3's speeds on DC-HSDPA are even comparible to EE's quoted average 4G speeds...

The iPad 3 has the DC-HSDPA or HSPA+ or whatever it is.
At home, I get about 6Mbps on my iPad 3 using a 3 sim. At the girlfriends, I get about 10-11Mbps.
Prior to the iPad 3, on the iPad 2, the speeds were half that.

EE says their average 4G is 8-12Mbps.

3 win for me.

Only 8-12MB?! thats nothing for supposed 4G. Well that cements the choice for me.

So here is how my day went so far...

Currently on O2

Early morning the wife pre-ordered with Carphonewarehouse as an upgrade and got an email saying to wait for confirmation.

I want a white phone so decided to wait for a bit, eventually i succumbed and pre-ordered with T-Mobile at about 9:30am, got an email saying to wait for a credit check and got a call a bit later with an offer of a contract, but told i wasnt garunteed a phone up to 30 days from launch.

No good! so cancelled with T-Mobile and sat and waited for o2... and waited... then i saw a post on o2 site someone phoned Phones4u up and was able to upgrade on the phone.

Phoned Phones4u and was able to upgrade to a black 16GB iphone5 as white were not available for o2 (despite o2 not even doing upgrades on their site yet) while i was on the phone the guy said to hold on as he just received a message revealing a stock allocation for white phones on o2, said he needed to check this, came back and said strangley he can do a white 16GB. I asked him to triple check that this is true and for launch and he said yep, or i can move to vodafone.

So i upgraded on the phone, no trouble, got confirmation that i should get my phone on launch day delivered or at the latest 5 days within launch. I also got a iphone5 pack with some goodies, and if i refferred someone id get £50.

Phoned the missus, she called Carphonewarehouse and they said she wouldnt even get one and she still hadnt received confirmation all day, so she then phoned phones4u, did the upgrade and got £50.

Was told the allocation is dwindling though....

Can I ask what your tariff is and whether there was an upfront cost?

Yeah, that's what I thought.

4G five times faster than 3G: based on 1.5 Mbps UK average speed for 3G (source: most recent Ofcom speed survey) and 8-12 Mbps average speed for 4GEE (source: EE data).
I expected 4G to be the 100Mbps or so that has been tested in some places!

Yes, I know it's alway been there! I only put my post up because sandyjmacdonald said it had been removed.
OK, the rest of your post didn't read like that but I see what you mean.

This is a rather busy thread so if you are responding to something it is better to quote the source.

Just back from my local 3 store. They seem to be the only shop in town actually taking pre-orders. It was a simple process. Had to do a quick credit check, they took my details and the details of the iPhone I wanted. In and out in 10 minutes, with an iPhone 5 32GB guaranteed for next Friday! :D

T Mobile have emailed me saying that I will receive the phone within 30 days of launch.. can anyone with experience of previous years tell me if it is likely to be that long?

My tarrif is the £46 per month unlimited with 1GB of data and no upfront cost. We took that because its nowhere near pay day and for two of us to buy off contract phones is pretty hefty.

I know its not the most effective way to do it but after 9 months i can reduce the contract anyway so ill only pay that premium for a little while.

you are welcome

I forgot to say, nice sheet! Great effort!
Seems I may be sticking with giffgaff (currently with them on my 4S).
Jumping up to the £15 tariff because they're talking about capping the £10 at 750mb rather than unlimited.

Finally got a non 3 nano sim!

Orange and o2 were bloody useless, no clue as to what's going on with their nano sim stock. Decided to give Vodafone a punt and to cut a long story short I've got a nano sim in the post via royal mail first class.

I must have asked the bloke five times if he could confirm it was a nano sim, apparently he's sent out quite a few today. Asked about the reports of other Vodafone call centres denying they had stock and assured me that while that might have been a misunderstanding with some staff earlier in the day he's definitely sending a nano sim.

If it's a bloody micro after this I'll go through the roof.

Sounds great. See my post above but basically I'm going in tomorrow morning to do the same thing.

Wah! GiffGaff data-caps is an oxymoron.

what a mess Orange upgrade has been and not even a loyalty discount on tariffs, I know if I was in a position to move carriers I would of

No network will apply any discounts to the iPhone. My mate had this problem when he wanted to upgrade to the iPhone. He moved networks.

It is spectacular how poorly prepared the mobile operators have been for this launch, with the exception of 3.

I have ordered nano-sims from 3 for my wife and me online and it says they will deliver next Monday.

Painless!

Oh I know. I received an email this morning inviting me to feedback. They're planning on capping the £10, but keeping the £15+ as unlimited.
Have to give my input by (I think) the 20th.

What are we Apple pre-order Non-O2 (that's a mouthful) going to do when we actually have the phone? What is the process to transfer to the new Nano Sim?

I exclude O2 because their website allows you to swap SIMs.

I would of gone to 3 as the deal was SOOO tempting but I wouldn't pass their credit check (thank you unhelpful HSBC for that)

Hi All,

Been following this thread for the past 48 hours, so thought I’d register to give my update.

Ordered the Black 64GB version this morning through the app, almost too easy! Delivery on the 21st! 

Currently on a 30 day rolling contract with Vodafone about £20 a month, I just called them to see about swapping the Sim over to a Nano sim. The guy on the phone told me he had ordered a nano sim for me and it would be delivered on the 17th.. I’m expecting a Micro Sim, but we will see.

Searched around for some other Sim only deals to see if I could get better than my current tariff. I found on Quidco a 12 month Sim only deal with Vodafone (I’m happy with Vodafone), 900 minutes, unlimited text and 1GB data for £20.50 a month, PLUS £120 cashback. So it works out £10.50 a month. Total cost over 12 months = £825 compared to £931 if I got the 64GB on the same tariff through Vodafone.
