Iv worked for P4U, and no one in the store knew what they were getting on the next delivery until they got it! It could be a similar matter with Apple! Although, I can see why they would not want to tell people especially around these times.

Iv also worked at O2, and they could check what stock they were getting delivered around about 24 hours in advance. We used to happily tell customer when they could expect stock for a particular product.

If stores knew, the workers could tip of friends when the next shipment is coming and scalp away.

Fair play to him, he made me go check my order status .......again!

Sparkyms do you hear if the Southampton store had any stock today.... I'm just down the road in fareham and bore of waiting for the online delivery ..

Not sure, no-one mentioned it and was at work and had stuff to do after - although seemed like most did today! I'm heading in tomorrow (albeit around 3.30) as I live close to West Quay.. I'll share if they have stock.

As much as I have been 'you'll get it when you get it' about it, if they have stock I may as well get one.

Many thanks, in all likely hood I'll not be able to gather until Saturday morning but you never no, I might get a chances to leave work early.

I'm not lying. Dispatched was in bold, it said I would get deliver info after 24 hours. Then someone suggested checking the American store for tracking info, so I did and then it went back to processing for both sites!

/nightmare

Lol, I won't accuse you of lying, but what I will accuse you of is not being savvy enough to know you can't trot out statements like that without screen-grabbing evidence to pacify the doubters on here! :p

After a hectic day at work, catching up after this mornings action at Apple Covent Garden, my shiny new 5S is now up & running. :D

With that in mind I've just cancelled my online order. I was one of the first 7-10 business days, so hopefully me cancelling will bring one lucky person further up the queue.

You'll have to pay an unlock price regardless of the network. CPW phones will lock to the network of the first UK sim card inserted. The reason 3 is cropping up so much is that at the moment, they're the only network that will unlock your phone right away (though I believe there's also something you can do with an O2 refresh contract). If you're planning on getting a cpw phone, stick a 3 payg sim in it and get it unlocked that way. It costs £15.32 to unlock and for the users on her who've reported back (myself included) it took less than 24 hours :) Make sure it's payg though, if you use a contract sim, you have to wait 60 days before you can unlock.

Quick question. CPW rep told me that you need to request an unlock for every change of network provider, so swapping multiple network sims won't work. Can anyone out verify this. Essentially he states it locks again once a new SIM is inserted. Thanks in advance.

Are you asked if you're sure you want to cancel the order when you click the "cancel items" button? I'm worried I'll click that button by mistake because of how often I'm checking :p

You've nothing to worry about - it does indeed ask if you're sure you want to cancel. If you click on confirm and it takes you to the confirmation screen I posted. :)

Not true. I have a CPW 4S bought for my wife and first sim was VF. Got it unlocked by VF and just tried a Three sim and it works fine and it's now back to VF again.

Definitely incorrect, once Apple action the unlock it's unlocked for all networks forever.

Tell me more. Im planning to go and check out Covent Garden on Friday morning. So you went there this morning... what time? How much stock?

Can you cancel part orders?

Yes. I had an order for a 5s and case. After picking up a 5s at Covent Garden this morning, I cancelled the 5s. I couldn't cancel the case as it'd already been dispatched (and looks like it will be coming tomorrow). Doesn't appear that I'll be charged delivery on the case (as I think would be usual for an order of that value).

Thanks for the quick response. I did wonder but the rep was the type of guy that is never wrong. He informed me that all Apple Store iPhones also lock to their initial SIM too which I know to be untrue but I didn't have an argument in me today!! Cheers.

Did you have to call Apple, or can you cancel it within your account?

A nice discovery of a handy (if risky!) free delivery loophole.

What was the story at Cov Garden. How long did you queue and how early did you get there?

I'm looking to get a white 64gb, even though a lot of places seem to have greys.

Before, the higher capacities were the ones that was easier to find since they were the most expensive ones to buy.

The scalpers on the other hand seem to buy EVERYTHING.

This is sadly Tim Cooks doing. I don't expect the coming years to be any better!

I had a long chat with a manager at the store in Covent Garden. My basic take-away from it is that they haven't managed the release well and they (knowing full well up front) never had anywhere near enough stock. He informed me "they ran the in-store reservations for a while in the past and people would complain if they got into the store and the item was out of stock". Is that surprising? You mean to say you guaranteed someone an item online and when they travelled into central London to get it - it wasn't there?? This stuff is seriously basic stock management, it shouldn't be beyond one of the flagship stores in London to manage their stock for online reservations. Hell, this is the company that created the iPod and changed the entire smartphone landscape but they can't hold an item for someone to come and pick up later

The worst part about giving Apple any feedback on running this is that they just do not care. Their level of arrogance in the retail environment is absolutely astronomical. To put this into perspective I have:

- Ordered 2 minutes after release time online at midnight
- Queued for several hours outside the store on release day
- Called every day spending around 2 hours total on hold
- Made an extra visit to the store (after being told phones were in stock) only for them to be gone 30 minutes later when I arrived.

These are the things I think are well within Apple's power to do:
- Online reservation system (See above, not happening in the UK)
- Discretionary reservation over the phone (Not happening, first come first serve only)
- Discretionary notifications of stock arriving in store
- Disclosing planned stock arrivals

Today I quite literally had this experience:
Store Salesperson - You should place an order online to secure a phone.
Online rep - Try a retail store they are likely to have more stock.

Simply put - they can't help us in any way whatsoever.

All of this aside - I don't even really need a phone that badly. All of the chasing is actually just a result me now wanting to see just how deep this problem extends. I had originally hoped that this (continuing) experience could be replayed to someone who might actually be interested in the story and they could potentially use this feedback to make the process better.

Tim Cook is supposed to be the supply chain king and this whole thing seems a bit... amateur.
