3 guys, what's the process to transfer number from microsim to nanosim?

If you have a contract with them, go in store, they ask for D.O.B. and Postcode.
Then they'll give you the sim and adapter and then you just wait for it to activate, you'll know it's activated as your old one will just stop receiving 3G.

Got my 3 nano sim activated. After placing my pre order with Apple, went into a 3 store (as i'm already mid contract with them) and they just provided a nano sim and adapter.

Waited for it to transfer over and am up and running ready to go when the 5 arrives.

Hopefully they ship it a bit early, but still says awaiting shipment at the mo.

3 have recently rolled out DC-HSDPA across the network so i'm glad i'll be able to make use of this on the 5, as I use tethering for bandwidth intensive things like large downloads as my adsl connection is so dire. (Hooray for unlimited data plans) and I think with DC-HSDPA I should be able to get up to 40mb

And if I don't have a contract with them?

are you switching providers?

I picked up mu nano sim on friday in a 3 store and they switched everything for me... within 4 hours, i was using it :)

Nope, staying with 3 PAYG, if they'll do it in the store, that'll be cool

And if I don't have a contract with them?

Ring up your current provider and get a PAC code, then ring three up tell them the PAC code and they will transfer it over for you.

Edit - Nevermind, thought you were switching

I'm sure you'd need the PAC code if you were going from a pay monthly sim to a PAYG sim on the same carrier?

That would never be the case. The porting system does not allow you to move a number between accounts on the same network.

You can usually go from PAYG to Pay Monthly (or vice versa) on the same network, but such a move would be controlled by the company's internal procedures and policies.

It's generally impossible to move a number from one Pay Monthly contract to another (on the same network), the workaround being to port to a PAYG SIM on a different network for a few days.

I got my nano sim yesterday from 3, it activated about 5 hours after receiving.

Anyones status changed from "Preparing For Shipment"?

If you pick one up instore, do they activate it instore for you (transfer account from current Micro SIM to Nano SIM), or do you need to do some sort of SIM swap at home later?

The wife and I have been with o2 for years and years, now we have both jumped ship for t-mobile/ee.

Here is why:

1 - Tmobile users also can use oranges network so should be the best coverage available
2 - 4g - Tmobile is under EE. EE launch their 4g service in the coming weeks.
3 - O2 and Vodaphone won't have 4g until end of 2013
4 - Iphone 5 won't work on oranges and vodaphones 4g network even when they do launch it
5 - O2 are incompetent, their web site pre-order section is broken and you cannot get through to them on the phone!
6 - Price. Just ordered 64gb iphone 5 for £269 and 36ppm from Tmobile, o2's pricing just way to high for the equivalent deal (even for existing customers who want to upgrade). Cheaper to jump ship.

To top it off, our contracts expired last month and nearly every day I have had pushy o2 sales people calling to try to get us to renew for another 12months - offering GS3's etc etc. I explained, no thanks ill wait until the iphone 5 is out and the cheeky sod even had the nerve to say "It probably wont be until early 2013 - its all rumors!".

O2 im glad ive seen the last of you.

I just spoke to O2 business who tried to inform me that 'no-one has the nano-sims yet-O2 won't have them until Wednesday, when they have to be put on the system to be available on Friday'.

I'm really annoyed & ready to ditch O2-they do not care because I'm not on a contract that is lucrative to them.

This shouldn't be causing so much frustration. I went through the same process when getting an iPhone4. The Peterborough Catherderal Sq. branch (now closed) had a pile of them on the stairs and they just handed one over. Seems that this time that's just too hard to do.

Am unable to get through on the phone to Stamford or Peterborough (queensgate) to see if they'll release one.

Switching networks seems like it might be an easier process.

They transfer your old micro sim number to the new nano sim number in-store, but it takes up to 24 hours. They give you the nano sim to microsim adapter so you are still able to use the iPhone 4/4s.

I went in store at around 2pm yesterday gave them my D.O.B and postcode, they gave me a nano sim and an adapter, I went home and at around 7pm my phone lost 3G signal, took out the microsim put the new nano sim in the adapter and into my 4S.

Happy Days.

I'm getting the same deal!

There was me thinking I was all ready to go for Friday..

I signed up to a 30 day rolling contract on 3 and got my new nano sim in the post.

I've sold my current 4 on ebay and need to post so i thought I'd go and give my PAC code to 3 to port my number and then all i'd have to do on Friday it slip in the nano sim and i'd be ready to go..

Called 3, and they said I had to activate my new sim.. when he tried to look up the sim card he couldnt get back the information on it.. seems its not coming up on their system.. now he's had to escalate and will get back to me tomorrow!

got a feeling he gonna have to send me out a new sim

I am not sure, I just follow the 3 blog which provides updates about network upgrades.

It would be worth calling their Customer Services though.

Just called the O2 store in Cardiff (queen street) they have them in and I'm good to go get one. On my way now, will report on my success later.

Think you're wrong on point 4 regarding Orange.
Well they will be in the same position as TMobile

Fortunately my Vodafone contract is about to expire this week and I am more than happy to announce that I've just signed a brand new SIM only contract with Three which include All You Can Eat data.

For 15 quid a month I received a nano sim and set of adapters so I can use my allowances right away on my iP4 until the 5 will be released. I've happily moved my number to Three as well.

Yaay

Being pedantic, he's right, but by accident. Orange and T-Mobile customers won't have access to the 4G network unless they migrate to be an EE customer. O2 and Vodafone can't offer an iPhone 5 compatible network unless Ofcom let them run it in the same space as their 3G network (2100MHz) and we'll be waiting for 3 to launch their 4G network when EE hand over the excess spectrum that they sold to 3 (Sept 2013 currently).
