Just rang Orange and apparently in processing, and will only hear via text the day before delivery. So will watch the phone like a hawk Thursday.

Vodafone nano-sim arrived this morning after ordering on Friday over the phone (the lad I ordered from was excellent, very clued up). New customer on a 30 day contract.

No adapter though. I ordered one from an ebay seller called computestore who was very slow to respond to messages and didn't send the adapter until today despite me ordering and paying for it on the 13th.

Would that defeat the object of a SIM card though, in any case?

No, possibly not I daresay. As long as the issuing network could assign a specific sim serial / identity against a particular mobile number, then I can't see the issue.

I was sort of assuming that the networks would perhaps have "batch" numbers of sims/unique serials allocated to them, and if the sim you tried to use wasn't one of theirs, it would simply tell you to "do one".

I'm just surmising, I'm in over my head when it comes to this sort of stuff, hence my original question! :p

Who do Three use for deliveries? Preying to the almighty one thats its not YODEL (probably the worst company in the UK)

Someone say DPD or DHL and its :D and hugs all round !

Ive been let to believe from a 3 CS guy that it would be DPD

DPD are not far behind Yodel, they are also terrible.

Don't take my word for it, look at their reviews online.

White 16gb. I don't understand why he said its impossible for t mobile orders to be delivered on Friday, when it sounds like other providers are saying its possible..

Well some users have been told there items have already been dispatched and will arrive on the 21st, I still need to phone and see what they say about my order!

I think you misunderstood what I was saying or maybe I misunderstood you - a SIM card is like a network profile and authentication card.

I ordered a 16gb white today through the Three website. Does anyone know if the delivery estimate of the 21st they're still giving is accurate?

I don't want to get my hopes up because I heard there was a huge back up of iPhone 5 orders everywhere so they would take two to three weeks? Can't see why Three would say Friday if they couldn't fulfil it so I'm hopeful.

Although I don't know the answer to your question, your comment about YODEL did make me smile, the numerous amount of issues I have had with them!

T-Mobile said the almost the same thing but they said 1-2 days before delivery, so I'm Gunnar be hawking my phone over two days!

Vodafone nano sim arrived today - ordered using the website contact us form on sunday, so pleased with that. Tried to sign up to 3 today but was foiled as work pay for my contract and my credit card isn't therefore registered to a residential address. Was referred to the business team, from who. I have been waiting for a call back since this morning. Not a good start, so may be staying with Vodafone at this rate.

Did Apple clarify what was happening with the lightning/30-pin adaptor that wasn't supposed to be included, but it said it was? I ordered at 7.59 and didn't order one as a result of that info...

I'm a total layman in the field but would assume that the batches are either registered or encoded into the serial, so that "foreign" networks know who to talk to when you roam onto them.

EDIT: Just to stress total layman, I have absolutely no idea what interaction there is with the network about/from the SIM specifically.

Agree, not much better but at least they have managed to deliver to my property before and not just make it up (as yodel did). I got a horrible feeling my Friday is going to be ruined by the courier. My iphone spends two day going across the world but cant make it 15 miles down the road from the depot :(

Fingers crossed!

Me too. YODEL have to be the worst courier around. Why companies still use them to transport anything around is beyond me.
Because the contracts they offer are cheap.
So they offer a poorer service.

This is actually a loop chain, try it. Makes perfect sense.

How do you do the sim swap via text this online doesn't seem to be working, although i used loads of times before and normally done within the hour.

Text swap to 20220 or something... it says in the pack. It then gives you instructions from there! :)

Sounds like there is a misunderstanding somewhere along the line....

So are you saying then, in your opinion, that sims are basically non-network specific, and if you laid your hands on a a nano-sim from somewhere, then you could in theory port/transfer your existing number onto it regardless of your network provider ie. 3/O2/Vodafone etc?

Just emailed my contact @ Apple! Hopefully they can do something to get it to me on Thursday (although I doubt it...) Haha... Last time I got 11 UPS 'Extreme Priority Shipment' Stickers on the box - and I didn't even know they existed!

t-mobile

looks like some are getting luck with t-mobile customer service reps... i keep getting incompetent reps treating me like some kind of idiot.

very frustrating.

Just read the first couple reviews on that site, are yodel really that bad!?

YES!!! They once delivered to me at 11:15pm! Luckily I was still up (as it was £250 earphones) and didn't have to deal with their AWFUL re-delivery service!

Basically, if you don't get it when they first try to deliver then there is a slim chance of you actually getting it!

Went into Carphone Warehouse today after I had an email saying they were starting pre-orders this morning.

It took them about 5 minutes to get my new contract sorted. I'm joining O2, where I'll be on a better deal for less than I was paying with Orange, so I'm happy.

They were shifting pretty quickly though. When they opened this morning they had 44,000 pre-orders available, by the time mine went through just before 1 they had 3,000 left. All that's left to do now is pick it up in-store on Friday.
