Last year the UK iPhone 4S was already in a warehouse waiting for the night before to be posted. The difference was that it turned to r
Prepared for shipping the on Thursday not Saturday.

That is what is strange. If the UK phones don't start shipping tonight then they must be in the UK but that early change is strange.

Delivery carrier for T-Mobile is definitely UK Mail. Was confirmed to me on the phone earlier. The guy was actually pretty knowledgeable. I was asking him about travel Internet bundles as I'm off to Germany on Sunday and he informed me that i'll be asked what bundle i want when i try to connect to the internet over there but also gave me a bit of cracking info that T-Mobile's parent company Deutsch Telekom's 4G network was already up and running over there and I would have the option to connect to it. Will be good to give it an early run out to see what speeds it hits. Also said that the 5 is good to go on their HD voice over 3G here.

So they think you'll get it by Sunday, if so when did you preorder?

Pre-Ordered my iPhone 5 from O2 on Friday. According to their Twitter-based Customer Services they are planning to deliver all Pre-Orders on the 21st.... Fingers crossed! Although my order is still stuck at "In Progress"... anyone else seeing this on their O2 order, or is it just me?

We're all stuck in processing and will be till Wednesday at earliest. The phones will be in locked cages in a uk warehouse with car phone warehouses courier of choice (DPD or Yodel) then a couple of days before they will all be sent to local depots and delivered hopefully on friday.

So picked up my Nano sim at O2 in Merry Hill. Will transfer over now. Came with adaptor for standard & micro sim so all good.
Also picked up this case from Planet-mobile (opposite). It was the only iPhone 5 case they had. It will do for now until there is a little more choice. I can't stand the thought of going naked! I'd be worried it would get marked.

I'm debating whether to go to an o2 shop on Friday morning to buy on contract or whether to go to an Apple Store and buy offline. I've got the funds...

Anyone in London debating the same question? If so, do you have any stores in mind? Right now I'm thinking Tottenham Court Road o2 shop...

Did anyone ever work out why O2 were acting as an agent for CPW this year? Did O2 fall out with Apple or something?

Oh, and O2 say are sending mine with UK Mail or DHL, which I'm crossing my fingers for because they both deliver really early to me!

I walked into O2 in the Trafford centre today and asked about nano sims. I was promptly handed one in a packet and told to call up Friday to get it swapped. No sim adaptor though

Did you open the packet to check that there is no adaptor?

Why would you take out a contract if you can buy the phone outright?

Hey, Jinjin... Three nano sim activated now. Hope you get yours sorted soon

Great my nano sim is active now too. Called 3 and gave them my PAC code and my number will be moved on weds.

Now I can post my iPhone 4 to my eBay buyer and then try and survive without a phone for 2 days lol

I just phoned T Mobile as Im worried about them saying 'within 30 days' for the preorders. The woman I spoke to there said that they have more stock of the iPhone 5's than any other provider and not to worry. If they are sure of this, and they do have stock, then surely they would be able to confirm rough delivery dates? Doesn't add up..

He said I'll definetly be getting it on
Friday. Could even tell me that it was uk mail that would be delivering it, scheduled for an am delivery and I'd get a text on Thursday confirming tracking number. I've already had a text on Saturday confirming that everything went through and checked my bank account to see the money for the handset has been taken. Pre ordered it at literally about 1 minute past 8 on Friday morning there. Was the first sale that operator had and reckoned it was probably the first 64gb they'd sold. They basically told me there and i'd get it on Friday as they weren't expecting demand of the 64gb to be high. Phones back up tonight to ask about the Internet abroad bundle and thats when he gave the the courier and am. The way he was talking was that they would get the phones from apple on Wednesday and send them out thursday. Reckoned they may have problems meeting delivery of all 16gb though as they weren't expecting initial stock to meet pre order levels. Never mentioned the 32gb. Guy was actually really forth coming with info.

That's a lie, they block it for every tariff that doesn't have it specified that its included, but is available as a chargeable add-on...

I'm on PAYG and have used tethering numerous times with no charge. I usually use it if I have a poor signal on my ipad. I tether, stick the phone on a windowsill and hey presto :)

Yep, last year my 4S changed to Prepared for Shipment and then to Shipped within an hour or two.

