Couldn't afford to go sim free this time so I took the plunge and I upgraded with Three. I placed an order with them on Sunday for 8th Oct. estimated delivery. I just got a text from them that my order has been dispatched for delivery tomorrow! Happy days :D

If you go to http://www.three.co.uk/unlock, that's the page.

You can unlock on contract after 60 days, but with a payg, you can unlock right away. If you've only just started your contract, you're probably best shoving a payg sim for a day or two and unlocking that way :) They've been very fast both times I've unlocked, so it shouldn't be a long term thing. Not sure if your contract will link to the IMEI number or something to prevent you unlocking once you've inserted your contract sim though...you'd have to try it and see!

Mines coming from EE, if I got a three pay and go sim and rang three would they unlock it for a set price?

If it's already locked to EE, then no, but if it locks to the first sim inserted like the CPW phones, then as long as you put the 3 payg sim in first, they'll unlock it for £15.32. However, if you've bought it direct from EE, I imagine it'll be locked to them already.

I think your iPhone would be locked to EE.

I thought they'd be the same as CPW where they lock to the first sim inserted no? Can anybody confirm?

That's what I was thinking, I thought even though coming from EE it'd be similar to CPW where the first sim in it locks to

Don't know what I'm more angry about:
Not getting a 32gb silver even after waiting since 3am due to scalpers pushing, online orders getting merked in all countries but US, CPW getting stock to sell at a premium or O2 demo unit blocking the damn camera so you can't test the slow mo.

All in all the one redeeming factor is I'll be playing gta5 all this time and a 4s is still a pretty usable phone :) just need to stop reading this thread. Makes me far too impatient.

What helenamm92` said is probably the easiest way, best thing is that you don't even need to top up!

I'm tempted by the CPW 64GB phone but I don't need 64GB and I think the resale of the 64GB won't be much more than the 32GB in a year. And I hate dealing with CPW. And £709 for a phone is pushing it. I have a mental block paying £700 for a phone.

Whats wrong with CW? This is the first time I've dealt with them. Anything I should be aware of?

Right, I have also decided to abandon apple online order and decided to give the O2 refresh option a try. Ordered this morning and have a delivery time of between 12-4pm tomorrow!

Apparently it is no hassle to phone back once unit is received and pay off the phone payment contract. Can then cancel the airtime plan at no cost. Still locked to O2 until they decide to allow unlocks but I will stick with my current giffgaff sim which will work just fine! If all goes well I will have a 32gb space grey for £10 cheaper than apple direct although it's not about the money but timescales obviously!

Respect to hippyharry for bringing this option up on page 59!

Ach not really. Bought and iPhone 4S last year for my wife and wasn't told it would lock to first sim. I bought it in store. Was a bit hacked off about that. And returning things can be a bit of a hassle.

Also for those interested I phoned the Liverpool Apple store this afternoon and they said they didn't have any 5S's in stock and didn't know when they would be getting more in.

I don't know, but with EE running three brands at the moment - Tmobile, Orange and EE, it might work if you put the sim in first. It depends on if those three networks are locked differently or not. If they are, then I doubt that they would go the trouble of locking the phone to your specific network first.

Well thanks for making me feel a bit better about the London shortage. I used to live just round the corner from there - so close I didn't even have to cross a road. It would suck for me if they had loads of stock and I'm stuck in London!

Do miss Liverpool though...

Thing is i have a nano sim-only sim and no PAYG sim. My iPhone 5 is also due to be sold/collected tomorrow morning. So i'm thinking of doing the CPW thing (i'd rather not but needs must...i don't want to be phoneless) wondering if i should just use my pay monthly sim once and for all. I've payed my first bill and i just started the contract in Aug. But waiting 30days...i'd rather not.

No, no, I meant to say they've got loads in stock and are giving away free leather cases with each order! They take you in and give you a glass of Champagne while they get your order. #

Why not order a payg sim online for free? You don't have to top up. Though, if you nip into a store to get one, they're £1.99 and for £10 you'll get 500mb, 100 mins and 3000 texts, more than enough to tide you over until the unlocking process is done. You'll have to wait for one from cpw now anyway (from previous posts, it looks as though all the in-store ones are tied to contracts), so waiting for a payg sim shouldn't be a problem.

No, it will be locked to EE, so T-Mobile, Orange or EE 4G SIM will work, and it will be locked to all others.

No other network other than the supplier will be able to process the unlock. The CPW ones are unique in the first sim locks scenario.

Don't taunt me! If they really did have loads of stock come Saturday morning I'd be racing up the M6 on my scooter.

Got my carphone warehouse 5S Unlocked by Three in less than 24 hours!

Me too, got my 5s from CPW, stuck my 3 sim in, filled out the online form this afternoon and it was unlocked by this evening.

Just been out to get a T-Mobile sim to finish the unlock process :D

Cost me the 15 quid something to get it done, but was really easy to do! Shame I want to stay with 3, but at least it's unlocked now

How and why are you getting an unlocked phone, putting in one sim, filling in a form then putting another sim in?

EE's website now has ALL colours and sizes in stock, including the elusive Gold.

Thought i should share, confirmed it with a chat agent.

Might just go that route.
