Just walked into a Three store (in Tunbridge Wells), they swapped my current sim over to a nano sim right there! Said it will take a few hours to go through.

They also DID give me a micro-sim adaptor to use in the 4S until the 5 came out!

I have an iPhone 4 and I'm currently on a Simplicity O2 contract.

I want to get an O2 Nano Sim, but there is no info on that yet...

I also want to get an iPhone 5 on launch day, but I don't know when pre-orders will start.

On the 21st, I need to leave town at like 1pm. Any idea how early iPhone deliveries have started in the past? Is there ever a "Before 1pm" shipping option?

I'm in a similar situation, i'm on o2 simplicity atm, but planning on pre-ordering a 64GB iPhone 5 tomorrow morning.

just back from the T-Mobile store in Cheapside, City of London. Totally clueless staff who think they will have the SIMs 'some time next week', both people working there looked suicidal tbh.

Have been contract free for the past 3 years now, so will again be buying the iPhone 5 unlocked direct from the apple store
Am currently with giffgaff, which runs on O2's network, so no chance of 4g anytime soon, but not too fussed about that for the moment
I would rather a cheap unlimited 3g+ data plan, then even a reasonably priced 4g with usage caps
I remember how much of a rip off 3mobile was when it was 1st launched (walled garden anybody? wow)
I got £400 for my 32gb 4s a couple of weeks ago which is a very decent return, and the reason why I don’t mind paying the large sum upfront for the new devices

-- Now to the nano sim dilemma --
Last time I went to the apple store, the rep explained to me that when you buy the iPhone they will also transfer your standard sim to a micro-sim, free of charge, and it is an instant process.
As long as it’s one the main networks sims, they can do this. I can almost guarantee that they will offer the same service for transferring to the iPhone 5's new nano sims on day of release.
giffgaff is not a one of the main networks, so Apple’s sim transfer process would not be available for giffgaff users.

There is much discussions on the giffgaff forums about transferring to the nanosim, and it has been discovered that most sims can be cut down manually to the nano sim size safely.
There are 3 generations of sim cards(standard, mini, & micro) if you have the old standard 1st generation of sim card, then this will NOT be able to be cut down to a nano sim. But the rest can. Most people now do have either a mini or micro sim version.
iPhone ZenVideo have a video showing you which sims are compatible, and how to cut it down. They also have a template you can print off, in order to help you accomplish this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ey43IqOk7_k&sns=tw

This will also apply to you if you use any of the other smaller networks, e.g Virgin Mobile, as they may not have nano sims ready to roll out straight away

Update - Just seen a tweet from 3 mobile stating they are offering nano-sims from today

--Pre-ordering the iPhone on Friday --
I probably won’t have access to a pc/laptop on Friday morning in order to order via a web browser, so I checked the apple store app, which has stated you can pre-order the iPhone from the app on the day. I’m not sure which will be the most reliable way to order! Hopefully apple can handle all the traffic and it will be a smooth process (fingers crossed)

--Which colour --
I’ve bought the white iPhone for the past 3 years, but this year I feel im going back to black.
The black version just looks so sleek and beautiful, as unlike before the device is all black
Also with the black bars being used on the iPhone 5’s screen for non 4inch apps, I feel the black iPhone hides these, as shown in apple’s presentation, whereas the white iPhone would highlight this.

I've had a scan through the thread (there is a lot to read) and I assume pre-orders will begin at 8AM tomorrow? Can anyone confirm this, not just with "it's what happened last year".

And here is my situation. I plan to pre-order the iPhone 5 tomorrow from Apple. I am on an Orange 12 month sim only deal which expires June 2013. Obviously I currently have a micro sim for my iPhone 4, anyone found out how to go about getting a nano sim from Orange and keeping it on my current contract? And if they will charge for it?

A little strange that the keynote shown O2 as having LTE support in the UK when in fact they do not (yet)

Any predictions as to when it'll (iPhone 5) be available for those wanting a contract? (no pre order)

I'm sure it didn't? When it showed us LTE it was EE in the uk...

I hope the report from earlier in this thread, That 3 will only allow pre-ordering in store, for collection on the day, Is incorrect.

Anyone remember what 3 was like last year? I bought mine sim free last year from Apple.

I'm really hoping to order online from 3, For delivery to work on the Friday (or collection after work).

Can you recycle a locked phone? I've got 2months left on my contract, but rather trade my phone in now and pay the additional months.

1. Nothing official, only assumptions based on previous launches

2. Nothing from Orange yet

I'm pretty sure it did, very strange. O2 will have a 4G network by early next year, but the iPhone 5 won't support it.

Was it just luck that the EE 4G kick-off event was a day before the iPhone 5 announcement? I think not...

Near the end of 2013, by which time the next iPhone will have launched.
I think it will be sooner than that, partially online for testing before then end of 2012 and commercial roll out during 2013.

some info from the oxford street three store.

Contract/upgrade pricing is to be revealed 7am tomorrow.

Pre orders are taken in store from 9am - you cannot preorder by phone or online. A pre order guarantees a handset on launch day that you can pick up at any time at your leisure.

You dont have to pay the handset cost until the day you pick up your phone.

Nano sim packs (including adaptors) will be issued tomorrow. Your sim will be transferred instantly.

I picked up my 3 Nano SIM and adaptor earlier.

The Nano SIM will be live tomorrow.

When it goes live I will put it in the Micro SIM adaptor in my 4S and then I'm ready to pop it straight in my 5 and start using it as soon as I get my hands on it.

Just called 3 up, they said that they won't release them until the device is available...

I can, it happened with "The New iPad", 4G was a big feature in that and that supported 4G on a spectrum we do not here, yet they still sell it on contracts over here and 24 month ones at that.

The competitors were livid, 02 were set to challenge the decision by Ofcom.

Good point. I hadn't thought about that.

Why increase the 16Gb to £529 and leave the rest at old prices! such a piss take!

16GB is the most popular model which means they're just trying to gouge more from those users to fill up their bottom line. Really off-putting.

I remember the days when these things cost just over £300.

*sigh*

Totally concur.

It's clever bringing the price of the 16gb and 32gb so close to tempt the purchaser.

Either way one chooses they win win !

I called Three up first thing this morning, and they advised me they could send me a nano sim out straight away. Only that they would disable my existing sim and that the nano sim would be active within 24 hours. When i asked if they would send me a micro sim adatper, they said no.

So that would have been a lot of use then. A deactivated micro sim, and active nano sim, and an iPhone 4S. Told them to forget it. Idiots.

I think they showed off dc-hspa or something (whatever it's called) and that's being used by o2!

Will the IP5 not work on O2's future LTE network?! I thought that it would :(

Unfortunatly it didnt , it advised the only european LTE avaliable was Deutchtelecom and EE. Phill Schiller even spoke about the fact that EE was anounced so recently.

The only point O2 was mentioned was on the nexty slide, which were carriers in europe that support dual band HSPDA+ ie faster than 3g but not LTE. :)
