Ofcom approves Vodafone and O2 merger. Will be called CTI.

Hello AT&T/Verizon style duopoly.

Those companies are not merging. O2 and Vodafone will still exist as entirely separate companies. They will jointly own a company which will manage the radio network. The end result is that the coverage for both networks will be identical.

Contacted apple uk to have mine "scratched out the box" iphone replaced.

1. I had to send through proof of damage via email before they agree to swap over.
2. They will send a replacement out on express delivery (4-5 days btw).
3. Courier will pick up existing handset (all box, accessories as well) within 2 days.
4. I will be stuck without a phone during this period...

Furious at apples replacement process...

Ah seen.

Your girlfriend got a sim free unlocked iPhone 5 16GB from an Orange shop?

More likely it was network locked contract stock, you might want to try it with a Voda or O2 sim to check, there is still a fair amount of contract stock around, it's the unlocked sim free stock that has become as rare as rocking horse droppings.

Maybe I wasn't being clear enough, I meant she got her 16GB Black iPhone 5 on contract from Orange - My bad. My brain was fried at work!

As I don't want to be a mug for 24 months I'm going to buy the phone and get a cheap rolling contract. Somebody posted on another board that Virgin do a great deal on a Sim only tariff which is through T-Mobile.

Can anybody confirm this, as I wouldn't mind their LTE coverage. Link here

Edit - They don't do Nano Sims. Damn!

I'm sure others will have their own views but my understanding is that T-Mobile won't have LTE. The only way to get LTE (until 3 launch theirs) will be to take out a contract with EE. Even though Orange/T-mobile are the same as EE, the contracts will be different (and more expensive).

Ive already got a mark on the side of my iPhone 5. Not dropped it or put it in my pocket with keys/coins or anything else that could cause damage to the phone but somehow, there is a mark on the side. I must say, that as much as I love my iPhone 5, its bloody fragile as hell!

I see. I was under the impression that once LTE is available, people that have taken out contracts with Orange/T-Mobile will have access straight away?

I got a gear 4 ice box, it's a slender but all over clear case. Worth checking out ;)

Nope, new contract with EE required, which may or may not mean starting your 24 months again and paying more for the privilege.

That's not my understanding but am happy to be corrected. You may still get DC-HSDPA which is up to 40Mbps rather than the max 100Mbps theoretical from LTE.

Anyone still getting Processing items for an Oct 3-9 delivery???!

Yes. I ordered on 14/9 @ 9:00 and got my confirmation @9:42 for the 21/9...a day later a new email confirming delivery Oct 3-9 but since then it's being Processing :(

That's why I have ordered this case: http://shop.tech21.uk.com/store/ProductDetail/TE0101YSM007W_Impact-Band--Iphone-5

I know its the same for everyone, and the same every year, but its pretty annoying not being allowed to spend £600!! :)

BTW,

Any idea how to get carphone warehouse to sell me a sim only/payg?

It would be £15 to unlock via the network I'd 'lock' it to, and thats a price worth paying.

However, they keep saying contracts only. Annoying!

Yeah this is the issue I'm coming across.

Most of the network shops and CPW have some version of the iphone 5 in stock but are for contracts/upgrades only. More money i suppose or someting to do with employee spiv's for opening an account or re signing up someone !

Their is a local high street store in my town called CEX who have these in stock to sell as second-hand, but the 16gb version is listed at £655 ! :(

Scratches and marks add character. Maybe i'm just laissez faire because i'll only have the phone for 12months anyway and i don't use eBay anymore but rather trade in sites. Who don't care as much as about scuffs/marks.
