We did a lot of sums last year, when the 5S came out.

The best value, by a long way, was to buy your iPhone full price from apple (regardless of spec) and then get a sim-only contract... with giff gaff or tesco, if their package suits you, or a sim-only with ee, vodka or O2, if they suit you better.

So far, I think this year is the same. When you can get a 4GB 4G contract on a sim-only for a tenner, on a monthly contract, then it's a no-brainier to get the phone outright from apple, and keep your options open for next year, as well as saving a load of cash.

I agree the pre-order process was less then ideal. This morning I was refreshing the store app on my iPad and iPhone as well as Safari on both and Chrome on my iPad. I thought the app would be the best option but as it turns out it wasn't. I kept refreshing up until about 08:20 and then I really had to leave for work. During this I was getting access denied errors on the site as well. Even this forum wasn't working.

On the way to to the train station I had to resort to trying it using the store app and Safari on my iPhone 5S which was really difficult even though I was getting a lift in a car. I finally managed to get through to the store page after another five minutes or so using Safari.

When I first tried to go through the process I typed my password wrong and couldn't log in. I tired again managing to get it right and then it asked me for address verification and my bank card security number even though I had express checkout setup. Then when I went to proceed with payment there was some kind of error and my order wasn't authorised. I tried a second time hoping it would go through and luckily it did. All this on the iPhone 5S' small screen and me needing glasses to read anyway. Luckily I got the 19th as estimated delivery date which I was relieved about.

All in all not a good experience at all.

The app didn't seem as reliable as when the iPhone 5 came out, can't even access orders atm on it either.

I just thought i'd take a look at O2's tarrifs especially as everyone on here seems to think the are the best and I'm really confused.

They have the device price of an Iphone 6 64GB as £729.99 when according to the Apple store its £619.99. I thought maybe they were charging interest but they claim interest is 0%.

This is their £48 a month tariff for 2GB Unlimited

24 months Duration of agreement
£729.99 Device cash price
£9.99 Upfront cost
£720.00 Credit amount
0% Interest rate (fixed)
0% Representative APR
£30 Monthly device payment
£729.99 Device amount payable
£18 Monthly airtime payment
The Device Plan is offered on a 24 month consumer credit agreement. Subject to status, credit check, and payment by Direct Debit.

Am I missing something here?
I think the point people were making was that 02 seem to have either the lowest or one of the lowest tariffs.

For me when I compare the 6's 64gb vs last years 5s 32gb's tariff the iPhone 6 64gb is only £30 a month more and that is the upfront fee, the monthly fee is the same. I was doing some tariff research on the 5s before the 6 came out to get an understanding of whereabouts the tariffs will end up and at the time I think 02 were the lowest priced.

Of course buying a sim free iPhone from Apple and going pay as you go is cheaper over all, but that not taking into account the high initial cost and the fact that most of the time supplies are limited or there is more hurdles to overcome in order to get one.

Paying all in one go works for some people, contracts work for others. As far as contracts go 02 have some of the most competitive despite them obviously making a bit of a profit off them, but if you want to look at it that way then the other networks are making even more of a profit.

Orderwd before that and not at that stage yet lol

lol, which did you order? I got the 64gb Space Grey 6.

Decided on my choice of case. Gone for the midnight blue Apple leather case. Looks really good with the white.

Delivery estimate 18th-22nd sept. Hope it gets here for the 19th ha.

Probably going to get that too on the Space Grey, it looks really classy and unlikely to get dirty

Ahh I'm not the only one to stop that nice combo then :p

I love my product red iPad case with the White - really over the top red looks good.

However, I'm with you - the midnight blue looks amazing on the White.

Totally agree with you, I personally got a £15/pm Three SIM (for unlimited 4G data) with my 5S last year, the resale value is amazing really, essentially cost me £290 for the year (handset).

Its a shame that the networks basically see those people who can't afford to stump up the handset cost in full off.

I was just very surprised as I don't recall it being like that with my 5. I want to get away from always upgrading just as the new model comes out so I want to wait a few months. Nothing is wrong with my 5 except battery life so I've splashed out on a mophie battery case. I carry my ipad retina mini with me everywhere anyway so with a decent data allowance and battery life I can tether to that. I will get the 6 but sometime next year.

Hi all I see there are lots of lucky people that have gone to preparing to despatch! Jealous! ;) I got my order in through Safari on Mac at 8:30 and missed launch day! Ordered a 64gb Plus in sg. Anyone know what time the last of the 64gb sg plus launch stock dried up? Surprised I missed out on 19th :( any previous experience of 7-10 days turning up sooner? Or is that wishful thinking? haha

I got my confirmation email around 0835, and it came through pretty fast. I must have ordered very close to you. I got the exact same for delivery on launch day :)

Ya same here, my confirmation arrived @ 8:37am and I will be getting mine on Friday...

Same app or Internet won't load...

It's under heavy load from all the pre-orders and visitors on the site right now, give it sometime :)

I honestly think anyone who went with the purchase through carrier option this year has been mugged off......pricing is ridiculously high......iPhone 5 64 gig cost me £699 and 2 years later iphone 6 + 64 gig cost me £699.....so how come my wife was told she would have to pay up to £20 more a month for the new phone?? Absolutely ridiculous......you could save over £400 over the 2 years by buying the phone outright!!!

I've just done the comparison with Vodafone (only provide I can use as the others don't provide signal where I live) and actually a contract for a 6+ space grey 128Gb works out £200 cheaper over two years for me opposed to buying it sim free and using the same plan but sim only...Not sure how you think that we are all being mugged off ;) It's cheaper for me to go contract, and I did just that...

I'm happy I'm getting it yet I'm disappointed that it was so close to nearly missing the 19th, I was slightly stressed and annoyed as, because like everyone else, I was up and ready to order at 8AM and be done with it. The fact that I could have missed the launch day has tainted the feeling somewhat. Can't say I'm going to look forward to preorder days again :/

Ya I know that feeling, in fact i stayed up all night assuming the launch will be ready by 8:01am but hitting the refresh button so many times didn't help I guess, although I never managed to get into the site through my PC or iPhone, even the App didn't work, however not sure if its luck, I used safari on my iPad and made my order, I was like "ABOUT TIME! THANK YOU!" then fell a sleep LOL

SIM card query

Hi guys
Just a quick one. I'm upgrading from my iPhone 5 with O2 to the 6 also with O2. With the 5 I obviously didn't have access to 4G but I will with the 6, and I've heard that I will need to get a new sim that is 4G enabled, is this right? And do I just go into an O2 store and ask for one?
