Why's wrong with adding load balancing and additional servers?
Unless they are complete idiots (I'm not saying that they are not) then adding additional servers to a load balanced pool should not cause an outage or slow down.

Start of Pre-order

Why do people think that pre-order will start at 8am? It was 12am for the new iPad (even though the site was then offline for about an hour), so why should it be 8 hours later this time?

Most likely they are not, but I've seen a lot :p they could even be doing some simple routine maintenance or Akamai could be doing some.

Becuase the iPad became available for pre-order almost straight after the announcement, as soon as the store returned.

For US buyers, pre-oerders open for the iPhone 5 Friday 14th, which is at 12.01AM, first thing, we are 8 hours ahead of them, so our pre-orders start at 8AM.

Simple.

Because the iPhone last year started at 8am

After 15 minutes of being on hold to Orange's upgrade line, spoke to a guy, i said i am due for an upgrade and i was wanting to get the iPhone 5 and i had heard pre orders start about 8am tomorrow, he asked where i heard that, i said from a friend that called earlier, he confirmed it, said they have no pricing, did not know if it was going to be online too, but over teh phone definitely and asked if i wanted to be put on "priority callback" as they expect high call volumes tomorrow....

very very very skeptical!! do i wait for the callback or do i just call and try anyway....

Somebody has probably already posted this but O2 has directed you to their Sim Swap page under the Nano Sim tab on their iPhone 5 page. Looks like you can get it ordered now.

Quick question. I've never got my iPhone's through preorder before. How fast to I have to be to fall into that 2-3week wait trap? I'm planning on getting online before work at 8 but will I have to be super fast or does it take an hour or so for the first batch to run out? Also, does Apple take the money out of your account on preorder or dispatch??

Thanks

I've just chopped down a spare giffgaff micro-SIM I had in the house, and even though it means cutting through some of the metal at the left and right edges the SIM still worked in an old Nokia N80!

Used this - http://www.airportal.de/How_to_cut_Mini_and_Micro_SIM_to_Nano_SIM.pdf - and a pair of scissors as I wan't bothered about damaging it. Will take a bit more care with my live SIM :D

the Nano sim is 15% thinner than all previous sim cards so just simply cutting it down won't work, not unless you shave some off the back as well.

From an ex Orange retail employee, your chances are about 5% of receiving a callback!

Please ignore what I just said. It doesn't clarify that you have to have the new sim to do the sim swap. Or I'm too thick to realise. Either way I just tried it and that is the case. So in short I've no idea how to get the nano sim haha

few hours will secure the 1st batch at a guess, you need the money in your account for pre order for the pre auth they do then they will take the money when it gets dispatched

haha that's what i thought, but i could call for the 8am launch and if they call back i have call waiting :D i'm just very sceptical about the whole thing as it seems as if they're trying to keep it quiet, since i was asked how i knew!!!

na sorry, i'm not fussed about the sim as it will come with the phone

Three?

So, what are Three like as a network?

I heard bad things about their coverage a few years ago. Are they still bad?

I'm currently on GiffGaff, wanting to buy a 5 unlocked. I basically want to get 3's rolling contract for now, as I can get the nano sim and move my number this week before the phone arrives, then I'll either stay with them, or move to EE if their 4G is worth getting.

Thank youuu :)

Has anyone managed to get a Nano Sim from vodafone yet?

I'll be annoyed if the phone gets delivered and then i have to go out and queue up at vodafone shop just to get a sim

I get 4-5 bars at home and about 8 down, 3 up.

Unfortunately they don't allow use to order the sim on that page, and O2 are being a bit of a pain to get any information out of at the minute, hopefully that will change soon. I realise I'm impatient but I just want a Nano Sim before the iPhone release as I know it will be crazy otherwise.

Sim swap is if you've already got your mitts on a nano sim and you want to swap your sim to it - it's my understanding anyway.

It's this page http://freesim.o2.co.uk/freesim/?campaign=1030 that needs to be updated by O2 for us to order a nano sim. As of 4pm today their online rep didn't have a clue when they would be available. Instead insisting on "you'll get one with your new iPhone" - not if i order thru Apple I won't lol.

There are 4 people in our household, I'm wanting to pre-order 4 iPhones. How can I get around the two people delivery limit? If I use 2 different credit cards under a different name but the same address, will that work? Does anyone have any experience this?

i have a horrible feeling im going to have to que up at a o2 store just for a sim! arghhhh.

Same thing happened to me with the Micro Sim for the iPhone 4. I queued outside for almost 20 minutes and didn't move once. I lost patience and ended up walking over to Carphone Warehouse (who had sold out of iPhone 4) to request a sim from them. After a flash of the iPhone and a little chat about how nice it was one of the sales reps kindly handed one to me. May be worth a shot again this year if O2 don't sort it out soon.
