Definitely need to invest in some more spare lightning cables. We have 3 in our household now, but the wife needs 2x for her iPad mini and 5S too. I need 2 more spares really, one for work and one for my car.

Buy the micro usb to lightning adapters from the apple store £15 each.

Then just buy micro usb cables instead, much cheaper, compatible and you can get them in long enough lengths so they can actually be useful.

Resisting the urge to order a Sim-only from CPW for £50 more, delivery tomorrow.

Apple really have treated the early birds with no respect here. The midnight crowd were the first people to wave their credit cards in their direction, and still stock is allocated elsewhere.

In full agreement!!

Just phoned CPW again to see if my order's showing on their system yet (64GB grey, ordered about an hour ago) so I can arrange Saturday delivery. Guy says it's not on their system yet and it can take up to 24hrs, I should probably be looking at dispatch Monday for a Tuesday delivery.

So much for order by 5:00pm for next (working) day delivery.

Still, I'll call back later today in the hope that the order's showing and I can pay for Saturday delivery. I don't understand how I can have an order confirmation email when they can't even see my order, but nothing surprises me with CPW.

Do you know if they had any Gold ones and if so what capacities? I was only there yesterday afternoon :-(

I would say yes. I went and got a coke from Eds diner and sat outside. I saw 3 'stereotypical' profiteers leaving. Each with 2 phones in bags. Looking through the bag I could see they were white. So white or gold no doubt. They must have been paying as I was told they had just run out.

Racism or not, these people are part of an organised racket and need to be stopped. They have ruined the launch for all legitimate Apple enthusiasts.

This is a fair point.

On the one hand you can argue that it is a free country and if people want to behave like this then there is no stopping them. To be fair it is the fault of the idiots (sorry!) who are willing to pay well over the odds for a phone. Whilst they exist so will the organised scalpers.

What has surprised me this time around is that the organised scalper gangs were widely reported at the last launch but not so much in this country - but now it seems just as bad here - certainly in the bigger cities of the UK.

What I would like to see, is the same policy Apple introduced to combat this problem elsewhere, which is you can order the phone online to collect in the store, with one per customer, and only with an Apple ID. I would certainly both understand this policy, and support it if it meant an end to this. I know that scalpers could create multiple apple IDs for this, but the amount of effort required would be significant, and Apple could certainly spot this activity with a raft of new AppleIDs being created around launch times.

Anyway, with that said, regardless of how you feel about the scalpers, it does certainly spoil things for genuine potential customers.

Their systems must be overloaded with the large amount of sim free 5S orders coming through. Hope you get yours tomorrow though.

Brent Cross has stock right now.
Space grey only

-------

Loads of scalpers.. Shame.

How big is the queue at Brent Cross?Did they give you an idea of their stock levels?
Hopefully some left this evening - doubtful I know.

Disappointed they have delivered today, because less likely they will deliver over the weekend. It'll be very frustrating if they don't deliver tomorrow. Surely Apple realise that there is only a minority of genuine customers coming on weekdays, as a lot of us can't get time of work. All they are doing is giving more supply to the scalpers, I can't believe it's so bad in the UK

See my post above (#2680)

There doesn't seem to be an option for Saturday delivery when you order (at least not that I could see). They told me on the phone I could phone them to add it (for £7.50) once my order was showing in their system, but told me this can sometimes take 24hrs which could mean Tuesday delivery at the earliest.

The problem is easily solved. On crazy high demand launches such as these, restrict to one handset per customer. If a customer requires a maximum of two handsets then they must register as a business customer and provide the full ID etc.
Purchases should be made using a valid debit or credit card.

Yes completely. The guys scalping this morning were the exact same people I saw doing it on Wednesday morning when I queued to get my 5s! Absolutely ridiculous. When I bought mine on Wednesday I said to the apple staff, "I don't know how you can sell 2 phones each to these people". All they could reply with is that it's now a limit of 2 per person and apparently it used to be unlimited per person.

Phoned both in the last 20 mins:
Birmingham have 32 and 64GB Space Grey in stock. Could not reserve over the phone and they thought it unlikely that any would left after the hour it would take me to get there.

Solihull - On hold, counts downs calls ahead then silence again:confused:

So I'm still holding out on my online 7-10 Oct order.

Yeah it'll take me nearly 2 hours to get to Birmingham. I phone Solihull and they're out.

Hmmmm..... I ordered mine from CPW last friday at about 6pm. Phone arrived at about 9.30am the next morning (saturday). No extra payment required.

Anybody bought one from Sheffield, Meadowhall recently?

I was going to put in an online order (as I'm in no rush), but it looks like one I'm after (32GB Grey 5S) is the most plentiful.

People will always demand rules that favour themselves. I have two contracts and upgrade both my iPhones each year at launch so I would not be in favour of this one-per-customer nonsense.

Regarding scalpers, like it or not its a free country and if people are prepared to spend £800-£1500 buying a phone on eBay from them that's their business. Me? I'm prepared to wait for Apple to deliver me my brand new phones.

It would work for the majority, which is more to the point.

Quick question, if i queue on a morning and get my ticket, could i collect the phone later in the day, or, when they get to the end and see a few remaining do the apple store sell them on?

You can't do that, I asked the same this week while in the queue in Regent Street and was answered "No".

Hmmm something's awry there then. I asked for a 32GB Space grey and a silver when I was queueing and could only get the space grey, yet when I reached the tills there was around 10-20 silvers left apparently for those with tickets. Even after hanging around in the store checking out the cases for a good 30 mins they were still there.

I think they are being taken from the queue and collected later in the day when the scalpers have more money. I think your only chance to get a silver or gold is to get there earlier (say 8-8:30am) and be patient. I arrived at 8:40am and could have been out of the store at 9:30am. Blame the TFL for your late arrival into the office :p

Exactly. The majority of normal people do not require two iPhones, however for those that do - register as a business customer and be prepared to show full ID. There's nothing wrong with my suggestion at all. It's currently free to register with apple as a business customer.

Have loads of 30 pin cables too. So might buy the adapter for them.

Just got home from Bluewater in Kent, they had/have stock of the 5S in space grey 32gb and 64gb, was plenty of cards still available about an hour ago.
Must say the Space grey looks amazing close up in person, I didn't like the all black of the slate but this looks awesome. Gone from silver to this and I'm well chuffed with my choice in the end. Immaculate out of the box as well, as it should be!

I got there by 7.30 and the queue was round the corner of longchamp store no golds by the time they got to me.
