Here's what happened:

Bought iPhone from Apple Online Store: dead pixel. Told that I would get a 'new' replacement (i.e. new phone but no box, etc.). I didn't want this, I wanted a whole new phone. Therefore: went to Apple RETAIL store and purchased (at my own expense because Apple don't provide a quick link to after sales support - not AppleCare) a NEW 64GB space gray iPhone 5s. I had to pay more as they only had 64GB in stock. Okay fine. This one has a dead pixel too. It's utterly ridiculous!

Does any one have a number for Apple Store support?

----------

Apple's quality control really seems to have gone to ****! I have had my iPhone 4S replaced a few times for various issues and the screen has always been immaculate.

Okay, sure it is a 'tiny' pixel, but for £600-£750, it should be PERFECT.

----------

How did you get that replacement? That's exactly what I need!

----------

I've been using that number, but which option do I select?

Here's my timeline of events as posted a few days ago. It has been a rather convoluted process.

Oh that's not good. It wasn't that simple for me either though everyone I spoke to was clearly trying to help.

First I went to the apple support website and initiated a chat. She told me that she wouldn't be able to deal with the issue directly so would arrange for the senior advisor team to call.

They called while I was still in the chat but I wasn't put through to the senior advisor team. I presume the lady I spoke to there was a regular AppleCare advisor. She said that I would need to speak to aftersales and was about to put me through when she noticed the notes from the chat.

So instead she put me through to this guy in the senior advisor team(Ireland). He told me he was going to take ownership of the case until its resolution but then he put me through to aftersales. So that step was a bit of a waste of time but I do have his phone number and he said to call if I have any issues.

So then I spoke to an American lady (but who's to say she's not based in Ireland) who set up the replacement. She said the courier would call to arrange pickup within 48 hours and then once the phone was received they would send the new one out within 3-5 days. This person works in apple distribution international according to her email sig, not sure if that gives a clue as to where she's based.

I contacted aftersales directly today to ask if I can keep the old phone until I receive the replacement and was told yes and that I should arrange the return of the defective unit once I receive new one.

When I called I got through to a voice recognition system. Try saying aftersales or customer service or "i want to speak about my order". It then asks for the order number. It then gives a stream of information such as when ordered/delivery info. It then asks if you need anything else to which I said "let me speak to someone". Hope you can get it working. If you stay silent it will probably put you through to a real person who can direct your call.

Who told you that you would get a replacement phone but no box? AppleCare?

My poor iphone is all alone in Hong Kong!! It better get on a flight soon otherwise I'm heading straight for Heathrow.

By my calculation, phones have now been sat there for nearly 24 hours. Not an ideal situation.

If you could get into an Apple store why didn't you just make an appointment with a Genius and have it replaced by them? That's what I did with my 4 when it had a dodgy screen, they keep a stock for just that reason.

My iPhone is there to keep it company :D I think our phones might be waiting for the phones that have been dispatched today coming from Shenzhen. They've got to be put on a flight soon!

Not retail stock which is what arobertson wants.

I reckon you're right actually.

Why is it not ideal? I'm pretty sure UPS know what they're doing.

100% agree. Phones coming from Shenzhen surely must be there by now!?

My poor husband has had to put up with checking my Apple status at all hours of the night and now it has been replaced with the UPS tracking site! I can see it is going to be a long night.

"Not ideal" from a selfish point of view - I want my iPhone!! Thats all.

I have every confidence in UPS.

UPDATE: Arrival Scan in Chek Lap Kok

That's it then! Let's hope the 05:00 Dubai flight collects them all. :)

However, if your phone arrived at HK at 02:15 that means all our phones could have got the Anchorage flight and the earlier Dubai flight!

What's the difference? You go in, hand over the broken one, then you get a brand new phone, you keep all of your box and accessories etc and they hand you a brand new handset out of a white box.

Done and dusted with no waiting.

That would've been already updated on the UPS site wouldn't it?

Yes, but when you come to sell it, the serial number doesn't match the one on the box, which CAN (and often does) reduce the re-sale value, as there's no way to prove the handset isn't faulty.

Plus, I purchased one (now two actually, due to Apple's incompetence and difficult to find phone numbers) BRAND NEW, SEALED, iPhone 5S and had it delivered just last Monday. I don't want a 'new' iPhone, which isn't officially 'new'.

I got through to that, but they're closed. I'll try tomorrow. This means that I'm going to have to make another trip though as I assume I can't return a faulty RETAIL STORE order unless I go back to the store. At least I can take it to the nearer Apple Retail Store (nearest had no stock so had to go further), I assume?

AppleCare, who said they could send me a 'new' (i.e. just phone) in 3-5 days, or a 'new' phone overnight, but at a charge of £29 and by putting a hold of the cost of a new iPhone on my debit card. It was almost like it was my fault!

I couldn't find a way to talk to after-sales at that point so I went to the Apple Retail Store and had to pay more for a 64GB (had a 32GB before) in a different colour (okay colour doesn't really matter), which was an hour each way. AND, to finish it all off, it's faulty too.

Oh well done Apple, well done.

----------

Oh fantastic. They better take it back at any Apple Store.

I am confused you say store retail purchase then you say delivered??
either way you need to contact the point of purchase. if you want a brand new retail unit.

£29 for what? You should have just demanded a full refund instead.

They give you a receipt detailing the new phone so that would show what had happened.

I appreciate that you want what you want but there was a way of achieving it much quicker.

If they are not due for delivery for a couple of days yet UPS will hold them where they have the most storage capacity. Once sent out of HK they can be delivered to your door in 24-36 hours.
