Just to try and reassure people that ordered from Apple and live in most parts of UK that have a 21st delivery here is what usually happens. Yep there made in China but are already here in the UK. I know the US is different but ours won't change to shipping until they are in Hinckley in the midlands....from past iPad and iPhone orders they are then sent via UPS or TNT on a standard delivery for the launch date. Can I guarantee it nope but I have worried in the past for no reason. I expect shipping to change to shipped anytime between now and Thursday for delivery on Friday.

1. Apple would have let us know by now as they did with the last iPad launch.

2. Carphone are now selling them sim free for Friday delivery too because the UK already has them sitting in warehouses waiting for us.

3.

If I'm wrong I promise I won't be going anywhere and you can take it out on me on Friday evening.

Hope that does reassure some of you even though I'm no John Gruber or J Darympole that can give you a simple yep!

Rob

Just switched my O2 number from my micro SIM to a nano SIM. I'd definitely recommend that you use the SMS service to swap as that is so much faster than the online one! Only took 4mins!

How do you do the sim swap via text this online doesn't seem to be working, although i used loads of times before and normally done within the hour.

Am in ardrossan what's are u ?

Im from Ayr, im not particularly worried about it, recieved the email to say it will be delayed, but im very dissapointed Apple cant get the phone to me day 1, considering its not exactly a rural, island or highland area i live

When i picked up my sim from O2 earlier they recommended doing via text as hearing bad things about the time it is taking to swap on the website.

Just text swap to 20220

a few texts later and a wait of about 45 minutes and all done

Edit: doh got beaten to it.

Well Orange have truly covered themselves in glory now.

Despite pre-ordering on Friday at 8.50 am, they have confirmed that lots of orders did o in fact get made, they have been doing a clean up, and my order was processed this morning. I will be looking at other ways of getting a phone asap so I can call them back and cancel. Absoluting fuming!!!

Be careful with phone insurance through your bank account. I have mine through Lloyds TSB and they have a £100 excess on claims relating to an iPhone. However it's a £50 excess on pretty much all other phones.

Sounds like Orange. I remember when I was with them and the only thing I remember being good about them was 'Orange Wednesdays' and that is to do with movie tickets!

I have no idea if I will get mine on Friday. Only ordered Sunday afternoon online as couldn't decide which way to do it!

Sorry to jump in here....

I'm finding this quite odd. I'm in Kilmarnock, so obviously just up the road from you. I have 2 phones ordered, both show Preparing for Shipment, and I've had no mail from Apple to suggest that there is any reason to doubt that they will be delivered on the 21st.

Thanks guys,
Text from nano sim or existing sim?

T-Mobile did the same with me. Ordered at 08:10 on Friday, phoned up Saturday afternoon and it had not been processed. They said a lot had been missed.

Ordered at 8:06am and im still processing as well, the way Apple sees Ayrshire, is like an island, but considering its only 40 mins from Glasgow is a complete joke! I recieved my iPad 3 day 1, so why on earth cant they get the iPhone to me this Friday i do not know, it better at least come on Monday!!

I have family in Prestwick/Ayr and my cousins been told itll be late too.

Anyone else order on the Friday with Orange? How likely is it we'll get our iPhones on Friday? Orange are being very hawkish on delivery dates (~30 days).

My Three nano sim arrived in the post :) Sorry about quality, it was dark and I digital zoomed alot on my IP4S :p

i ordered on friday and spoke to orange about an hour ago, ive been told they have already got stock and the phones for the first wave will be dispatched wed/thurs for delivery friday, it seems to me its very dependant on who you talk to, but the cs guy i talked to was very helpful and seemed to know what he was talking about. He was also in a call centre in the uk and not from india which meant it was very easy to talk to him. he said to give them a call tomorrow or thurs to request the tracking number, they are using uk mail for deliveries.

Ordered my nano sim from Vodafone on Friday (for free) through the live chat online and it arrived today, the whole process has been absolutely painless.

Looking forward to me black 32GB arriving on Friday!

I didn't order a phone from Apple, and am looking at contracts.

Found this table of all the UK contracts which is very useful: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AmEmNoLUjwpzdHVOTGNPcFlvTE83ME9UOC00bXhiVHc#gid=1

I would've gone with EE but since it isn't quite ready yet, I'm actually tempted by tesco mobile. One of the cheapest tariffs and only a 12 month contract which means I can re-evaluate in 12 months, and upgrade to 5S/get a cheaper SIM/find an LTE provider.

Think this might put a smile on the face of you T-Mobile customers worrying that they don't yet have stock. Just off the phone with them and my order is showing as 'dispatched to courier'! The girl panicked and put me on hold, when she came back on she said she was just checking with her manager as she thought they had made a major error in sending out stock early. She went on to say that even though it has been dispatched i would not be getting it before friday and the couriers have been instructed on this, she was also surprised to see that it was being delivered by royal mail. She gave me my 10 digit order number which starts with 02. I asked for a consignment number as royal mail don't send a text with delivery details, she said that it wasnt on her system yet but she would phone me tomorrow with it. She even wanted a minute to double check that it was definitely a iphone 5 i was getting and it is. Will keep you posted when the consignment number is given to me tomorrow and post a tracking pic.

Just out of interest is there any way to track it on the T-Mobile site using the 10 digit order number?

Ive phoned them, my order status is the same, showing as 'picked', the guy on the phone sounded surprised, put me on hold for a couple of minutes and basically said there is no chance that I would receive it on Friday, and that I would be lucky to receive it next week, it could even run into the week after that. (I ordered at 8am on the dot in Friday).

picked up nano sim earlier today, swapped sim via text about 2 hours ago, micro sim went dead and just popped nano sim in and everything works ok!

Cheers for the help fellas, iPhone 5 ready now!

I seem to have secured an iPhone 5 for launch day from Carphone Warehouse.

I'm a bit confused though. I ordered it to be delivered to my nearest store but, post order, I was taken to a screen that informs me I should wait two working days before collecting it! That's no good! I want it on Friday.

So now I'm considering altering my order to be despatched to my home address. The only problem with this is that I have to leave the house during the late afternoon for a couple of hours and the delivery could come at any time between 7:30am and 5:30pm. If I miss it I would have to go collect it at the depot which I assume wouldn't be open at the weekend.

First world problems indeed.
