If you mean the Apple store, no it doesn't have to be the billing address, and the cardholder doesn't need to sign, I have mine delivered to work.

Yeh I did, thanks. Also, does anyone know what the best sim only deal is to get if you want to tether? I know you have to get a add on for the three unlimited internet plan, but it doesn't say how much.

I don't know if this is of any help to anybody and we should all probably take it with a pinch of salt anyway but I just spoke to Carphone Warehouse regarding my pre-order.

They said they the networks have told them that pricing (contract) will be available from tomorrow morning. Carphone Warehouse are so confident of this that they're paying their staff to come in early and start calling the preorder customers back. I guess that should be expected since the official pre-order begins anyway.

Just thought it was a useful snippet.

Sounds promising. Thanks.

The tethering add on in £5, for a 2GB allowance (i THINK its 2gb anyway).

Other option is the one plan, £25 /month and unlimited tethering inc.

Hello everyone :)

It's that time of year again. Whenever there's a new Apple iMustHave out, it's time to check into the MacRumor's UK thread so we can all get anxious about our delivery status notifications (or lack of them!).

Any idea on the latest news regarding pre-order time? I've heard;

* 12am GMT or BST
* 12am PST
* 9am GMT or BST
* Sometime after 12am GMT or BST.

Anyone have anything solid to go on?

0800 Local, or 0700Z I think.

Seems to be same as last year, with 12AM Pacific worldwide preorder launch. Which is a 8am BST "official start" - last year it was 45 minutes late though.

Edit - Mixed up Eastern and pacific!

I tweeted O2 asking about handset prices, all they could say was soon, very soon. But didn't know when LOL. I would guess either later tonight or tomorrow though.

I seem to recall O2 announcing tariffs last year very late one night at around 10/11pm???

Just had this reply from O2 online chat when I asked about a nano sim.

Billy: I'll tell you this please.
Billy: The pre-order for the new iPhone will go live tomorrow. So I'm sorry but we'll be able to pre-order the new nano SIM once it'll be available tomorrow.
Billy: I'd therefore, request you to get back to us tomorrow and we'll definitely help you with the SIM ordering.
xxxxxxxxx: Fantastic - are you guys offering an early buy out of contract?
xxxxxxxxx: like you did with the iphone 4?
Billy: Yes it'll be but you'll please need to wait for the next 48 hours. And then we'll be able to confirm this to you.
xxxxxxxxx: so you are going to offer buy out of contracts early?
Billy: Yes right.
xxxxxxxxx: you are?
Billy: I request you to allow us for the next 48 hours so that we can help you with this.
Billy: I mean to say that we'll offer early buy out of contract.
Billy: But you need to wait for the next 48 hours.
xxxxxxxxx: So just to clarify - you are offering early contract buyouts at a discounted rate?
Billy: It'll be but I'm sorry it has not yet been decided now. This is the only reason I'm requesting you to wait for the next 48 hours so that we'll be able to confirm this to you.

Still ordering via Apple - and if O2 do offer an early buy out - one of them will either go to the wife or eBay for a tidy profit.

What is and how does early buyout work? (with an example of last year please lol).

It was £20 for each month left remaining on your contract, so if you had 6 months left it would cost you £120 to buy out the rest of your contract and upgrade immediately

Regarding my earlier post on obtaining a Nano Sim through the O2 Live Help.

Good ol' O2...
I fear sleepless nights ahead (kidding).

I rang O2 today and they won't have any NANO-SIMS in stock until iPhone 5 release date on September 21st.

Not last year but the year before for the iPhone 4, O2 let you "buy out" the remainder of your contract at the discounted rate of £20/month....

They didn't do it last year for the 4s... "Billy" is still clarifying too...

me: thankyou - sadly by then I will have missed the apple pre order window
Billy: Please don't worry.
Billy: Please get in touch with us tomorrow morning.
me: at what time?
me: 8am?
Billy: Yes,
me: on 202?
me: and you'll let me buy out my contract at a discounted price? I'm not due an upgrade til jan
Billy: Yes please call us on 202 for pre-order tomorrow. And yes we're working on it
Billy: Okay.
Billy: I do understand you're not yet eligible for upgrade.
me: So i should still call?
Billy: Yes I request you to please call us on 202 tomorrow morning.
Billy: Catherine, I do not want to give you any false information.
Me: Yes that would be a very bad thing to do... But i don't want to ring only for them to say I cant buy it out at a discounted price. If you see my dilema?
Billy: Because we're still working on it.

Honestly I think it's bull...

It says 12.01 AM Pacific on the MR front page which equates to 3.01 AM Eastern which equates to 7.01 AM GMT?

Thanks for that little bit of knowledge!

I would call them tomorrow and ask though, because they probably haven't heard from the top people of O2 what there official policy will be :/.

12AM PST is 8AM BST

12AM EST is 5AM BST.

Guess PST is the correct one

I was going to bail out on 3 and go back to EE for LTE, until I compared the prices for the 4S. Orange really take the mick with their contracts, so think I'll stick with 3 and wait for them to launch their own LTE service in the future.

Would dearly love to know when we're going to find out tariffs for the networks so we can make educated guesses on where to get our service from.

Good luck with that - My CPW Phone 3 was a pre-order guaranteed for delivery on launch day with promises every time I rang up to confirm. 3:00pm on the day they finally acknowledged that despite me having placed one of the earliest orders it would 'be a few days'. iPhone turned over a week later.

I'd like to say they're bound to have got their act together over the last few years, but from what I've seen other people say of them during the 3S, 4 and 4S launch I still wouldn't touch CPW with a bargepole.

Ah well, I'm lucky. If it turns up on launch day, great. If it doesn't I'm sure I'll get more and more pissed off but I'm content enough to wait a few extra days if it comes to it.

So there's no way to reserve a phone for pick up from the store next Friday? If I want to pick up an unlocked phone in the Apple store do I just have to make sure I'm there early on the 21st?

A general comment about the carriers...

We all knew the iPhone 5 was going to be announced yesterday. History shows that the prices would be largely similar to the launch prices of the iPhone 3G/3GS/4/4S...

We were near certain (weren't we?) that the new iPhone 5 was use nano-SIMs as opposed to micro-sims. Carriers have gone through this transition before with sim to micro-sim.

What irks me is that none of the five major carriers appear to have anything ready. They could have had web pages ready containing pricing, pre-order details, information on how to swap sims, and so on... They're not new to any of this, it happens with every single iPhone launch.

I guess we all want to give them our money in one form or another yet none of them seem to want to step forward and take the opportunity! I just don't understand why they let this happen time and time again. Instead they let their call centres and web-chat services become bombarded with the same old questions - making themselves look very incompetent in the process when they don't have any firm answers ready.

You could keep trying this page over the next few days: http://www.apple.com/uk/iphone/how-to-buy/

Still showing the 4S at the moment, but in the past it's been used to allow customers to reserve iPhones for pickup in store. I'm not sure if it's ever been in place prior to a launch, or only in the days afterwards. Worth a look though.

Don't believe for a single minute they don't have any of this stuff ready and that all the tariffs did not need to be rubber stamped by Apple before going live. I'd bet money that they are not allowed to release that information before a certain date or time or be told they would not have supply of the new iPhone. It's the sort of control freak stuff I could see Jobs doing and wouldn't be surprised if Cook's Apple is no different.

I've created a little script to help us Brits out with getting the first pre-orders of iPhone 5!

P.S. - No guarantee it will work but I'm 'reasonably' confident :p .. famous last words..
