My contract is up next month and looking at the cost of new IP6 plans, I'm thinking I'll buy directly from Apple.

The only thing making me doubt this course of action is Apple Care+. How good is it? At the moment I ring EE and they'll have sorted me out with a new handset within a day. There's not much hassle involved and no paperwork or anything like that. It couldn't be simpler — though it's much more expensive AppleCare+ over the contract's length.

What is the AppleCare+ process like? Would they spend hours, days (weeks) trying a fix a potentially broken handset in store or do they swap it out?

Essentially what's the general hassle factor and quality of service like?

Doing exactly the same as you except I changed from £10 to £15 plan which includes ultd data + 4GB tethering. I don't think 2GB would be enough when I am planning to tether as well.
I may do this depending on signal strength at my Uni.

Just checked mine.
iPhone 6 128GB
Preparing for dispatch.

However, my 6+ 128GB is still processing. ETA 30th Sept :(

Will probably keep the 6+ though, but too late to cancel the 6 order so will leave it sealed and return it.

Open it up mate, the iPhone 6 and play with it. Apple will take it back within 14 days! :)

Had an issue with Barclays thinking the transaction was suspicious but that all went through and I can confirm I am preparing for dispatch!! iPhone 6 Plus 16GB Gold - ordered at 8:38AM.

Apple retail store are reservations only right? So there's still a likely possibility that someone has just reserved for the heck of it and I'll be able to walk in and get one?

My post from another thread:

Thinking about it now, if I was honest and if I would have waited till after the keynote to sell my 5S I don't think I would have got either the 6 or 6+.

Yes I'm pleased to have a bigger screen and small performance bump but would have been satisfied with keeping my 5S knowing what I know now.

I think when the 6S is eventually released I won't be in too much of a rush to get it. Right now i'd like to keep my 6 at least until the 7 is out.

It's not just reservations, you can still go down and queue in the early hours, they should have a small amount of free stock through the morning but I wouldn't rely on that, I doubt many who reserve won't arrive.

Just realised I have a micro sim in my iPhone 5, will it be the same for the 6 or will I need a new sim card from O2?

It's a Nano SIM in the iPhone 5, same size as the 6 & 6+, so you shouldn't need a new SIM unless you are changing provider or taking a new contract (and maybe porting a number).

Most of the time they just swap it on the spot. They have started doing in house repairs for smaller issues (like replacing batteries or power buttons), but they seem to be pretty lenient. Tell them you're in a rush, can't be without the phone for more than a few minutes, or whatever if they don't initially offer a swap.

Just managed to reserve a 64 GB iPhone 6 Space Grey at the Bromley Store, so no need to wait till the 29th :)

The Bromley store still has some 64GB and 128GB available for those wanting to cancel their later order.

The networks have always been a rip off and even more so this time round.

For an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB EE charges £149 upfront then £63.99 for 24 months which over the total life of the contract will set you back around £1,686. Add in my wife's iPhone 6 64GB EE charges for example £149 upfront then £45.99 for 24 months which will be around £1,253. That is a total spend of £2,939.

So from the Apple Store I have just purchased an iPhone 6 Plus 128GB and iPhone 6 64GB outright SIM free for around £1,400. With a SIM only contract from 3 Mobile for £15 each over 12 months, which I will probably extend to 24 then that is £30 * 24 = £720. So total spend is £2,120 which is a saving of £819. Those 3 Mobile SIM only deals give me all you can eat data, 200 mins (300 mins 3 to 3), unlimited texts, 4GB tethering, free 0800 calls and Feels At Home where in places like Italy, Australia and USA you can use your phone as you would at home and not worry about roaming costs (25GB limit on data abroad ;) ). If you need more minutes, get the 4GB data and then you get 600 mins. Oh, and 3 also offers 4G for free. Plus I have been a 3 customer for the past 3 years and their network is the fastest and most reliable. Bit of an advert for 3, but great network.

If you cannot afford to buy a phone outright then your old phone should make up some of the difference (about £180 for an iPhone 5 in good condition on phone trade in websites) and Apple also have interest free credit available if you need to make up the difference.

Not only that if I did decide I wanted a change after 12 months to the S line or to Android then I could, or even after a few months I would probably get most of my money back for the iPhone.

I've been SIM-Only for the last 5 years through the iPhone 3GS/4S/5 (skipped the 4 & 5S) and it's worked well until 4G launched. Now I know 3 say they do unlimited 4G right now, but experience with a 4G dongle and my parents iPhone 5C's tells me that Three's version of 4G is variable. I had a deal for 3 devices from EE for the last year... 2 iPhone 5's with unlimited minutes/texts and 1GB data for 2x £13/month and a 4G Mifi with 5GB data for £13/month. So all in all a reasonable 7GB combined for pretty much £40/month. Those deals have come to an end and EE don't seem so keen on sim-only deals anymore so I looked at the shared plan as a way to get 2 phones and a MiFi SIM but was only able to get the shared plan with the lead phone being a contract phone. There was only one contract phone I was going to sign up to and though I was actually happy with the performance of my iPhone 5's, I managed to sell them both for just under £400 to cover a chunk of the £579 up front costs of my new plan.

The deal I plan to sign up for is as follows is the EE Extra 50GB Shared plan. 50 GB Shared Data, unlimited minutes/texts for each phone.

1 x iPhone 6+ 128GB : £150 up front & £76/month x 24 = £1974
2 x iPhone 6+ 64GB : £429 up front & £28/month x 24 = £1101
1 x data Sim : £5 x 24 = £120

Total cost is £3195, but remembering that the phones cost £789 & £699 respectively, it's the 50GB of EE 4G goodness (excluding unlimited calls/texts) that is costing me ~£1.42/GB which is pretty good. For reference when I first got my 5GB EE Mifi, I used all of my data allowance in less than 5 days streaming netflix/sky go on the way too and from work, so yes I will use all 50GB :)

Now I know that 3's unlimited data plans would be something like £800 cheaper, but the quality of the EE 4G network and not having to tether and being able to add up to 2 more devices to the plan are worth the premium to me. If EE offered this kind of plan without needing to have a contract handset, I'd have taken it already. Also I'm sure Three's 4G network will get better over time too, so in 2 years time maybe it will be SIM only for me again.

On the three upgrade confirmation page, it says I will be given a new nano sim. Confused, will the same number on there etc?

Had a 5 previously, do I just use my old nano sim? eek.

Ah cool thanks for all the replies. Thought I had micro for some reason. I'll just swap it out when it arrives then.

Still not sure whether to stick with o2 on sim-only or move on. GiffGaff do unlimited data for £12 a month.

GiffGaff are planning on limiting their data on the cheaper plans soon I think. You have to be on an £18 a month goodybag for unlimited data.

Why would anyone want to use O2 anyway? Their network is proven to be unreliable and has had lots of major lengthy outages with feeble explanations, especially last year. I know lots of people who have lost lots of business because of outages lasting 12 hours or more. This is completely unacceptable.

O2 have been more reliable than TMobile that I was on before and I get Priority moments that I use every week for money off eating out, cinema and coffee. I think in 2 years the service has gone down twice and only for a few hours at a time. It wasn't a massive inconvenience. I thought about going with EE but my friends warned me off as they have had bill increase after bill increase and the online service is way off O2's.

On the whole I've had a good experience with them. I upgraded to an iPhone 6 64GB silver yesterday for £33 a month and the nearest any other provider could get was £38 and paying more for the phone.