My guess is they are just picking the stock, packing them and putting them on pallets. Once your at that stage, you get the "Prepared for Shipment" status. After that they just sit there until Thursday evening, if I were to guess.

Why would you take out a contract if you can buy the phone outright?

Well, I was looking at the prices and I think it may work out about the same price over the lifetime of the contract if I go for one.

I'm getting a 64GB model, so that's £699. I will need an airtime deal, maybe £20 a month sim only. Over twelve months that's £240. Total cost of ownership £939. o2 have a deal which offers the phone for £399 on a 24 month contract at £26 a month. Total cost of ownership is £1024. That's only £84 extra but it offsets the additional £300 spend, allowing me to make it up over two years. If you take into account inflation and what have you, there's not much in it and there's a lower initial outlay which means less interest on the credit card and more liquidity for me (translation - I can buy other stuff!).

Now, where the o2 deal might really come into its own is if I decide not to upgrade after only one year. If I decide to stick with the 5 and forgo the 5s (or whatever it's called - 5s just doesn't look right to me, too much like SS which has some pretty dodgy cultural connotations!). If I decide to go that way, then the o2 deal works out much cheaper over two years than buying offline and using a sim-only deal.

thanks for the info.

Pre-ordered my 32GB iPhone 5 (Black) at 8:54am Friday morning. I have confirmed I will be getting one on Friday which I'm over the moon about, and today picked up a nano-sim from my local Vodafone store.

So....roll on Friday!

Everything Everywhere today said:
Orange and T-Mobile today announced they will offer iPhone 5 in the UK beginning Friday, September 21. Customers can pre-order iPhone 5 through all retail stores, via telesales and online at www.orange.co.uk/iphone5 and www.t-mobile.co.uk/iphone5. Orange and T-Mobile will allow iPhone 5 customers to connect to its fast HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA networks with Wideband Audio. EE will offer iPhone 5 on its 4G LTE network with Wideband Audio when it launches in the coming weeks.

iPhone 5 is the thinnest and lightest iPhone ever, completely redesigned to feature a stunning new 4-inch Retina display; an Apple-designed A6 chip for blazing fast performance; and ultrafast wireless technology—all while delivering even better battery life. iPhone 5 comes with iOS 6, the world’s most advanced mobile operating system with over 200 new features including: the all new Maps app with Apple-designed cartography and turn-by-turn navigation; Facebook integration; Passbook organization and even more Siri features and languages.

“We are thrilled to offer iPhone 5 to our Orange and T-Mobile customers and look forward to launching EE’s superfast 4G service in the coming weeks for iPhone 5 customers to enjoy all the phone’s amazing new features on our new network,” said Pippa Dunn, Chief Marketing Officer, Consumer, EE. “Anyone purchasing iPhone 5 on Orange or T-Mobile will also have the option to upgrade to EE’s 4G network as soon as it launches.”

Orange and T-Mobile customers will enjoy faster 3G thanks to the fact they will be on the UK’s biggest and best 3G and 2G network. iPhone 5 customers on EE will get access to 4G, delivering superfast mobile internet speeds, typically five times faster than the current average 3G speeds. EE’s pioneering new superfast 4G service will launch in the coming weeks and will be available in 16 major UK cities, covering 20 million people by Christmas. Customers of all three brands will be served by Britain’s biggest, fastest and most reliable network.

If Orange and T-Mobile iPhone 5 customers want to upgrade to the new superfast EE 4G service when it launches in the coming weeks – or at any point in their existing contract- then the process will be made as simple as possible. If their new EE plan is the same term and price per month or more than their existing plan, the move will be at no additional cost.

Thanks for the info, I ordered at 8am but it didn't go through for some reason, so reordered about 1:47pm (as that's when I got home) I ordered 64GB iPhone 5 however I haven't got any texts thoug,I got the confirmation emails though but that said within 30 days. The money hasn't left my bank but my online bank shows my current balance, but my availble balance is £269 less so I'm guessing it's processing. Hopefully as I'm getting 64GB I will still get it on release day! I am still pissed that the order didn't go through the first time though!

Everything Everywhere (T-Mobile and Orange) combined probably do as they are now the largest UK Network. However I doubt T-Mobile on their own do.

I guess that if you only need 1GB data then that calculation works. However you could save an extra £100 to £200 going 3 or GiffGaff.
