Verizon doesn't use sim cards as they are a CDMA network

Verizon 4G LTE does uses a SIM card. My VZW iPad has a micro SIM tray and it comes with a VZW micro SIM as well.

Inside, there must be some conversion algorithm to let me get on their old EV-DO network.

I can only speak for 3 here, but 3 has certainly been planning for the release. If you check their twitter feed @threeUK there is a *strong* hint that they are not releasing prices yet for a specific reason. What could that be? Either they are forbidden from doing so under contract, or it would put them at a competitive disadvantage compared with the other carriers who can subsequently adjust pricing based on early announcements. Info regarding nano SIMs clearly has been slow getting to retail staff, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt: I'm sure they did not want to share all launch details with retail staff before the launch. Loose lips and all that. If its still a problem by mid next week, then something has gone badly wrong. Until then, have faith.

I can understand the competitive disadvantage element, but realistically the costs and tariffs are going to be within a few pounds of the 4S launch price anyway.

Regarding the rest of it, I see no reason why information not specifically relating to the pricing (see my previous post) can't be provided straight away. An FAQ can also be dispatched to all retail and call centre staff via e-mail within minutes these days. I would have suspected such a document to be ready first thing this morning.

Again, I reiterate that the networks make themselves look bad. This isn't the first iPhone launch - they should know the drill by now and have answers at the ready. And if they don't have answers ready, then they should say when they will and where that information will be available. It's Customer Service 101 - easy.

One more question!

It might sound silly but as I put a case on my phone I don't really care what colour it is. From experience what do you guys think gives me a better chance of preordering in the morning and getting it delivered on launch day? Black or White?

Anybody have a link to the old release 4S contracts by the networks? Been googling it to no avail.

Can't decide on network for monthly contract!

I am just out of contract with O2 after many years (pleased I took a 12 month contract last year :D ) and will be trading in my 64gb 4s for £305 on O2 recycle (already placed my recycle order to secure the price though might mean no phone for couple of days!). Want to get a 64gb 5 on monthly contract

Obviously tariffs and handset prices are yet to be announced but am trying to work out the other pros and cons of the main networks (O2, Vodafone and Orange) to try and decide where to get the iPhone 5.

I get 20% staff discount on Vodafone line rental via my employer and I think 15% of Orange. Nothing on O2!

I like O2 for Yo Sushi discounts :D and visual voicemail (hate the 3rd party VV apps) but have mainly stayed with them because have previously done early upgrade/buy outs which have kept me tied in.

Any advice on what might be best network for iPhone 5 out of the above 3 given the choice??? What are the main differences? Is a move to Orange worth it for EE/4G?

I hate the fact that it looks like for the first time ever I am going to have to take a 24 month contract

Help!!
ps have tried to catch up on this thread but it is getting huge!!

Correct you are, Most of the networks will show their hand tomorrow I think. (After Apples had its pre order moment).

Hopefully have my 3 iPhone 5 pre ordered tomorrow :D

Its hard to say because there has only been one release where Black and White have been available from launch. Plus you don't know how much stock of each Apple will have, I doubt it is equal they will probably have tried to predict demand for each colour.

Surely if you are preordering tomorrow you just look at what is in stock and when it will be delivered. Its not like they make you order before telling you if you will get it for launch or not.

A few simple questions really, since we don't know the prices:

- What is each carrier's coverage like in your workplace/home/other frequently visited places?
- How much do you care about visual voicemail?
- Will 4G be a big benefit to you?
- Will 4G even be available (on any network) in your area during the lifetime of the contract?

From previous years I'd say you'll be able to get a black much more easily. Last year it seemed there was much more stock of black. Black and lower capacity was most available. I was first in the queue last year to get my white 64gb which I was glad as local store only had about 3 I think and it was weeks before they were available again.

Loved the white but think I'll go back to black again as it looks really smart in the images. Though the different colours has helped differentiate mine and hubbies phones which was good!

I have been with three since I have my iPhone4, but recently (about 2 months now) I have awful reception. Therefore I am reasonably happy to change phone and/or provider. The thing is, I usually only upgrade once the phone is done/dead/knackered as I don't need the hype of the new.

Is the 4g reception supposingly any better? I live in west London betweeen W12 and Heathrow airport, so not out in the country side, even that my current phone makes me feel so.

I've never preordered before so I didn't know if that would be the case or whether it would go through and suddenly say on my order status '2-3 weeks'. But thanks for clearing that up.

I currently have a 12 Month Sim only contract with Orange, currently paying £10.50, for 300 Anytime Minutes, Unlimited Orange/T-Mobile Minutes, Unlimited Texts and 1.5GB Data U24 Orange deal.

Now, I will probably buy the iPhone 5 Sim Only, but if EE converge Orange and T-Mobile, will my 4G be enabled on the Nano Sim, or are they even doing EE/Orange Sim free phones.

I would rather buy an iPhone via CC, pay £30 a month, then pay £36 + £200 upfront fee for 2 years.
