You can just order a case off eBay for £2 to £4 while you wait, I found those are very good quality. I brought a clear case and rubber bumper for total sum of £5, they both fit perfectly on the iphone 5.

Also just make sure the item is based in the UK and you should get it in 2 working days as most seller offer free 1st class postage.

Could you link to them please? :)

Hope you don't mind answering a few questions to help those of us still trying?

  • How many days did you reserve for before you were successful?
  • What time did you reserve the SIM free iPhone?
  • Did you reserve multiple models/multiple stores - or just the one model at one store?
  • Which store/s did you try to reserve the iPhone at?
  • Did you encounter any issues in the store when collecting your reserved iPhone or did it go smoothly?

Thanks!

Here you go:

Colour rubber case (black inner) £3.45, received it after 2 working days.
Very good fitting, on/off and volume buttons have very good feel. The inner colour strip is made of glossy plastic and outer ring rubber.

Clear Case £1.99, received it the next working day.
Very good fitting, more frosty than clear, feel like normal plastic (not too premium) but it is only £2.

Also brought SPIGEN SGP screen protector, got it the next working day (have two protectors inside).

There are lots more depend on the colour of your phone and personal preference. Just search for "iphone 5 case" and make sure you select UK Only under Location.

Also interested if somebody managed to reserve and buy an iPhone through an AppleStore online in London.

Just out of interest... Has anybody here Reserved a SIM FREE iPhone 5 and actually managed to get a reservation yet?

Without me going back nearly 300 thread pages, I cant see a single person who managed this so far!

Also, on the website it does say there are a limited stock for walk in customers. I wonder if it's worth going into a store first thing to see if they have any SIM FREE models available.

Im not sure how much longer I can keep trying to reserve a Phone! Come on Apple! Keep up with demand!

OK - I was lucky...

Went into Exeter store on Sunday morning (I previously said after lunch but I have just remembered I went back after lunch to have another look - not to reserve the phone) at approx 11:00 (roughly 30 mins after opening).

After being told 'no we don't want to take your £700 now - you must pre-order online' (or words to that effect) I filled in a pre order in the store on one of the ipads - tbh I didn't hold out much hope.

I only reserved one model - 64GB black.

E-mail was received at approx 20:00 that evening to go and collect the next day between 09:00 and 17:00. When I returned the next day (Monday) at store opening I simply gave them my name and they went off and got my phone!

I didn't actually open the phone until I got to work and noticed a couple of 'dings' in it. I made a genius appointment for the same afternoon at 16:30 and simply swapped the phone over. The employee said it was the last one they had in store and it was the 3rd one he had exchanged.

I think thats it!

I am sat here hoping and praying...

I put nearly 20 Reservations in (with the help of my wife and a friend) for different models and at 5 different stores. If I dont get a nice email tonight I'm very likely to check out Android for the first time!

I've had a relatively stress free release. I ordered a 16GB Black & Slate iPhone 5 on Sunday evening from The Carphone Warehouse, and was told it was back-ordered which I was fine with. Then on the monday I was told I could reserve from a store, so I reserved one and got an email 4 hours later saying they had one in stock for me, which I was going to pick up, but that night I had an email from The Carphone Warehouse saying my phone was on the way so I figured I'd stay with them and leave the reservation, and it arrived today! Not bad going, I was given a 2-3 week expected wait and I had it within 2 days, awesome! :D

I can also say that the box was quite ruffed up (thanks to the delivery service Yodel who are terrible, but at least they got it to me), and the phone did have blue markings along the sides near the volume buttons but they came off easily. I have a flawless black iphone and it's stunning, I even took a coin to the sides of it and got no scratches so I do believe the "scuffgate" business has been blown out of proportion. You can't expect something to be as light as aluminium and be as strong as kryptonite.

Thank you apple, lovely product. :apple:

I reserved yesterday trying both Regent Street (reserved around 11AM) and Covent Garden (around 3PM) and got an email at 23:55 confirming my reservation for pick up today at the Covent Garden Apple Store. No response from Regent Street.

