Is that a change in policy? Both O2 and Vodafone have been happy to unlock iPhones on day one for quite a while as far as I'm aware. I've had O2 unlock two iPhones within the first month of an 18 month contract.
EDIT: O2 customers can fill in this form and have their phone unlocked for free. https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form
does anyone have any idea at all in the Uk when it shoul dbe possible to walk in and buy one? bored of waiting...dont want to use ebay etc, annoying as i cancelled a 9-15th oct est. order, last week...as i thought i would be able to walk-in and get one..evidently not. :| And reservations dont seem easy... ah
Think about that for a minute.....
There is a lottery going on everyday, and only a handful of people are lucky enough to get a successful reservation.
What do you think is the likelihood you can just walk into an Apple Store and pick a sim free one up?
If the reservation system seems difficult for you, perhaps wait 3 or 4 weeks and then think about starting again.
Pretty sure that's why I wanted others opinions smart one

You can buy a contract free 64GB from CarphoneWarehouse, but it will be locked to your first sim card's network.
I heard that that was true (that it locked to the first sim card's network) of ALL sim-free models, even those bought direct from Apple. Anyone know if that's true? If so, I might just go for the CW option..
No. Apple's are unlocked and stay that way.
CPW's are not "sim-free", they are "contract-free".
The standard of reporting on news websites is generally quite poor, especially the rapid publish "breaking news" articles.Excellent reporting by the BBCIn one 3 line paragraph, they make two mistakes.
I'll be ready to order an iPhone 6 by the time this sodding preorder arrives!
Pretty annoying that ordering on the apple website on the 14th means getting it after people who've just phoned up Vodafone this week.
