No and no.

You will need to buy from your network if you want to upgrade your contract.

But the Apple website states this, hence my confusion:

"We offer tariffs from O2, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 and Vodafone. So we can check your upgrade eligibility, help you choose the right tariff and activate your iPhone — all in the store."

I'd imagine if you go and queue up on the 21st, you'll be fine to go through that, but it doesn't sound like they'll do a reserve and collect, so the only pre order will be for the unlocked, non-subsidised version.

So I'm probably going to buy one of these. I'm currently with 3 in the UK....I'm not interested in LTE... I just want normal HSDPA+ and to make phone calls!

Any word on 3 providing nano SIM cards?

...and I guess the big question is will the iPhone 5 function on a non-LTE network.

Apologies if this has already been covered, I'm a bit late to the UK thread party!

That's pay and go, not pay monthly contracts.

I think you'll be able to upgrade in an Apple store, but as there is no pre-order and collect option, you'll have to queue.

Just been into my local Orange as I am with them at the moment, though out of contract. Basically as much idea as we have at the moment about what is going to happen.
One interesting thing, I asked about EE and whether if I got a new contract it would automatically transfer. He said it would be easy to transfer but what he DID say was that after transfer it would be another two years, so any time on Orange contract would not count towards time before out of contract if that makes any sense.
Really thinking about getting SIM free and getting ability to move around.
Live in small town so unlikely to get 4G before next year anyway, so see no point in staying with Orange unless they offer a really good deal!

Hi guys, I'm on a tesco sim only tariff at the moment. Any one heard from them with regard to nano sims?

Thanks

The cynic in me wonders whether he genuinely knew or whether he was giving an educated guess. It all hinges on how long it takes EE to launch. If it's only a matter of weeks after the iPhone 5, adding that onto the end of a contract doesn't make a huge difference. if it's a couple of months, it starts to become more of a consideration.

Personally, I miss the days of a 12 month contract and would happily pay more up front for the phone to get one of those with the same tariffs.

Why increase the 16Gb to £529 and leave the rest at old prices! such a piss take!

16GB is the most popular model which means they're just trying to gouge more from those users to fill up their bottom line. Really off-putting.

I remember the days when these things cost just over £300.

*sigh*

£70 extra and you can get 32GB, apple probably want people to do that :(, I'm leaning towards 32GB as well.

I think a lot of people didn't like that it was £100 to go from 16GB to 32GB (16GB increase) and from 32GB to 64GB (32GB increase), making the increase from 16 to 32 seem poor value.

Of course it will function on non-LTE as normal 3G phone.

Three.co.uk has already listed the Nano-sims as confirmed. http://www.three.co.uk/_standalone/Ready_for_Three_3

Really on the fence about preordering this tomorrow.

I am very interested in the LTE aspect of it but have no clue what EE is doing with price plans etc. I don't want to take on a 2 year contract with them and Orange/TMobile signal is dodgy where I am based.

EE should have been on top of this before launch.

According to their twitter ( @tescomobilecare ) an announcement on availability, nano sims and tariffs is incoming soon

From what i remember of the iPhone 4s launch the UK carrier tarrifs were not announced untuil the friady following the announcment.

If they stick with that it would seem that we wont know iPhone 5 tarrifs on contract until tomorrow. im going to head to Orange first thing to see what they say..

EE are going to be the only 4G network in the UK until 3 and then in a year or so O2 and Vodafone.

I could be wrong and I hope that I am, however I just feel they are going to milk for all its worth.

They may be able to milk those really determined to get 4G speeds straight away but if they really want to dominate they need to have a reasonable price to get people like me (wanting 4G but not able to afford really expensive contracts and willing to wait).

I might be wrong but if they did have reasonable price plans i'd swap from o2 to EE, if not i'll just stay with o2.

Thanks, I'm not on Twitter so that's really helpful. Will be interested to hear what they say.
