange on Saturday and was told by the salesman over the phone that it was showing as 'in stock' to him at that point, and that I should receive it on Friday.

The text afterwards had the 30 day line though.

I don't know, I'm not especially expectant of day one delivery, given that I wouldn't have been among the first to order. I will say, however, that the 4S was pretty easy to get hold of at the carrier stores on the day of release, even without an existing contract. I bought mine at the Apple Store, but I know several people who just strolled into the carriers and walked out with a phone under a new contract.

I was the same, my O2 contract ended last year and was letting it just run, for £35 I was getting 600mins, unlimited texts and 500MB data. But, there is no 3G around my area...at all.... so I got sick of O2 and moved to a Sim Only 30 day rolling plan on T-Mobile. For 15 every 30 days I get 350mins, 500 or 5000 texts (can't remember) and 1.5GB data! Annnnd, theres pretty decent 3G coverage here.

Why I didn't do this years ago cause I always buy the iPhone from Apple I don't know!

I just got tired of O2 not actually upgrading their network in my area, T-Mobile seem to be going nuts trying to get mass coverage!

So in my opinion ;) I would move from O2.

I'm in pretty much the same situation. I've been on the same O2 plan I got with the original iPhone five years ago when they were the exclusive provider. I pay £35 per month for 500 minutes, 600 texts, unlimited data and visual voice mail.

My contract ran out a couple of years back but due to the unlimited data and visual voice mail I stuck with it as I couldn't find anything comparable but cheaper plus I was kind of lazy to change it.

I also had free Wi-Fi at BT Open Zone and The Cloud hot spots as part of my O2 mobile plan. Now I have BT fibre optic broadband at home I get free Wi-Fi at BT Open Zone hot spots as part of that anyway so it mostly nullifies that.

O2 3G coverage at home and at work is OK but not the greatest. I think with the iPhone 5 it's not time to change. I'm going to contact O2 and get my PAC code and probably switch to T-Mobile SIM only. They have unlimited data plans with much better minute and text allowances for less then what I pay now. Hopefully T-Mobile and Orange combined will also give me better signal coverage.

If I can eventually switch to EE's LTE 4G network all the better. If not I will still pay less for more anyway on the normal 3G service plan.

I'm a new contract with orange, got my pre-order within 20 mins of the website becoming available, and I've been quoted up to 30 days by every cs agent. I have an order status of "order status Order Being Readied For Dispatch". And all of the correspondence I've received has been ambiguous at best.

I have a friend who has upgraded, and he hasn't been provided with an order number or any way of tracking his order. He has also been told "within 30 days".

That same friend works at orange collections, and knows as a fact that orange are not garenteeing anyone a launch day delivery.

Some people were notified in error that they would receive their phone on 21st but a text was sent out to all orders asking people to ignore this as it was sent in error. I received the second text asking me to ignore the first, so phoned cs to find out more (as I hadn't received the first, and I was confused!).

a question

hi guys, just a quick question...I am currently through 1 year of a 2 year contract with orange UK for my iphone 4

Looking at possibly upgrading early to the 5, does anyone have any idea of the amount it will cost to make this happen?

thanks

It costs the amount remaining of your contract.

For example, a £25 p/m contract with 12 months left would cost £300 to upgrade early.

You seem to have had a lot more luck with whats happening though. The only text and email I got was the mistaken ones saying I'd get it tomorrow. And that tracking number doesn't work. The only indication I've got that it went through ok is that on my account online it now says my next upgrade is 14/09/2014. I just have to hope every things ok!

Have they taken the money for the phone or sent you any sort of email/text confirmation yet?

I've pre-ordered through CPW over the phone. I have been told over the phone that my order has been processed fine, the contract has been set up and i have passed the credit check, but i am yet to get any confirmation in writing.

I also got a text saying that they had tried to contact me to finalise my pre-order and sort the contract out after it had already been done.

