My Gold 16gb has arrived now. I did have a slight heart attack there as only 1 of the 2 I ordered (of the same model, gold 16gb) have arrived. The packing document shows I ordered 2 (and I only signed for 1!). However I double checked the Apple site and I do have 2 separate tracking codes, 1 showing delivery for tomorrow, the other as delivered today.

So if you are expecting 2 in your order, and only receive 1 (bizarrely), don't panic lol!

You want to watch out for that.

Back when I ordered my 4S, because of how hammered the online store was, my order ended up going through twice. I didn't cancel the second order as a friend agreed they would buy it from me.

When the UPS delivery driver arrived, he only had one single phone shaped box. I then said that I should have two packages, he didn't think that was the case. He went back to his Van and returned with another phone. So quite easy to miss I guess and wouldn't have spotted it until he got back to the depot otherwise.

Westfield at Shepherds Bush, they seemed to have plenty of 32 and 64 in grey. Not sure about other colours.

The phone is the same price as Apple. You have to buy a 3 payg sim (£15) and get it unlocked for £15. But i've lined up on launch day, been every day this week at 7am to Regent St, Covent Garden and Westfield without luck so I'm happy to pay £30 extra.

Hi, how does this unlock process work? Will they do this for you in the shop or do you have to wait?

Also, does this unlocking make the phone identical to one you would buy in the Apple Store (i.e. able to use any SIM and switch as and when you want) or will it become relocked to the network of the first SIM you put into it..?

I would also be prepared to pay the extra £30 to avoid hanging around Apple Stores at dawn!

Thanks

Ordered a 32GB Silver on launch day...
Moments after the shipping slipped to October...
Now seen a gold in person and ordered that...
Will have probably cost myself a fortnight at least...

Luton phone finally here

You fill in an unlock request form on their website, they will review and pass it on to Apple. Eventually Apple will let them know it's done, and they'll pass on the message. Plug your iPhone into iTunes, pop in a random SIM card from a different network and away you go. iTunes says something along the lines of "Congratulations, your iPhone was successfully unlocked".

It will then be identical to one you get from the Apple store. Apple controls the carrier locks, not the carriers. It won't re-lock – it is now, in essence, factory unlocked.

At least, this is how it has worked for me previously with my iPhone 3G and iPhone 4.

Cheers for the heads up - I think Im on safe ground though, for the one that hasn't arrived today tracking says its at Donnington still, so it hasn't been out for delivery or anything today - scheduled delivery tomorrow. I would be a little more freaked out if both had said out for delivery today, and only 1 showed up.

I have ordered 2 of the same iPhone for launch day delivery from Apple before and they have both came in the same package however - still a bit strange!

Great - cheers. When you say 'eventually' - how long does the process generally take from your previous experience..?

So jealous here mine still stuck on preparing for dispatch.

I take it that means its in a warehouse in China somewhere does it?

Really happy for you all.. must be like Xmas :D

Unfortunately, mine is still sitting in Germany (and has been since the 29th !) with no movement at all ! :(

My iPhones are still stuck in Koeln for two days. Anyone with me? :(

Mine is the same. What does the latest tracking info on UPS say?

Mine is:

Exception
Koeln, Germany 01/10/2013 5:20 The package was left in a UPS facility / Delivery rescheduled

Which kind of had me worried, but glad I'm not the only one stuck in Germany.

same here. and to be honest..it might be in transit already, but sometimes it takes hours to change status. it depends on ups and how often they scan items.

Yeah it's just coming up to 24hrs now since all those waiting for Gold and Silvers suddenly changed to 'Preparing for Dispatch' and nothing has changed since then.

I'm wondering whether the China Holidays have now come into effect on the orders?

I think it's extremely unlikely that one of (if not the) biggest electronic factories in the world will be shutting down completely for a holiday. I'd be very surprised if they're not working 24/7/365.

My 16gb Gold arrived just before lunch. It is actually for my wife, and we went into a 3 store to get a nano SIM for it.

I said to the guy there that I had got a new 5S for my wife, and when he saw it was gold he said "how much did you pay for that?" He obviously assumed that I had got one off ebay or somewhere to impress the missus.

I think he was quite disappointed when I said that I'd just paid normal price from Apple for it.

Well, preparing for dispatch means the factory has made the iPhones, and is now waiting to hand them over to UPS. Someone did post much earlier in the thread a UPS schedule showing that they'd be closed for the holidays in China, so maybe that's the problem.

Maybe, but the holidays would have been around the same time last year and I don't remember any talk of shipping delays around the 5 launch due to the holidays. Wasn't following it so closely last year though as I skipped the 5, so I might have missed it.

Yeah, my point was more that given its been pretty much 24hrs, the people who are getting their phones now didn't have as long a wait from the 'Preparing to Dispatch' to 'Dispatched' stage.

I fully agree that production will continue because Apple has launched a new product and will have the money behind them to keep it going through a holiday period.

As Be3G says, its the Courier stage aspect that could now be the hold up. UPS are said to be closed during the holiday, so its only going to be whether Apple has a different arrangement as a big contract customer to say otherwise. Even then, if parts of their network are closed, it does mean its going to slow things down.

Obviously if they don't ship until the holiday is over, that still puts things within the original delivery window that Apple forecast. If they had gone yesterday/today we would have been more likely to receive them by the end of this week.