I reserved the sim free white 32GB which is one of the "less popular" ones. Pretty much all the other people picking up phones seemed to be getting black ones. I didnt trust the scratch problem on the black one so went with white.

So I ordered online on Orange's website on the 14th (Friday) and rang them up a couple of days ago to check in on my order. They said they only received it on the 17th (Monday), which was annoying, but promised that I would have the handset by tomorrow evening. I have not received any texts with delivery information, and my order number does not appear to work on the Orange tracking site. Should I ring them up again or just wait and see?

Quick question for all. I am currently a T-Mob customer due for an upgrade. Is better for me to go to my local store (oxford) or order online I.e. which will get me the phone fastest?

My local store said put down a £25 deposit and i'll get the phone within 10 working days. But i'm wondering if ordering online will be faster?

Can someone answer my earlier question. If I go contract instead of Sim free via the Apple store and I'm upgrading not taking out a new contract do I still need utility bill and bank statement? Or just passport or drivers license?

This is pulled directly from apple.com/uk/retail/iphone

What you need to know when buying iPhone.

New iPhone owners

UK credit or debit card (with account number and sort code)
If you want to change your network but keep your existing phone number, bring your PAC code from your current network.
For Pay Monthly tariffs,* in addition to the above, you'll also need:

Proof of current address (driving licence or recently paid utility bill)
To agree to pay your monthly O2, Orange, T-Mobile, 3 or Vodafone bill via direct debit
If you have recently moved or think additional documentation may be required to complete your credit check, please bring any of the following items showing your full name and current address and dated within the last three months:

For all carriers, you must bring the following:

Driving licence or passport
Recent utility bill
Bank statement or building society statement
Current iPhone owners and existing 3, Orange, O2,
T-Mobile or Vodafone customers

There are a variety of upgrade options for existing customers. To learn more about upgrading to iPhone, please visit your local Apple Retail Store.

I am under the impression that you don't need any form of ID for an upgrade, that would only be needed if you were asking for a new contract so they can credit check you. All you'll need is to know you phone account details.

so how does that work then... 4 days in a row i have tried reserving a 16gb sim free black iPhone 5 at both regent st and covent garden at 9am, or is this purely because its less popular...

Do we know whether the reservations are accepted on a first come first serve basis or are they random?

Looks like yet another failure of a day for my attempts too.

I had similar trouble with Orange, ordered on 15/9. Not a word from them until a tat yesterday morning from UK Mail saying it was out for delivery. Received it yesterday evening. The delivery note had the 18th on it, now either it took them 3 days to process my order, or my order was picked on the 18th and had been sitting in their warehouse for a week

After Pre-ordering mind on the 14th as an upgrade through orange, I was told it wasn't 'processed' until the 19th. Was promised I'd receive it this week but still nothing. I managed to get a slot with apple to go in store and upgrade but after phoning orange they said I'd have trouble as it'll show I'm not due one and am unable to cancel my order with them now, just refuse the item when delivered. Well they can p*** off now. I'm gonna try get another slot with apple, take a new contract out with either t-mobile or 3, and orange can do one.

I think they must be random, I've been placing reservation requests at five stores within 90 seconds or so of the page opening for four days with no luck either. I can't believe none of those requests have been within the number they had to allocate unless it is literally a handful of phones available.

I still have my preorder placed with Apple but that is now showing a delivery date of 22 October!

Cheers I'll try them.

You get yours ok? I've not been in this thread since mine arrived, but if I remember correctly you were a fellow t mobiler?

Sorry I haven't been online in a while, yes I got it on release day :)
Just wish my case will arrive soon already have a few tiny chips on the aluminium and I'm being super careful!

I still find it a bit retarded that they have "Loads" in stock for contract, but none SIM free. I mean, I'm wanting to spend £700 on a phone! Just take my money Apple!

Still have no email, so if this isnt my night, Im going to take a serious look at the S3 tomorrow.

Im not going to spend 15 minutes every day trying to "reserve" and iPhone. What amuses me the most is I spoke to the apple store at Cardiff, and he said only about half of the people reverving actually turn up. :(
