Just had my reservation email, for the wrong phone. I reserved a 32GB black and 16GB white, and got the email for the white 16GB. My sister bought a 16GB white one in O2 today, so was hoping i wouldn't get the email for that one.

They where both Sim Free and in Meadowhall.

Still nothing for me. /sigh
Congrats to you guys though. To the rest of us, our time will come, hopefully.

Is that a change in policy? Both O2 and Vodafone have been happy to unlock iPhones on day one for quite a while as far as I'm aware. I've had O2 unlock two iPhones within the first month of an 18 month contract.

EDIT: O2 customers can fill in this form and have their phone unlocked for free. https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form

Same here. I've had several iPhones unlocked by O2 in the past before my contract was over.

If I were Apple, I would be looking on forums like this for DEDICATED Apple fans and making sure they got fricking phones. Damn them!!

LONDON stratford
11-12pm
64GB BLACK

AND

LONDON regents street
2-3pm
64GB WHITE

Ive hit the jackpot after waiting for sooo long. Now just have to choose between a scuffed up black or a white that will knock off a few man points.

Simers - did you reserve it at Bath?

Me too, but I've not had an email, so I'm guessing I didn't get one:(

Can I ask, what model did you get?

Cheers!

does anyone have any idea at all in the Uk when it shoul dbe possible to walk in and buy one? bored of waiting...dont want to use ebay etc, annoying as i cancelled a 9-15th oct est. order, last week...as i thought i would be able to walk-in and get one..evidently not. :| And reservations dont seem easy... ah

Think about that for a minute.....

There is a lottery going on everyday, and only a handful of people are lucky enough to get a successful reservation.

What do you think is the likelihood you can just walk into an Apple Store and pick a sim free one up?

If the reservation system seems difficult for you, perhaps wait 3 or 4 weeks and then think about starting again.

Pretty sure that's why I wanted others opinions smart one

If anyone has a white 16 or white 32 at either...

Meadowhall
Trafford Centre
Arndale Manchester
Highcross Leicester

That they don't want or need, please let me know. Ideally after 32 white.

Thanks.

Hmm, nothing here - but then I was trying for the 32GB Black which seems to be the most popular by far.

Ah well, perhaps later .. or tomorrow :(

You don't need opinions, just read through this thread.

The facts.

No, you can't walk into an Apple Store (probably anywhere in the world) and buy a sim free unlocked iPhone 5.

You might be able to in the future, probably around the end of October if things stay the same, but there is a worldwide launch ongoing, and demand is high everywhere.

You can try the reservation system, and might strike it lucky and get one.

You can buy a contract free 64GB from CarphoneWarehouse, but it will be locked to your first sim card's network.

I heard that that was true (that it locked to the first sim card's network) of ALL sim-free models, even those bought direct from Apple. Anyone know if that's true? If so, I might just go for the CW option..

Wondering what you think the resale uplift will be on the 64GB units, knowing the 32Gb are probably the 'sweet spot'.
If I could be sure to get price-of-used-32GB+£100ish back when I sold it, I might go for a 64GB and have a bit more luck ...

No. Apple's are unlocked and stay that way.

CPW's are not "sim-free", they are "contract-free".

I'll be ready to order an iPhone 6 by the time this sodding preorder arrives!
Pretty annoying that ordering on the apple website on the 14th means getting it after people who've just phoned up Vodafone this week.