I'm also getting my phone sent to the local shop instead of my home address. I hope they still deliver it to the shop on Friday and let me know what time I can pick it up.

I pre-orderd through CPW and my new contract is not yet on my o2 account.

When did you make your pre-order?

I'm also getting my phone sent to the local shop. When I was doing so, they tried to encourage me to get it delivered to my home address instead because delivery to store "is not guaranteed to be available to collect on release day". I think most likely it'll be fine though.

Off-topic to lukefinch: Awesome to see someone else from South Yorkshire on this forum btw :)

Hi guys, its nice to see many of the names back here again.
I have a question please, i preordered the iphone 5 32gb from the UK apple store and it will be delivered on the 21st. The thing is that i had to travel to the States and won't see the phone before the first week of October... My question is, in case there is any problems with the phone (knowing Apple's history: screen, antenna, etc...) that i discover after i come back, will i be able to return it to Apple and get a new one knowing that the 14 days period would have been exceeded??? Are those things covered by Apple's warranty? Thanks a lot...

If you do it will be most likely a new replacement you get seen as no one/not many people will have swapped their iPhones.

Is anyone else currently on GiffGaff with their iPhone? I think I'm going to switch to the £12.90 Sim Only rolling contract with 3, as it seems GiffGaff will be changing their pricing so that only the £15 bundle above will have unlimited internet, plus we have no idea when the nano sims will be released.

I will be providing nano sims on launch day, stay tuned for details.

Still, GiffGaff are changing their pricing scheme. I'm not really in a rush, my iPhone won't arrive til the 2nd October - 8th apparently, I'm thinking that changing to Three will probably be the best move for me.

Has anyone else been into the three shop and seen the handout on tariffs and pricing?

Confused as the pricing for new customers with the iPhone 5 32gb, worked out cheaper over the 2 years than being an existing customer?

I.e. new custom - £89 phone, £37pm
Old custom - free phone, £41pm

Any idea why this is or is it merely one shop getting their figures wrong?

Giffgaff business model is finished as the days of unlimited cheap mobile Internet are over unless you pay a premium and with the company being on O2 backbone means no LTE on your iPhone 5 until 2014 at best. ;)

On the other hand the best PAYG deals with unlimited mobile internet are with Three who will have LTE from 2013. :D

Thanks for your reply. I am just worried about that, but fingers crossed I havent had any problems with the ipad 3 and iphone 4s orders before. So i hope the iphone 5 will be in perfect condition.

Yep, same! I've been on the same £35 a month since June 2008 with the orignal iPhone! Mine ran out I think last September, but I always buy the iPhone from Apple - makes no sense really to keep the crappy contract I'm on. (Like you, I was just too lazy to change it!)

So from tomorrow when the new T-Mobile sim card arrives I'll be on a 30 Day rolling plan, one that I can cancel at any time for £15/30days getting 350 mins, a lot of texts and an impressive 1.5GB data.
I honestly think it's a fantastic deal, certainly love that I can cancel at any time and love the 1.5GB! But the biggest thing for me is I can finally get 3G at home, town and work. It means I can actually *use* my iPhone away from home!

Like you say though, I will miss the visual voicemail even though I probably get less than 20 a year!!

I could never get my BT OpenZone Cloud thingy working...ever...can't get it working with my BT account either... so thats not a factor for me :)

Apparently people say that the Hullomail app from the App store works pretty well regards visual mail and the basic features are free. You have to pay and upgrade for advance features. Also several people have mentioned here that visual voice mail is coming to T-Mobile/Orange soon.

As for getting the Wi-Fi hot spots to work with the O2 iPhone plan it isn't straight forward and can be a pain but it does work. The only thing is you have to set it up again everytime you get a new phone whether it's a warranty replacement or a new model. It's also temperamental sometimes.

As for Wi-Fi hot spots access with BT broadband you just need to enter your BT broadband username and password when the BT Open Zone page pops up when you try to access the Internet at an appropriate hot spot. It's a lot easier then the O2 mobile option.
