UK iPhone 5 thread

2 Replacements later....

I brought my phone into the apple store in Covent Garden yesterday because of cellular and Wi-Fi issues. My cellular signal kept dropping off which often led to me missing calls and not being able to place calls despite being in a good signal area and my Wi-Fi was intermittently unresponsive and slow.

Obviously, the genius could not reproduce the problem at the store but he said he would replace it and that they would not replace it again in the future if the genius was not able to reproduce the problem in store. He said something about having taken my one and only ‘get out of jail free’ card.

I inspected the phone, shook the genius’ hand, took the replacement, and began setting up the phone. Once setup, I ran some basic tests and found that the Wi-Fi was acting up just as my original iPhone did!

Absolutely furius, I rushed back upstairs and asked for a second device because I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the store with a device showing the same problem within 5 minutes of use. This second genius totally understood and replaced the phone but kept insisting that such issues were most likely software based.

Last night when personalizing the 2nd replacement, I found that the phone rattles quite significantly. I know its most likely due to the camera lens, but when the phone vibrates, in the first few moments it rattles the phone and I can hear the camera lens vibrating and making a high pitch noise which eventually dies out. When I tap gently around the phone, some areas feel quite sturdy while other areas feel hollow and cause a slight rattle.

Luckily, I reserved a second appointment at Regent Street last week just in-case the Covent Garden store wouldn’t be able to replace the original device for whatever reason. I will be paying another visit to the apple store after work today because the noise is very annoying. Already at work when I receive a text message or email, the camera lens vibration is quite noticeable in the quiet work environment.

I am just hoping they staff don’t tell me this isn’t a justifiable reason to get a 3rd replacement device!!!

Ugh. So frustrated right now.

wtf is going on. I called apple about this three times, and all they say is "it'll make the date on your window", Oct 3-9. I'm starting to think there's a real delay going on.
Yup, I think there's a delay too, although Apple are persistent we will get it by the 8th. Here is my email from customer support:-

Thank you for contacting The Apple Online Store.

I have reviewed your order and I can advise that your estimated date of delivery is on or before 8/10/12.

We are shipping our orders as quickly as possible to our customers as we know how eager you are to receive your iPhone.

It is quite possible that you may receive your iPhone before the 8/10/2012 however in order to avoid incorrect expectations being set for you we quote the latest commit date but that is not to say the phone will not arrive before then.

You can keep track of your order by signing in using you Apple ID and email address to: http://store.apple.com/uk/account/home.

I hope this is of assistance to you.

Kind regards,*

Moira

I have been on the phone with Apple Customer Services, and basically got the same info as you did. They are adamant that my order will be with me on or BEFORE the 9th.

"Yes, sir I have got your order in front of me and everything is fine. I can confirm that your iPhone will reach you on or before the 9th Oct"

I still don't believe it...:(

I ordered my iPhone 5 on Thursday from Three with an estimated delivery of the 17th October. It arrived Monday the 1st October. I couldn't believe it

I don't believe it either. It might get shipped before the 8th/9th but I doubt we will receive it before the date given.

Just picked up my iPhone this morning after reserving yesterday and they didn't as me for any ID despite their email advising to me bring some.

Anybody order from Apple on previous years?

I can never remember getting it on the last date due. That's actually over three weeks for many do surely they just use that as a last possible date?

Anybody considering cancelling? The service is poor.

Guys, please note: these reservations cannot be exchanged or transferred. When you arrive, you will be asked for your name and surname, which they enter into their handheld devices. They will then ask for photo ID.

They will NOT sell it to you if the name does not match.

When picking up my reservation from White City I was not asked for any ID. However, I was buying the phone SIM free - I assumed that the advice to bring ID was for those doing something with a contract. I then paid with my credit card and the obviously the card and reservations names matched, so I wonder if my partner had tried to pick it up on my behalf he might have been turned away.

If your iPhone arrives within the estimated delivery range of dates, that's not poor service. Why order a device if you're not happy with the delivery estimate?

-----------

I walked into an O2 store two days after launch and picked up a 64GB white on contract, one of the last three available!

I ordered last year and it never took so long. The estimated delivery date goes over three weeks. I expected it in two max the 1-2 weeks all got there's in a week.

Doesn't matter. I've had to wait until the last day of estimated deliveries before.

It's annoying having to wait, sure, but that doesn't mean the service is poor. They're open with you in saying it could take 2-3 weeks, so if it takes 3 weeks, you just have to deal with it as you had the option of not ordering.

I am...but what are the options? I want mine unlocked so unless I win the reservations lottery there is no way out of this:(

There's still hope. I know that once apple ships it, it definitely could arrive within 3 days (happened when I ordered the new iPad). So I'd say if it ships before the 6th, we're good. If not, it won't make it in time.

They ship from the UK, not directly from China. You'll get a status change the day before it is delivered, along with a tracking number.

So basically all hopes on tomorrow, if not today?

Does apple ever deliver on Saturdays?

All this waiting is becoming torture.. made worse because I sold my iPhone 4 two weeks ago. didnt think it would take this long to get another phone in hand :(

I'm so use to Apple over delivering on promise, but this time...
