Well, preparing for dispatch means the factory has made the iPhones, and is now waiting to hand them over to UPS. Someone did post much earlier in the thread a UPS schedule showing that they'd be closed for the holidays in China, so maybe that's the problem.

Probably is , as UPS China is closed today, tomorrow and Thursday, so stock still in China might not move much until Friday in China.

UPS services will be available during the upcoming holidays from Oct 1-7, 2013. However, please take note of temporary changes in our operating schedule as follows:

29-Sep Sunday Normal
30-Sep Monday Normal
1-Oct Tuesday Closed for Holiday
2-Oct WednesdayClosed for Holiday
3-Oct. Thursday Closed for Holiday

4-Oct Friday Normal*
5-Oct Saturday Normal*
6-Oct Sunday Closed for Holiday
7-Oct. Monday Normal*
8-Oct Tuesday Normal

*Please contact at our toll-free customer hotline 800 820 8388 (400 820 8388 for mobile phone users) or your local UPS account manager for more information.

That's amazing and congratulations on receiving your order ;). Mine was with yours all the way up to Cologne and then something happened that made mine check back into the airport while yours was on the way to Luton. Mine is still, I think, in Germany with two countries to hop to before it arrives.

I wonder what the difference was. Maybe they have many consignments travelling to different onward distribution hubs, yours was in time for "The Luton flight" and maybe mine will be headed to the West Midlands on the next flight. It's interesting to speculate though and I suppose we'll never know.

Maybe, but the holidays would have been around the same time last year and I don't remember any talk of shipping delays around the 5 launch due to the holidays. Wasn't following it so closely last year though as I skipped the 5, so I might have missed it.

Perhaps the Chinese National Day holiday from October 1st just wasn't so noticeable with the iPhone 5 launch though.

Although the launch date is pretty much the same, there were pre-orders and clearly a greater supply of initial stock.

Delivered. Now time for the unboxing ceremony.

My iMac "missed" the lorry going from Germany to the UK last december when everyone else's was delivered that day.

anyone who got ''preparing for dispatch'' yesterday got a shipping notice? Or managed to track it on UPS (track by reference)?

thanks

Maybe like small deliveries the kind we'd have for our phones are closed, but I can't imagine the entire company shutting down.

Mine is still processing.

Crazy to think I ordered on the 21st at midnight after being unsuccessful trying to buy one in the Apple shop on launch day.

You do realise its one of the more important holiday periods in China, probably the most important in the eyes of the government?

Congrats on delivery :) Interesting that yours was missed.. for a UK destination also. Maybe they simply fill up the vehicles and have more stuff to ship than available space to spare?

In theory there are several million people ahead of you, remember. I can't even bring myself to place an order online – I'll get it quicker just visiting various Apple stores every day for 3 weeks!

Edit: Correction, 9 million was 5c and 5s. But several million ;)

I don't think the bank holiday will have a big impact, I suppose it affects more the offices and customer services. I might be wrong, but I guess Apple are quite aware of the Chinese holidays and made sure things run ok during that time.

Maybe our have actually been shipped but it just hasn't updated yet. I mean almost 24 hours preparing for dispatch seems a little OTT, unless apple have now ran out of cardboard boxes. Haha

Yesterday I checked the time in china when it had updated to preparing for dispatch and it was like 2am in the morning over there, which seems an unusual time.

How do you figure that? UPS China have stated they are closed from the 1st to the 3rd. Even if nothing moves for the next 3 days the stock will still arrive inside the original delivery estimate Apple gave (so perhaps Apple factored in the close down period).

Thank you! Someone who agrees with me. I really can't see the whole of UPS shutting down. I mean China's massive! Think how far behind they'd be with flights etc. if they shut down for 3 days. It just doesn't happen.

Mine is still stuck in Germany, and has been for a while now.

Still says it will be delivered tomorrow, which I hope is true because I've booked a day off work.

It does, as a direct comparison, all operations in the UK close down 25-26 December every year where nothing moves. Limited operations for the rest of the Christmas week and we all survive.

It is entirely possible for a 3 day close down when the entire country is closing down.

If UPS still have planes flying from China, then they must still be picking up from Apple and maybe other places. I haven't looked to see if they do have flights, has anyone?

The online ones all were all sold out by 7:50am on the 20th.

There wasn't any stock of online ones to sell out, pretty much everyone here who has posted details has shown that their phone was made within the last week i.e. after it was ordered. If they had a massive load of them in a warehouse for online sales they would have shipped them straight away.

Yeah that was me that posted that, must have been about a thousand posts ago; this thread is long!

I see d123 has reposted it above and I have now come across this page which says they will continue to pick up if requested. I expect Apple will have requested this but you never know. Interesting this page only shows 1st October as a holiday.

I was just going to edit and add that to my previous post. The only chance of movement is if Apple has paid a premium to keep the service running through the holiday. I just find it unlikely when they can keep to their original dates with the close down and not have additional expenditure.

I suppose this waiting can only hope Apple decided to pay a premium.

just overheard a converstation at my work, that the next shipping from hong kong goes out on friday (4th) by ups and gets here on monday (7th)
so, there you go...that would be right on apples schedule.
i so wished that our phones wouldve arrived by the end of the week :(

Maybe one of the people waiting should give them a call and ask :p.

That makes sense considering the UPS holiday schedule.
